Defeating Infinite Procrastination

Recommended Posts

(I was about to start this post with a lot of screaming. I don't need to do that.)

TO DO

(because i have no time but that's no excuse because you can't procrastinate your future away) .... (*looks sternly at self)

Survive

Pick up Korean ID (10th)

Register with WWOOF and get a place

Book New Zealand plane tickets

Get Hep A vacc

Organise where in New Zealand I want to go for 10 days

Buy a t-shirt

Return a pair of shorts to UK (via parents)

Deal with mosquito bites

Go to Jejudo (14-17)

Do other things in Korea my mother has planned

(I didn't ...... realise how long that list actually was. Oops?)

CHALLENGES

(other than myself and my life)

#1 food

I don't know how to deal with this one because I never know what kind of food I will be presented with on any given day. It may be a day sustained only on snacks, or it may be a meal every two hours, and if I'm going to work on a farm for a couple of weeks, that will do something different. Monitoring my intake won't do much, restricting my intake won't do much. Instead, my goal will be to make any meal at least 1/3 fresh veggies when possible. Or at least five pieces of fruit/veg a day. And only drink one Sprite a day (they're so addictive in the muggy heat and exercise of Korea pls someone help me)

#2 movement

I'm doing 10 pushups before every shower. I'm hiking every off week because that's on the itinerary. I need something solid and sustainable. Before a shower I'm going to up it to 10 reps of squats, sit-ups, planks (10 sec), and pushups. I will try three sets if possible, but one set every other day is the minimum. Once I am settle somewhere for 2+ weeks, I will go running (not at midday - I don't want to die from heat exhaustion) with the Zombies Run 5k app (they've updated it and I'm rather excited)

#3  things

Everyday, cross off at least one item for every 2 hours of free time I have on that day. Today I have lots, two days ago I got home at 11 and woke up at 7. Deal with each day accordingly and get things done.

#4  words

I'm challenged by my friend to write 500 words a day. That's all I need. I need to do it if I want to finish this book. I want to at some point build a workshop and actually critique each other's work with some others, but that will take a short while, and I need a close group that I'm happy to talk with about that.

It's amazing what things you pick up when you volunteer for stuff. The number of functions for Spreadsheet I have just learnt isn't a lot, but I learned stuff so yay! #skills

ADULT RESPONSIBILITIES

I have found a great deal for plane tickets. I DONT WANNA

Dealing with money over 100 quid is so stressful. It seems like such a large permanent number. Anything over 30 is expensive!

These tickets are 420, they are great (though baggage size is another issue because I want to get it all in carry on and idk if my bag is small enough eeeeeeek), but it's money and that's stressful and I don't want to commit to such a decision.

What if it goeswrong?

What if insurance doesn't cover?

What if the money gets wasted?

Blergy

I should just buy it

......

dun wanna

I wanted to go to the US for my gap year (mostly to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, but also to travel America) and I kinda went nope. Entrance is so expensive with visas and ESTs (?) and gun laws and people and the hassle. So I kinda just said nope, and went a simpler route of less countries but more time.

And thanks! :D

I'm used to it here now I guess, you know, born and raised.  I did some travelling in my early 20's (Ireland, Denmark, Germany) but at this point, I'm basically a whole adult with a pretty permanent job and one of those husband things (so everything is twice as expensive).  We are working on it, but if you know anything about US teacher salaries...it'll be a while.

That's kind of why I decided I needed to take a gap year and go travelling now, before I get into student debt and have a mortgage and possibly relationships. My mother asked why I couldn't do it after, I said that it wasn't what I wanted to do, and why not take advantage of the time I have now? But yeah, good luck with yours! At least there's tons to explore inside the US itself :P

Dooooooo it!!!!  I loved travelling!  And yeah, currently, we are working on planning and saving for a cross country trip.  We are east coast and we have family and friends west coast, so it would be pretty fun.

If it helps, the baggage size they say they'll allow is usually at least one inch smaller in every direction than the actual "does your carry on fit" basket thing. At least in my experience. If your bag is "close enough" it's probably close enough.

My favourite issue of it though it that I will be taking multiple airlines to get from Korea to New Zealand, and they each have their own weight and size limits (not even depending on the plane - which would make more sense) that I have to balance. How do those rules even work? Some airlines say that you can use the limits of the connecting or previous flight, while others say that its not allowed.

But I'm probs gonna ditch some clothes now anyway, but we'll see how it goes :P

Heya! And yeah, I just really want something concrete for airlines, it's such a hassle when travelling. Tbh I might just give up and put most of my non-essentials inside a small check in bag, and then take the rest as carry on. We shall see.

TODAY IS WARM

And I wore jeans

Because I am dumb

For walking 30 minutes to my grandmother's house

And back

...

Sigh

But today has been good. Applied for my Korean ID card and got my fingers nice and covered in ink for it.

I got a response from my WWOOF farm that they're happy to have me for around 2 weeks at the end of august. I'll probably come back for a week to see people and pick up the ID card, then head out for another three weeks on another farm.

I still need to buy my plane tickets. I don't know why I get filled with such nervousness and apprehension at the idea (I mean, I do, I just have less clue on how to get over it other than just doing it. I put off buying my insurance for about three months because it was 200+)

20 seconds of courage!

Or... get slightly drunk and do it! (Not so drunk you get distracted, just enough to "lower your inhibitions" as they say)

Or... get noise blocking headphones and sing LA LA LA really loudly while you make the purchase to pretend it didn't happen. (The headphones because unless you're some kind of mutant you can't cover your ears and click on things on your computer at the same time.)

Or... chicken out and beg a trusted friend to do it for you! Only someone you really trust, though, because you'll have to give them your credit card.

Best of luck!

You will get it done, just do one airline a day for awhile tile you have a a base line, then check and make sure it is all the same the day you decide to pull the trigger.

Then you are just researching, maybe for a book and can see how things go. Good luck

Sounds like a plan! I head off for Jeju from Monday to Thursday, so if I look at a couple everyday, I should be able to buy it on the Friday - the rest day.Should be in advance enough to still have a decent discount.

Following! New Zealand sounds so exciting! And I hope you enjoy working on a farm. My advice: drink lots of water! It's so easy to forget while out in the fields and get dehydrated.

Yeah, I need to keep ontop of being hydrated - it's amazing how much you sweat in Korea (where I am rn), and working will make that worse. But all the plum juice tea!!

And yep, I'm writing a book. I haven't won a single NaNo in about five years, but I'm determined to make it a habit. I love writing and I just want to finish one!
