Overview / Motivation: I'm still riding my high from completing my first Spartan Sprint a couple of weekends ago and I am hungry for more!  My goal for this challenge and going forward is to maintain a balance of cardio fitness with strength in preparation for my 2018 run at a Spartan Trifecta.  It's been a long time since I trained for something more than my general health and wellness, and I want to nurture the hunger and drive that resulted from the Sprint.  Looking forward to hitting the weights again and keeping my burpee skills and running at a strong level.

 

Main Quest:

Maintain my fitness level form the Spartan Sprint and build more strength

Week 1 Recap: No matter how many years I lift for, I never remember all the fun of DOMS!  I had a solid leg workout for the first time in a while last Friday and I am still feeling the beautiful pain.  Kinda derailed the rest of my running for the week, but typically once I recover the first time I am ready to roll going forward.  Looking forward to a productive week 2, and will hopefully make up some of week 1.

Week 2 Recap: Had a solid week 2 and made up some ground on my burpees!  I'm happy that my cardio shape is still strong, so I might up my 2 mile runs to make up for my gaps without having to find time for another run.  I do need to kick my butt into gear on digging into that Strength and Conditioning book.  It's a heavy sucker, so it is a workout of its own on my morning commute when I lug it in my back.  Looking forward to continuing my upward trajectory into week 3.

 The book is a bit of a slow read... The first few chapters are really focused at the cellular level which I know is important, just tough to understand.  It's been a looooong time since I took biology or chemistry.  I need to build some momentum.

Week 3 Recap: Continued my momentum into week 3 and looking forward to a productive week 4.  Just need to put in some extra effort in my runs and burpees and I should be able to knock all of physical challenges out of the park.  Also need to hunker down and get reading.

Yeah, one of those things you know is good information, but really hard to motivate yourself to actually read.

Week 4 Recap: All in all, I'm happy with the work I put in this challenge.  I've definitely shifted to focusing on my weight training at the expense of my running, but the important part is my cardio level is holding steady.  Was able to knock out a 3 mile run at a good pace this week without issue.  My lifts are going in the right direction and feeling good.  Looking forward to the next challenge.  I just couldn't get going on my reading.  Need to refocus on that book and my desire for the C.S.C.S. certification.
