  1. Good Morn, Noon, Eve, one and all! This nerd has a goal to obtain! To become healthier person for my family and for myself. I want to be able to play with my kids and feel good marrying the king I love; for the latter, I only have 6 months to achieve this goal. I am an extremely self-conscious Queen with many mental and physical wounds to overcome. A mother of three; to two handsome princes, and a darling princess. I weigh in around 180lbs at 5'2" tall. My goal is to lose 50lbs to get back to my pre-baby weight of 130lbs. In order to do this, I have taken upon myself the Diet of Keto as well as plan to combine this with cardio and compound exercises. I don't have access to the Arms and Armory so I will have to train at home. Any and all advise is welcome. Thank you.
  2. For the next 6 Week Challenge, I've decided to attempt a big boss battle : push-ups. Thought I would try out the Assassins Guild for this challenge, so hello! The History: push-ups have ALWAYS been a huge physical barrier for me, even as a kid. The Strategy: First - I will be starting off by following Steve's blog suggestion for working towards push-ups http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/02/15/proper-push-up/ Starting off with wall push-ups, and once I can do 4 reps of 20, move on to elevated push-ups, then on to the push- up proper. I will be doing these every other day for the next 6 weeks, with the end goal of at the very least having moved to elevated push-ups. Second: I will be working on core and arm strength on the same days as the push-ups. For core, I will do planks and yoga poses that target abs (boat, for one). For the arms, I will work with the pull-up bar and yoga poses for arms (chaturanga, etc). Third: relax - this is a huge boss battle for me and it will take a lot of mental discipline, so I know it would be wise not to drain my daily will power mana with other challenges.
  3. I am doing these items this challenge: foot and hip PT, guitar and piano practice, cooking and eating mindfully, household chores, bedtime routing, NF and D&D. I am experimenting with two hour blocks of time during the day. I have 6 of them that I can assign to anything I want of the above items, or a few others like drawing and socializing. Quest: Take Control of My Days Implement a strategy for daily tasks and follow through with it for 6 weeks. Get at least 80% on each goal for full points. Goal 1 TRACK AND ANALYZE PT exercises - will analyze once per week. PT exercises are for everyday. [plank, cobra, hands and knees hip raise, elevated bridges, side prone hip star, side prone bend, glutes and straight leg squeeze, DB squats, toe curls, arch raise, side toe pull, ankle band pull] Award: +2 STR +2 DEX Goal 2 -- EDIT -- Will now be emotions and beliefs without sugar junk food and when I eat. LIST EMOTIONS AND BELIEFS about myself when I eat. Using mindfulness as a tool to be calm and curious about my feelings rather than harsh and critical. Will post twice a week on how it's going. Award: +1 CHR +2 WIS Goal 3 TRACK FOOD BUDGET - I'm spending too much on food. Meal planning will help as well as stock up cooking. I haven't done either very much so it will be interesting to see how they work for me. Award: +2 WIS Goal 4 STAY IN THE MOMENT! Use alarms to signal beginning of each 2 hour block. This will help me stay active with things and not have to worry about how much time has gone by or is left. I did this with visiting and it really made a difference in my enjoyment level. Award: +5 CHR Side Quest Goal: MEMORIZE CHORDS on the guitar. Award: +1 Bard Skills!
  4. As a kickboxer through high school, I'm used to injuries getting shaken off. Strapped and pushed through at worst. So I'm at a loss as to what I'm meant to do when I can't shake a pain. I've been having tendonitis/plantar fascitis in my left foot and chronic lower back pain for about 6 months now and rest is not making it any better. The foot just threw in the towel one day while I was walking around - hadn't been jogging or anything, had just moved interstate and was on a hiatus from working out. I pulled something in my back lifting one day - jumped in too deep too quick - and it has been recurring more frequently until it became a daily nuisance. After having to quit my waitressing job (I could barely hobble home after a double shift) I need to get back into a functioning state to start my course, which is 90% physical. I'm at a complete loss. Help me Nerd Fitness! Any similar stories? Is this something I should work through and will go away with more strengthening exercises? The doctor just sent me trotting off for x-rays, but I think the pain would be far worse if it was bone related. Right now both conditions seem to compound when under pressure.
