Juliebarkley is (still) a tidying tornado

Recommended Posts

Julie and Tun sat under a tree, relaxing in the shade with some water and sandwiches.

Julie lay back, relaxing into the cool grass. "Still quite a ways to go, isn't it?"

"Yep."

"No idea when we'll be done?"

"Nope."

"Me neither. But at least I''m enjoying the ride."

The crow (which Tun had nicknamed Sparky) hopped down, snagged a tomato slice from Julie's sandwich. and flew back up to his branch. He was clearly enjoying his break, too.

This challenge is mostly as the same as the last challenge. I have decided to take a break from the recording to focus on the homeschool, and GET IT DONE this month! My challenge will start tomorrow, both because I was late in posting and because I felt sick and tired (literally) by early afternoon.

Physical: Lift and haul, man. Lift and haul.

1. Take a short walk every day. With the usual exceptions for illness and truly awful weather. 6/7 is a pass. Any of the other walks (Zombies or long walk) count for this requirement.

2. Take one long walk once a week. I need some good destinations.

3. Original Couch to 5k Zombies, Run! 3x per week. Pass will be 3x per week, but I need a working phone in order to start. Therefore, this part doesn't start until I have a phone that can run this program.

4. Current bodyweight workout, with modifications. I'm going to keep up the modified workout from last time; I quite liked it.. 3x per week is a pass, unless I am sick.

Spiritual: Find peace amidst the chaos.

5. 3 prayers per day. I'm going to drop the pass requirement to 5/7 per week and at least 2x per day, every day, as I have not been consistent. I am going to drop the reading goal this time around to focus on this one (and also because all of my books are in a giant pile in my basement).

Mental: Sort the stuff, find the info, save the world?

6. Konmari all the things. I have been loving this process. I haven't been getting rid of quite as many books as I had hoped, but that was predictable. I will be done them in just a couple of days, woo! However, papers will be slow and boring. Anyone who cheers me on will be most appreciated. :)

7. Enter all of the remaining homeschool subjects into Firetask. I want to finish this so bad, and the end is in sight. There are about 4 subjects left, depending on what I do, but they are the most poorly defined of all of the subjects because of course I left the hardest until last. I don't want to give myself the opportunity to procrastinate on them any more!

Random Encounters: What's lurking in the piles?

Bonus: 5 random encounters/week. My random encounters sheet is now buried in my paper pile (oops!), but once I begin papers, it'll either turn up, or it will be easy enough to generate a new one from the little jobs that the papers will give me.

Bonus: Post every day. Because I am not good at the whole regular posting thing. And I should post on other people's threads instead of just lurking, too. One post on my own and another thread each day.

Okey dokey, here we go!

Physical: Lift and haul, man. Lift and haul.

1. Take a short walk every day. 1/6. Done! Forgot to take the flashlight, so at times I could barely see my own feet. At the streetlight, I did meet two adorable tiny frogs that I shooed off the road to keep them safe. There are a LOT of frogs around this year. At one point, I was picking up and moving at least 5 frogs per walk.

2. Take one long walk once a week. 0/1. None yet; I need to think about this one.

3. Original Couch to 5k Zombies, Run! 3x per week. 0/3. No phone yet, but I am the highest bidder, so fingers crossed!

4. Current bodyweight workout, with modifications. 0/3. I should tabata today, I really should. Maybe I still will.

Spiritual: Find peace amidst the chaos.

5. 3 prayers per day. 0/5. :(. This is a failure already. I should not have let myself fall down here. I have yet to do one today.

Mental: Sort the stuff, find the info, save the world?

6. Konmari all the things. 1/7. Did a chunk of arts and crafts. Then the stack of keepers fell on me, so I dug myself out and moved some to a box.

7. Enter all of the remaining homeschool subjects into Firetask. 0/4?. Not yet.

Random Encounters: What's lurking in the piles?

Bonus: 5 random encounters/week. 0/5.

Bonus: Post every day. 1/7. Posting here, then heading over to someone else to cheer them on!

Here's how things stand on day 3:

Physical: Lift and haul, man. Lift and haul.

1. Take a short walk every day. 1/6. Wednesday was exhausting. I did not get a walk in. However! I asked a library customer about her Tai Chi T-shirt earlier in the week, and she forcefully persuaded me to come along to her Tai Chi class on Wednesday morning. I have wanted to get into Tai Chi for a while, but I wasn't expecting the sudden push. Now I have to decide if I want to sign up. It does feel like the universe has shoved this under my nose and given me a good opportunity.

2. Take one long walk once a week. 0/1. I totally forgot that he Amazing Inflatable 5K I am doing this Saturday will of course count for a long walk.

3. Original Couch to 5k Zombies, Run! 3x per week. 0/3. Patience for phone, patience.

4. Current bodyweight workout, with modifications. 1/3. I persuaded myself to tabata despite the lateness of the hour.

Spiritual: Find peace amidst the chaos.

5. 3 prayers per day. 0/5. Not going so well.

Mental: Sort the stuff, find the info, save the world?

6. Konmari all the things. 1/7. Finished arts and crafts! As predicted, I did not get rid of very much. I expect more will disappear as I use the books; it is hard to tell which books you love for a craft that you are not actively learning or experienced in. I now have only miscellaneous, gamebooks, comics, and magazines.

7. Enter all of the remaining homeschool subjects into Firetask. 1/4?. Entered one, a super-short one that barely feels like it counts. But progress is progress.

Random Encounters: What's lurking in the piles?

Bonus: 5 random encounters/week. 0/5.

Bonus: Post every day. 2/7.

It's been a busy week! On Friday, I took my mother out for her Christmas present (we procrastinated just a little), and although it was not physically strenuous, we all arrived home exhausted and took long mid-afternoon naps. Then we had to go to bed early, as we had the Inflatable 5K on Saturday! I have never done a 5K before, but it was a lot of fun, and we got to poke around the mazes at the venue afterward. I am so glad that the rain held off. Then later that evening, a mouse ran into my room. I urged it into a plastic container with surprisingly little trouble, took it out to the wooded area, and left it with some birdseed and crackers. Moved one frog off the road on the way.

Physical: Lift and haul, man. Lift and haul.

1. Take a short walk every day. 5/6. Missed Friday as I was so tired for no real reason.

2. Take one long walk once a week. 1/1. Inflatable 5K!.

3. Original Couch to 5k Zombies, Run! 3x per week. 0/3. I won the phone, now just waiting for it to arrive.

4. Current bodyweight workout, with modifications. 2/3. Did I mention I was tired on Friday?

Spiritual: Find peace amidst the chaos.

5. 3 prayers per day. 0/5. Time to focus on this goal for next week. I should be able to make it today, so that I haven't completely flunked out.

Mental: Sort the stuff, find the info, save the world?

6. Konmari all the things. 7/7. Started miscellaneous, but am not too far in yet. I need to review my "joy" criteria, as I have been getting rid of less as I go along. I'm pretty sure "I might use it one day" is creeping back in.

7. Enter all of the remaining homeschool subjects into Firetask. 1/4?. No more progress to report.

Random Encounters: What's lurking in the piles?

Bonus: 5 random encounters/week. 0/5. Didn't even try.

Bonus: Post every day. 3/7. Room for improvement.

Week 2!

Physical: Lift and haul, man. Lift and haul.

1. Take a short walk every day. 2/6. All good. Today's walk featured the death of my flashlight, and therefore I do not know how many frogs there were. I just hope I didn't step on any.

2. Take one long walk once a week. 0/1. This is still up in the air. It will have to be Sunday unless there is terrible weather forecast (as per usual this summer; are we the only ones having the Summer of Endless Rain?).

3. Original Couch to 5k Zombies, Run! 3x per week. 0/3. Phone will come any time now...

4. Current bodyweight workout, with modifications. 0/3. Today is Tabata day. I will make it happen, but it's not done yet.

Spiritual: Find peace amidst the chaos.

5. 3 prayers per day. 0/5. My continual failure at this is making me feel like a terrible person. I need to get back "on the horse", as it were.

Mental: Sort the stuff, find the info, save the world?

6. Konmari all the things. 2/7. Miscellaneous non-fiction is almost complete! I am really looking forward to moving books back onto their shelves, and it should be happening by the end of the week!.

7. Enter all of the remaining homeschool subjects into Firetask. 1/4?. Ok, I need to steal (ahem, *borrow*) my son's computer and get this progressing.

Random Encounters: What's lurking in the piles?

Bonus: 5 random encounters/week. 0/5. Not started.

Bonus: Post every day. 1/7. Let's try to beat last week!

So I have just realized that my planned approximate time for my Parliament Hill walk is only 4-6 weeks away, and I have not even planned a route yet. Perhaps I should get my butt in gear on that.

Hi. Long story short, I got busy, then I got sick, then I had been away so long that it was kind of embarrassing to come back, so I procrastinated the challenge away. But! I was (mostly) working on it still. I nearly got all of my homeschool stuff entered, I did my daily walks, and I finished Konmari-ing all of my books and began working on my papers. The other challenges suffered, though. I really could have used the accountability of daily posting.

Onward to the next challenge!
