AKA - Wonder Woman Goes into Battle

Welcome to the third installment of this summer's Wonder Woman blockbuster challenge series!  There isn't much new here but I'm continuing with what works and tweaking the rest.  I have two primary goals - to prepare for this fall's HammerRace and to defeat the nasty scale.  Naturally, my focus is more on the former and less on the latter.  Hopefully taking care of one will take care of the other by default.  If that doesn't work I might just take my hammer to the scale and that will be the end of it.

I am rolling Week 0 as well as the Week 0 from the end of the challenge into this challenge to make another proper 6 week challenge.  This format works best for me and the last challenge reminded me of that.  During this challenge I have a family vacation planned from August 9th - 14th.  The kids and I will be camping in the Rocky's and the Badlands.  Then another trip the 25th-29th for the Minnesota State Fair.  

 

Power

I am currently at the beginning of week 3 for my 5/3/1 lifting program.  I won't actually have any time during week 0 to get to the gym since my first vacation starts mid week.  But my goal is to hit the gym twice per week.  Workout A is DL and OHP, Workout B is Squats and Bench.   

 

Grace

I need to get 3 other workout sessions in a week, ideally each and every one of these will involve a hammer.  This 6 week challenge will go up to just a few weeks before the HammerRace.  I need to get comfortable doing some running with the hammer as well as just building up strength wielding the hammer.  This will likely come to fruition with 2 Sledgehammer Shenanigan TM workouts a week, and then supplement with a short hammer run or just some tire slams at home.  I am allowing some non-hammer substitutions.  I will still benefit from some running without the hammer or maybe some rucking.  While on vacation there will be a lot less hammering and more substituting with non-hammer activities. 

 

Wisdom

I basically stopped logging food sometime during the last challenge.  I'm still logging into MFP but I'm not doing anything.  I really liked not having to worry about logging food during my Whole30 and I'd like to recreate that.  I still use MFP for meal planning purposes but with the right choices I don't have to worrry about the MFP drudgery day to day.  So I'm going to try a modified Whole30/Paleo so that I don't have to log food.  The following is my attempt at making this SMART but really these are just guidelines. 

Unlimited - Paleo approved foods are allowed in unlimited quantities - as determined by appetite of course

Controlled - There are some exceptions to Paleo that I am allowing but they must be in controlled amounts to still allow for not logging.. This also includes some calorie dense paleo approved foods.  These should be in controlled amounts only...  approximately 1 serving of each daily although exceptions are allowed if I can make a case for the choice.

  • nuts, dairy, peanut butter, even some low processed whole grains

Limited - These are foods that, in general, aren't condusive to my goals but it's also not good to be that restrictive and these foods are not necessarily bad enough to be variances.  They are like variance wannabes. 

  • Other grains...  I guess that's the whole list.  I'm sure I'll add to this as I go. ;) 

Variances - Last challenge I limited sweets to one per day.  I get that not being restrictive is good for the soul but this was jsut too much.  3 variances are allowed a week.  

  • ice cream, pizza, sweets, fries... the list is long and we all basically know what is on this list.  

Some exceptions and fine tuning: This is all about being able to make good choices day to day so these are really just guidelines.  I'd like to stick to it closely enough to be successful without logging food and without being too restrictive and allowing for some indulgences.  

 

Wonder

Wonder is going to look a bit different this time.  My sanity no longer hinges on making the most of my summer.  The end of August and into September is always the most hectic time of the year and the transition from summer into the school year always makes me a little bit crazy.  Qbert starts high school this year :o as well as cross country and any number of other acedemic clubs. Peach is properly in middle school and dance classes start up soon too.  The class I teach starts in a couple weeks as well.  Although this semester I am back to just 1 class and it is my favorite and easiest class.  

So Wonder here is focused on being organized and prioritizing so that I have time to relax as well.  I really really need to start up my bujo again as there are lots of important dates to keep track of and I need to keep up on the crochet so I can organize an auction in October.  This goal isn't very SMART as is but I think it will become more concrete as I go.

I can't believe it's possible for you to get more powerful, graceful and wise but I am here to stalk just in case. 

 

Oh yeah. and I officially vote for taking the hammer to the scale.

There is always room for more but I appreciate the complement.  

 

I would do it too if my scale wasn't expensive and I'd regret it later.  Perhaps I should just buy a cheapy just for the satisfaction of beating the crap out of it.

It'd be worth five bucks for a cheap crappy scale just to smash it with a hammer!

I was just looking at the spreadsheet I had started for this challenge and my notes.  I always miss something when I do my write up.  This time I missed that I had intended to change the theme a bit...

Following! I'm moving soon and I'm really excited to smash my gross old trash bin with a hammer when I no longer need it, so I am VERY in favor of smashing things with hammers these days!

Week 0 Day 1

It was a good day to start the new challenge despite the fact that it was a rest day, which will be following by 2 additional rest days due to scheduling and then vacation..  But meh.  

 

Power - Rest Day

 

Grace - Rest Day

 

Wisdom - Food went really well.  One of my biggest issues in the last couple of challenges is that I set food goals and then don't really think about them that much.  I had a better sense yesterday that I HAD food goals and needed to think about what I was eating.  I had the same food that I bring to work everyday, which is all paleo except for the cheese I add to my eggs.  Dinner was bangers and mash, as requested by Qbert.  My bangers are paleo chicken sausages and my mash was 80% mashed cauliflower mixed in with the potatoes.  The gravy, well the gravy was just gravy cuz I don't do fake gravy.  But I tried to just limit the portion size.  I also had a very healthy portion of peas to top it all off.  I did get hungry before bed but I had a scrambled egg and a couple slices of bacon that hit the spot.  There was also 2 dark chocolate squares midday but I can't in good conscious call dark chocolate a variance unless it is baked with flour, egss, and sugar - which it wasn't.  So I'm placing it in the limited food category for purposes of the challenge.

Wonder -  It was scout night and a committee meeting. In addition I have a standing date with Peach on Mondays to watch Sunday night's Bg Brother episode and then a date with LS to watch Sunday night's GoT - which OMFG was an amazing episode.  Anyway.  I didn't do anything to help further along any productivity.  Except I did sign my contract for teaching my class this semester and got that turned in so I can start getting paid.  I have only one evening left to get ready for camping trip and we have planned to go to a movie.  Priorities.

Good job with food mindfulness!

 

Boo to GoT.  I've read the books, and I've never seen the show, but I've heard that the show has actually passed up the books, and is revealing story spoilers, and I think that stinks on ice.  So I'm trying hard to have zero exposure, but it's difficult.  I wish he would just hurry up and write the bloody books.

I usually try to stay away from spoilers too so you should be safe here.  I have also heard that Martin has directed them to use a different ending than what will be in the books so potentially it won't spoil everything... Good luck in your endeavors.

I always love the Wonder Woman theme, so totally following. Good idea to try and strengthen those habits you've been working on and tweak what hasn't worked so far.

Week 0 Day 2

We took advantage of $5 movie Tuesday again.  Between that and finalizing the packing there was no time for a workout.  This week's activity will all have to come from hiking and caving.  

 

Power - Rest Day

 

Grace - Rest Day

 

Wisdom - Another great food day.  I hadn't planned on a variance today since I'll be on vacation.  But we get free popcorn at the movies that I had intended on ignoring.  We get a tiny bag.  But this time the kid at concessions decided to be nice and give us a tiny bag each.  I ignored it through about 2/3 of the movie and then dove in.

Wonder -  Had a great time at the movies.  We saw Valerian.  I wasn't overly impressed with anything except the effects.  I like the universe in general so perhaps I should give the books a try.  It's nice now that the kids are older.  We all watch the previews before the movie and we all want to see so many of them.  The movie didn't leave much time for packing so I was up a bit late finishing up that.  I should be on the road tonight by supper time. 

I will not have my laptop with me on vacay and Tapatalk is broke so my updates will resume on Tuesday.  Have fun y'all.
