To honor your anniversary, I just ate an icecream drumstick for breakfast.  :loyal:

Okay, so I eat one at breakfast probably 2-3 times a week anyway.  But today's was because I read your post. So it counts!

HI EVERYONE!

I have so much to catch up on.

it's been a really whirlwind two weeks. I thought I could keep up here, but APPARENTLY I COULD NOT.

Thank you for all the anniversary wishes!

tbh I was kinda on the fence about getting married because blah blah blah institutions blah blah fishsticks but I'm really glad we did. We were super partnered up, in it for the long haul etc. before, but it's pretty sweet to have an anniversary. even if we never give gifts and marked 5 years with ice cream and crazy road food.

hey here are the pickles that I made the night before we left! not shown the freezer food, or the radish slices that I used the remaining dill pickle brine on and stuck in the fridge.

Friday 8/18 we woke up in ohio, and I went for a 2 mile run down a long straight road (um, ohio) next to the hotel that had a surprising amount of tractor trailer traffic (um, ohio next to a highway). then we went over and met Eighteen and his mom at the college to get them papers they needed for dorm check in, and went to pick up some donuts (I am a HUGE FAN of finding local donut shops) for Eighteen and his new roommates. We moved him into his dorm super quickly - we were the first ones there so he had his pick of the suite (which is what he wanted) and we awkwardly hung out for a bit until making a big blended family trip to Walmart for stuff we needed - like some cleaning supplies, toilet plunger, a little chest of drawers, hangers, a bean bag chair (ok that was my idea but he was TOTALLY INTO IT), etc. then back to the dorm where most of the other kids had arrived, and then we all had dinner together. We said goodbye to him that night after dinner, because he wasn't planning to be awake in the morning when we rolled out.

this is his new scene. spoiler alert: he says he likes it a lot, has settled in, his roommates are good dudes, and classes are going well. YAY.

Sat 8/19. was a DAY OF DRIVING, western ohio to eastern MD. we got to Assateague by 9PM including stopping for groceries. we set up tents in the dark and chatted with our friends and went to sleep.

Sunday 8/20! beach!  we got all our stuff set up (like SHADE).

Monday 8/21 - long run day - i ran OVER THE BRIDGE which I was so excited about. it was 4.5 miles and not nearly as difficult as I was afraid it would be.

be13a0d4b0b5765a5dddb89cfe40fd64.jpg

Then ECLIPSE! we watched from the beach. it was about 80% where we were, which was pretty cool.

colindar solar filter!

3bd30955403117f7ce755b347407ea63.jpg

Tuesday 8/22 - beach! and it was tie dyed tuesday, so we ran down and watched people do that at the ranger station.

72c424f1b80fcdb6eb7972742d1a3c17.jpg

wednesday 8/23 - beach! 3 mile run today.and we spent pretty much the whole day on the beach, and left early for all you can eat crabs... which were delicious.

thursday 8/24 beach! LAST DAY BEACH. so we did our best to spend the whole day out on the beach, and had leftover hotdogs for dinner, and a fire.

friday 8/25 - I actually got up and ran for about 2 miles on the last day before we dismantled our campsite and drove home! I was pretty surprised that I was able to do that.

8/26 - made it home for TKD, but only the regular class. actually no kids showed up so I just practiced forms with my instructor... which was great.

and then 8/27 - sunday! long run. FIVE MILES, in 50:44. I felt reasonably good. I need to eat a little before these longer runs, I'm glad I figured that out.

OK GOTTA GO TO TKD. will try and get back on quickly and finish up for the last week.

Your beach game is fierce. Also, way to keep up the running. No idea how you do it, but impressive. ;)

thanks! it helps to have a run that is rapidly coming up, at a distance that is a little tricky to just jump in to. I'm actually really surprised at my planning - I managed to finish the training 2 weeks ahead of schedule so I'm redoing the last 2 weeks in order to be PEAK PERFORMER. (lolz)

TODAY I AM:

  • working at home, because of labor day traffic on the route home
  • exceptionally tired, because of all the travel over the last 2 weeks OH AND ALSO my husband missed his stop last night on the (last) train, got off at the next station, tried to call me 15 times but I was sound asleep, and started to walk the 8 miles back to the station. I woke up 1 1/2 hours into his trek and saw the messages and went to fetch him and that hour of awake and driving interlude was SUPER EXHAUSTING TOO.
  • thoughtfully determining that I should not sign up for a craftsy cardigan knitalong that looks super interesting because the yarn cost will be over $80 and oh also I have 9 sweaters and vests with yarn and pattern already matched up that I really ought to knit first (rav link here if you're curious)
  • planning to run just before lunch time, because I just couldn't first thing today.
  • gonna get the rest of the week up on here!

I had a great weekend but it was a little too full of house cleaning to update well.

I am hanging out for another 15 minutes waiting to make sure there's no bus issues for Fourteen, who is off to his first day of HIGH SCHOOL WHUT.

so last week....

8/28 - monday - got up and drove to the airport and flew to denver. I was in the denver office by noon, and didn't stop for lunch because I was feeling a little rushed, and so had to lean on my stash of proteiny granola bars. we had a work dinner but I didn't go too crazy, and managed to get to sleep at a sorta reasonable hour.

8/29 - tuesday - I'd brought my travel yoga mat with me but didn't have a chance to use it because I had to get up and do a lot of work in prep for being in an 8 hour meeting all day. which went well, and I didn't eat too many things (always a hazard when sitting still for 8 hours) and then after work I walked a few blocks to a thai restaurant and had some tom yum noodle soup, and then back to the hotel to sleep.

here are the things about denver:

1. I never get to go there for work even though it's a big office and I work with a bunch of the people there and then when I do get to go

2. it's always a shoehorned visit so EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE A BUNCH OF DENVER NERDS I can't reach out to them to visit and then also

3. it's, you know, mile high city, and I am from SEA LEVEL so while I'm persistently winded EVEN THOUGH I feel I am pretty cardiovascularly fit but at least

4. I have to drink ALL OF THE WATER because the elevation will ruin me if I am not super hydrated so that's healthy at least.

8/30 wednesday I got up and went for a 3 mile run in the hotel which was pretty much at my regular pace and kind of ridiculous because see number 3 above. So, denver messes with me because I can't stand in front of a room and talk to people without getting winded but I can still run for 3 miles. I also went for a brisk walk at lunch. because why not?!?!

also everyone warned me about rattle snakes on this trip. to which I helpfully shared this non-helpful article about rattlesnakes losing their rattlesnake sound because of natural selection.

the trip home too forever, I didn't get to my house until 2:30 am, it was exhausting, and I was so tired on thursday. We had a belt test in tkd so I didn't have a lot of exercise to do then but I'm cool with that.

9/1 friday I worked from home! and I DID do my run, and it was just fine. still catching up on sleep.

9/2 sat. up for TKD, which was forms practice for about an hour with my instructor and then I had to skip the regular class b/c Fourteen was driving in our town tractor parade, and I needed to rush home to see that. and then we did some cleaning, and some reading, and went to a square dance which the fitbit hilariously interpreted as OUTDOOR BIKE for 33 minutes (that was the virginia reel).

9/3 sunday! had to clean the whole house, because 1. it badly needed it but 2. more importantly COMPANY. it was a rainy day so I delayed my run.

9/4 MONDAY that's yesterday and now I"m caught up as long as I don't lose this whole post before I hit "submit..." I had my 4.5 mile run in the morning, and that felt really good at about a 10 min/mile pace. we went on a little adventure to find a local place to swim (we have very poor access to swimming holes around here) and checked out an abandoned/flooded quarry (too scary for me, I'm afraid of things that live in quarrys) and then did a quick hike around a shallow lake so my friend could jump in for a minute. It was a nice day, even though I was exhausted from waking up early because of a little work anxiety.

so, today I need to dust off my goals and see how I'm doing. I've been losing weight - I'm down about 2 lbs since we got back from vacation... which is kind of amazing considering the travel etc. Also I never lose 2 lbs in 1 week. so I'm still kind of wondering what's going on there. and I need to finish catching up with all y'all!

Wat?

rite?

while I live about 75 miles from NYC it's in a town that is very proud of it's old farming heritage (and there's lots of smaller farms around here too). they started running a tractor parade, which is an hour of old tractors going down the street followed by a farm day demo down behind the fire house.

UMMMM yeah, so not any travel in the foreseeable future, so that's good / relaxing. this weekend is the 8K that I've been practicing for, and also a tkd demo, and after that I feel very clean slatish!

YOU GUYS I just want to eat all the things. I had leftover ratatouille (good) with cornbread (pretty ok) and honey butter (um) for dinner followed by graham cracker sandwich with chocolate frosting on the inside (errrrr) and then an ice cream sandwich. Hold on while I drink a liter of water and see if that's what the problem is.

this has been a NOT MUCH EXERCISE week.

I had tkd on tuesday, but we are practicing for a demo so it's mostly a bunch of standing around. wednesday we had a lot of rain all day long. and today, I had tkd, with, again, a lot of standing around. tomorrow I thought about getting up for a quick run but I have acupuncture at 730 and i am so tired I don't know if I can do it. sat. is the 8k, I hope I'm not wrecking things by not running between monday and sat., but it is what it is.

I got a "you look slimmer!" at work today. which! it's TRUE. I've only lost 2 lbs. but look at this photo of me doing half corn lotus pose as I shucked a full bag (50 ears) of corn in prep for blanching, cutting from cob, and freezing (total 40 cups).

weirdly my belly still seems just as big but I think my body is rearranging some. my arms and shoulders and pecs seem more muscular than they used to. my wedding ring is looser (so my fingers are smaller?!) and I think my face is slimming down a bit.

that said I can't find any good comparison photos and maybe I just feel / look slimmer because I am so tan right now.

I'm pretty tired right now guys, so I'm gonna go to sleep.
