I reached full circle again, diet wise:

First I restrict. I've tried intermittend fasting, kcal counting, restricting food groups, cutting out sugar, doing shakes. You know, the diet stuff everyone tries.

Then I binge. I get hungry, tired and I just don't care anymore. I eat everything in sight, and it feels good. At that moment that is. Then my pants don't fit like they should, or I sneak a peek on the scale and scare myself.

Then I purge: I go on a really strict diet, and exercise every free moment that I've got. (I'm not talking about vomiting or something like that. I've never gone there luckily.)

And then I loosen up a little, and 'just' restrict.

And binge again....

You get the picture.

I've tried to break this circle a few times now with mindful eating. Making smart choices, and listen to what my body really wants. And the crazy thing is: if I do this really well, I loose weight without restricting anything. I still eat my favorite foods, just in moderation. And healthy foods dominate my diet.

Last challenge I restricted again, in the form of Intermittend fasting combined with kcal counting. And not surprisingly it ended in a binge, and that ended in thoughts about purging.

But I'm not going to purge this time. I'm not going to restrict again. I'm going to listen to my body. And treat it with the love it deserves. And that's going to be hard. So here are some tools that I will use to help me with this:

  1. Limit screen time during meals. I can eat maximal 3 meals with a screen (phone, laptop etc.) a week.
  2. Eat regular meals, stop when I'm full, not stuffed. And only eat snacks when I'm hungry.
  3. Pick the best available option at that moment. This doesn't have to be the perfect choice. Just the most healthy thing that will satisfy me in that moment.
  4. Move because I love it, not because I ate too much. I love, love, love dancing! And I'm feeling pretty good about the kettlebell workouts I've been trying. But I still got to listen to my body, before I'm going to do a workout and during. And take the time to recover after a workout.
  5. Find ways to deal with feelings. Like journaling or meditation. Or pick up my recorder again. I don't know yet.

To summarize: I'm going to treat my body with love, not hate.

Thanks!

I googled the book, and yes, I believe it preaches what I'm trying to do here.

If it didn't had the word 'god' in the title I might have bought it. Yes, I'm weird, I know.

Yesterday we went to the railroad museum with the boys. We had a great time. We learned a lot about trains, and there was cool stuf to do for het boys. A and SH loved an attraction called 'de vuurproef' (google translates it to 'the fire test', I don't know if that it's correct. It means the final test to see if something or someone is ready.) And they went there 3 times. In there you 'rode'  a train yourself. The seats moved in around, and on the screen you could see the train riding on the rails. And every time you thought everything would go wrong (collapsed bridge or something like that) we jumped through time and space and rode on. Needless to say I didn't enjoy it as I got carsick and had to keep my eyes closed the entire time >_< And J found it too scary. So A and SH went back there themselves while I watched J ride the kiddy train at least 10 times :D

As we needed to take the train to and from the museum I had to pay attention to what I ate, so I wouldn't get too sick in the train. That ment I crushed my goals :D

Today my mom came by like old times to play with the boys. We had a nice lunch together. And afterwards my mom agreed to babysit the boys while I went dancing and SH went bridging. The boys and my mom had a great time :D And I had a great time at dance class.

Goal wise it went okay. We had pancakes, which is always great ;)

Update after the first week:

My body is such a bore when it comes to eating. Apparently it wants just healthy foods and water. It's my mind that wants to eat ice cream and chips. Somewhere I already knew that, but it's good to pay attention again :D

I've been writing in my diary almost every night. And I really like it: just to empty my mind before going to sleep.

Spoiler

And I think it really fits with my current challenge. He talks about breaking bad habits and establishing new ones. So when you go get a snack out of habit, you do something to break the pattern. So every time I go to the cookie cabinet, instead I wash my face in the sink below it.

My face is now really clean, and I haven't eaten when I wasn't hungry today :D

My zumba teacher threw a bbq party last night for his students and a few of his colleagues. As an introvert I was coming up with a thousand reasons not to go. But I went anyway *proud*. And the best thing: I had a great time! And I connected with some of the students (we don't get a lot of chatting time during class). I had to go there by train, and since alcohol makes my motion sickness worse, I couldn't drink :( That made it more difficult to let go a little, but at the end of the night I was kind of sleep drunk and was able to let go :D

Terah! I thought I had already looked up your challenge, and I only now realized that I... hadn't. Gosh. Here now! :'D

To be honest, when you said during last challenge that you were going for 1200 calories and intermittent fasting, I was slightly worried, but didn't really know how to express myself without sounding patronizing. Do you mind if I do so from now on? ;)

You have a busy life with a ton or responsibilities, and eating more makes it sure that you have enough physical and mental energy to get through the day. Give yourself time to adjust - it took me two months to realize that I had eaten a huge breakfast every morning, and my body hadn't changed that much (only so that the constant bloating had gone away). You know that restriction doesn't work for you, so trust yourself. As your body gets enough food, you won't even think about food and eating all that much!

I really liked the video! Here's also an interesting one I found yesterday:

So, yup. Following! :)
