Hey everyone. So, I've been pretty bummed out about my progress, or lack thereof. Recently I've started a challenge strong, then something happens and complete derails me. It's frustrating. I'M GOING TO GET BACK INTO THE GAME DAMNIT!!! I need to do better. Albeit, I'm still doing a lot better than I was a year ago.

What I've been doing hasn't been working. I'm starting over from square 1. I'm making super simple goals and going to build on them as things move forward. I'm in this for the long haul, not the immediate. I need to keep in mind what my goals are and remind myself why I want to accomplish them. I need to find my determination again.

This time I'm going for the Lord of the Rings theme. Frodo started off as a simple hobbit, lazing around, eating all the time... but by the end he went through so much and became a much stronger hobbit in the end. That's my goal! Progress!

Goals for the end of 2017:

Here is an update on my progress towards my 2017 goals:

Spoiler
  • Finish 2 more classes towards my MBA degree
    • I am currently taking a class called Ethics and Law in Business. I'm making progress towards this goal.
  • Have a firm habit established of working out at least 3 times a week
    • I have not made progress towards this goal. I am at the point that I am not going to the gym at all and just focusing on food.
  • Have a firm habit established of meal planning
    • I'm still doing pretty good on working towards this one. Most of my variances take place on the weekends. The meal planning works for during the week.
  • Try 7 new healthy recipes
    • I actually tried a new healthy recipe last night and it was amazing! That's 1/7. It's progress.
  • Eat at least 1 vegetables daily
    • I am incorporating more vegetables into my diet, but I'm not quite there. I am making improvements on this one though.
  • Get at least 10,000 steps in daily
    • I started off strong in the last challenge, but that quickly derailed. I'm going to try again to do the 7,000 steps again this challenge.
  • Lose 1 pants size
    • Not making good progress. Need to turn this around. I think I've gained a few pounds back. Can't let this continue!
  • Wake up early enough as to not have to rush to get to work on time
    • I've actually managed several times to wake up at a reasonable time to get ready for work. It's inconsistent though. I'll keep working on it!

Some of them I'm going in the right direction, some of them I am not. I'm going to work harder to improve this challenge.

Goals for this Challenge:

Goal 1: Say no to second breakfast: No more than 2 variances per week

tumblr_miaapiLLDf1s3e4c3o1_250.gif

I'm going for this one again. I didn't succeed last time. I have to learn how to say 'no' to second breakfast! This is the most important goal for me this challenge. I can't outrun my fork. I HAVE to get back on track with eating healthy. I've already meal prepped for this week, so I'm starting off strong!

Goal 2: Battle the Nazgul: Work out 3 times per week

latest?cb=20150423205044

Ok, last challenge this fell through. This is going to be the same as before. I still kept looking at it as 'going to the gym' for working out. This time I'm really going to focus on the 30 minutes of working out. I think part of the problem is my trainer keeps putting me on work outs that take an hour and a half just to do the weight lifting... then he wants me to do 30 minutes of cardio. This is for 3 days/week. I don't want to work out 2 hours a day, 4 days a week right now. That's too much for me to handle, especially while I'm in school. I'm going to have to just do my own thing I think. In October, I'm going to cancel my trainer sessions. I don't think it's worth the money for me anymore. I think I've learned enough on my own for me to take that next step in controlling my own workouts.

I would LOVE input from everyone on workouts to do. I'm wanting to lose weight and get healthy. I'm not looking to become a power lifter (at least not right now). I want to get more energy, lose weight, and live a healthier life! Thoughts? :)

Goal 3: Walk to Mordor: get at least 7,000 steps a day 4 times per week

fellowship.jpg

Time to get moving again! Gotta get those steps in to throw the ring into mount doom! I didn't do well on this last challenge, so this challenge I'm going to try and make it a little easier. My goal is to do 7,000 steps 4x/week. Let's see if I can manage that. If I can, I'll bump it up to 5x per week. It's about improvement!

Goal 3: Fellowship of the RhiaWolfe: Check in at least 4x/week

4424_5.jpg

Even with my busy schedule, I need to check in with you guys and my accountabilibuddies at least 4x per week. I need support. I need to talk to you guys. Keep me honest, guys!

Haha! I'm bad at following the warriors too even though I have so many friends over there. You guys just need to give in and ranger it up!

Hehe... I actually thought about doing that as well, but I felt the pun might be lost and I want to focus on my support groups so I went with fellowship. Although, I am turning into quite the legend... hehe.

Totally agreed. We got this. We can do it. We WILL do it! Let's push through this to the end!

Week 0: Sunday, September 10, 2017

Starting Week 0! No excuses! Let's do this!

Goal 1: Say no to second breakfast: No more than 2 variances per week

I had 1 variance yesterday. A friend of mine and I went to dinner at Your Pie, a yummy pizza place. Not a good start, but I'm determined to limit my variances this week hard core!

Meal Prep: I COOKED A THING!!!!  I found a recipe online for a chicken and tortellini soup, and it came out amazing! It was so good! I made a BIG pot of it, and that's what I'm going to have for lunch at work pretty much every day this week.

0491fe0b85861a3b5497b3730218e28e.jpg

I have to admit, I'm really tired of sandwiches for lunch at work every day. Hoping to add some variety. This dish was a pain in the butt to make (a LOT of chopping and slicing of veggies) but it was totally worth it.

Variances: 1/2 ... Pending

Goal 2: Battle the Nazgul: Work out 3 times per week

I didn't do my work out yesterday. Starting today! My therapy appointment got cancelled, so I may go tot he gym tonight instead. I've got my stuff. I do need to work on homework though. Ugh. I also need to find a workout that fits me and stick to it for a while. I want to do an hour a day, 3-4 times per week... not 2+ hours.

Maybe that'll be my goal for today. Put together a workout to do this week. Yes!

ahobbitsworkout.jpg

Actually, I'm almost tempted to do this. LOL.

Work Out: 0/3 ... Pending

Goal 3: Walk to Mordor: get at least 7,000 steps a day 4 times per week

Yesterday I only got 4,335 steps. I hadn't really started my challenge yesterday, but I'm still including it. Today I'm already starting out in a better place. Let's make this work!

frodo_sam.jpg

7,000 Steps: 0/4 - Pending...

Goal 3: Fellowship of the RhiaWolfe: Check in at least 4x/week

Started my challenge today, but yesterday I did check in with my accountabilibuddies to show them the new recipe I tried. I'm going to count it!

Check In: 1/4 - Success!!!

By the way, here is the recipe for the soup if anyone wants to make it! I highly recommend. I used a little more chicken and noodles than the recipe calls for, and I probably shouldn't have. I did use more red pepper too because I like a little spice.

You have made great progress. Good call on the workouts being too long. That does seem like a lot.

They are paid for programs (though they have some free stuff) but I love all the workouts at GMB.https://gmb.io/https://gmb.io/ Good videos, good progressions, and they take a reasonable amount of time .

I also enjoy the kettlebell workout from the book Simple and Sinister, by Pavel Tsoulani (sp?)

Thanks! I really appreciate the feedback on this.

Yeah, my trainer has me on a high-rep isolationist workout that he estimates to take 1 hour and 15 minutes with 30 second rest times (but it'll take me closer to 1 hour 30-45 minutes). Then on top of that he wants me to do 30 minutes of cardio. I'm not going to do that.

I'll definitely check this out... hmm... I may also look at NF workouts too. :)

Ok, got around to reading the details!  (Work opened up like a feeding frenzy this morning.)

That soup looks delicious!

Yes you ARE going to nail this challenge.

Hah, LotR works with your name!

On workouts, what I've done (and sometimes find tedious, but it works) is just grab a pull, a push, a deadlift of some sort, and a leg exercise of some sort, and some core.   It's 5 exercises, and I do like 3-5 sets of it, depending on the reps.    OooOoOooOoo.  Ya know what would be cool?  Hah.    To make like, 'workouts decks' and theme them with fun RPG like art!   You just pull a card from the top of each deck (pull deck, push desk, etc...) and do that for the day, then discard to bottom of pile.

Week 0: Sunday, September 11, 2017

Second day of week 0. Did significantly better (although Sunday I really didn't try as I hadn't started my challenge and wasn't feeling motivated. That's changed!).

Goal 1: Say no to second breakfast: No more than 2 variances per week

No variances! For lunch I had more of my yummy yummy soup! I also had the soup for dinner. I had planned on making healthy quesadillas, but Mr. Wolfe took up the stove for a good part of the evening and I was hungry. So, I just heated up leftovers. It was still tasty! That's what I'm eating for lunch today, but for dinner I'm definitely going to do something different. lol. I don't want to get tired of it...

lembas.gif?w=300&h=132

Variances: 1/2 - Success!

Goal 2: Battle the Nazgul: Work out 3 times per week

I didn't go to the gym, but I did purposefully go for a walk. I'm not going to count this though because I didn't really get my heart rate up. I went for a walk to get my steps in, not so much for the exercise/work out. I do plan to go to the gym tonight though!

Work Out: 0/3 - Pending...

Goal 3: Walk to Mordor: get at least 7,000 steps a day 4 times per week

I got 7,719 steps in! Woot! When I got home from work, I only had about 5,000 steps. I decided to go for a walk around the neighborhood to get the rest of my steps in. I listened to my audio book as I walked. It was a nice evening for a walk!

6362419473196022422113606052_4.1.jpg

7,000 Steps: 1/4 - Success!

Goal 3: Fellowship of the RhiaWolfe: Check in at least 4x/week

Well, yesterday I started my challenge and I posted on many different threads! I also talked with my accountabilibuddies about trying to hold each other more accountable. We're working on it and should be able to give more support for each other towards our goals!

legolas-top-ten-moments-lord-of-the-ring

Check In: 2/4 - Success!!!

So, overall I say that Day 2 was a success! Only thing lacking was the work out. I call this a win. :) I definitely think I'm going to do the Zelda workout and see how that goes for me. I'm going to try the first temple tonight and I'll let you guys know how it goes!

Today so far: I woke up really groggy and I'm having trouble getting my motivation up. I came on here first off to try and remember why I'm doing this and remember that I have support. I'm drinking some hot green tea this morning and will try to push through. Already my mind is going back and forth not wanting to go to the gym tonight, but I'm trying to tell myself that I need to go.

I've got a lot to do this week and I'm a little overwhelmed. It's the excuse I keep trying to give myself to get out of going to the gym. I have homework I need to get done, I need to take my rats to the vet, and I need to go to the gym. That may not sound like a lot, but I have Tuesday and Thursday set as my gym days which leaves Wednesday for the vet and then Friday and Saturday for homework... and my homework takes a long time. *sighs* Unfortunately the only thing I COULD drop would be the gym, but I know if I don't go to the gym, I won't have the energy I need to do what I need to.

Please send all the encouragement my way!

I did get my lunch together and had a good breakfast, so I'm on track food-wise!

There's only so much time in the day to get schtuff done and it can be overwhelming...but just compartmentalize and knock out one task at a time. Instead of looking at the week as a whole and feeling overwhelmed, take it one at a time. I know that's easier said then done, but you got dis! You're a fellow wolf and I believe in your ability to man-handle this week :)

I 100% expect you to report on the Zelda workout tonight. I need to hear how it went!

Also, let's not slip by what a major win dinner was last night! You had healthy food already prepped, so when your plans for dinner went awry, plan B was a super easy choice to make. That is freaking awesome!

Great job sticking to the food plan!    And while maybe it wasn't a workout, it WAS intentional movement and that's awesome!

I was super tired, groggy, meh - feeling a bit under the weather yesterday and had not much motivation.   I told myself, "Puck, it's Day 1... just do something.  Just get up, push through it, and do what you can so you can say 'I marked that box!'"   And I did... and I felt so good about it last night.      If you don't have the motivation now, then think ahead to what will feel great later.    You DM too, so imagine it like a big moment you have to plan for your party - it seems a bit daunting and bleh now, but when you see their faces go .. O.O  o.O  ^.^  - suddenly YOUR mood and feelings are boosted too!

I would LOVE input from everyone on workouts to do. I'm wanting to lose weight and get healthy. I'm not looking to become a power lifter (at least not right now). I want to get more energy, lose weight, and live a healthier life! Thoughts? :)

I'm obviously pretty partial to the Power Cardio thing I'm doing right now.  It's concise, balanced, and effective.  Best of all, it's only 45 minutes 2 days per week.  I know some of the lifts I do probably don't appeal to you, but the structure is a good framework to build on and I'm more than happy to help you find alternative exercises you might like better.

I've done this so many times.  Once the internal debate starts it takes so much more energy to convince yourself to go. A strategy that works for me is to not even allow the debate.  I don't even try to convince myself; it's not even up for discussion.  Not giving that internal self a voice reserves all your energy for everything else.  That's not to say that *sometimes* it can be a necessity to juggle a gym day but if the source is that inner monologue, then it's probably a lie.  You can do this!

On workouts, what I've done (and sometimes find tedious, but it works) is just grab a pull, a push, a deadlift of some sort, and a leg exercise of some sort, and some core.   It's 5 exercises, and I do like 3-5 sets of it, depending on the reps.

I've done basically this before. I had a list of three each Push, Pull, Legs, and Core exercises and I rotated through them through the week. Took me about 30 minutes I think

Always good to see you, Wolf Friend!

Yeah, I'm having trouble doing that. I'm thinking about making myself a schedule during my next break to see how I can accomplish as much as I possibly can. Maybe tonight have a short session at the gym then go home and do homework... then take my rats to the vet tomorrow? Hmm... I'll think on it.

I think that's been part of my problem with my previous challenges. I've been looking at the whole thing rather than just one thing at a time. That's kinda what I focused on for my yesterday summary. I didn't do perfect, but I tried to applaud myself for what I DID outside of my norm.

Did Frodo and Sam get to Mordor all in one day? No, they got there one step at a time!

Yes ma'am! I will report what I do!

I didn't really think of that as a major win... but you're right! I was more irritated because I didn't get to make what I wanted to for dinner... but I didn't do something unhealthy when my plan was derailed. Total win!

Thank you for pointing that out, Fonz!

Thanks Master Puck! I was very proud of myself for going on that walk.

I LOVE your DM analogy. I'm so going to try and use that as motivation. Work now for reward later. Worth it.

I'd be interested to hear what is involved. I think I'm going to do the Zelda workout first to get back into the game. I like the idea of the different temples and it's related to something I love. I want to see how that goes. I'd love more information though if you'd like to share!

Couldn't resist... this just really fit. LOL

Yeah, that back and forth really does take a lot of energy, doesn't it? Never really thought of it like that. Just make a decision and stick to it. Either you do, or you don't. Stop going back and forth. Stop wasting energy on it. Thanks for this. It's making me take a look at how I think about things...

Yeah, I'm just not sure what exercises are a "Push, pull, legs, and core" that really work out everything that they should. I'm still learning. I could look some up, but I'm finding workout websites to be confusing and contradictory a lot of times.
