Even though I feel like I'm consistently bagging out on week 4 of the challenges, I've been challenging STRONG.

 

the last couple of challenges I did so great! I hit goals, pretty much! I did the things, all of them! I kept doing the things!

 

BUT.... after months or years or whatever I don't even know of just running and doing martial arts (OK IT'S A LOT OF RUNNING AND A LOT OF MARTIAL ARTS,) I need to mix things up.

FALL is for FIGURING IT OUT.

 

 

WHAT *IS* NEXT, DUDES?

I don't know. that's kind of the point.

But I can tell you that I did some bodyweight squats (somewhere between 30 and 100) in boxing on Sat. at the dojo and it wrecked my legs big time. I thought I wasn't getting DOMS because I was so super fit! NOPE, I am not getting DOMS because I AM NOT CHALLENGING MYSELF.

 

so here's to challenging challenges.

 

GOAL 1.

Do Bodyweight Workouts.

Go back to the academy, or pick a darebee exercise, and do it 2x a week.

 

GOAL 2.

Plan for next things.

it's fall, it's dark in the morning, I don't want to get up and run in the dark. Get a schedule together and figure out if I'm going to start lifting weights or what. Can i fit in eskrima lessons on sundays? can I find 2 days to do heavy lifting (such as I am able to do) at the dojo while my husband is in school?

 

NOTE ALSO that I am committed to running until 10/1, because there's a 10K I kinda want to do then. aaaaaand I still am going to be doing tkd as much as possible.

 

GOAL 3.

for real, work on the house.

sweep the floor every week

work with Fourteen to get his room straightened out .

work with husband to get OUR room straightened out.

work on the blue room which is currently a big disaster area and needs to be Eighteen's room when he comes home from college for break.

work on the attic, which is rapidly returning to big disaster area from carefully cleaned and beautified new space and I just can't allow that to happen!.

 

I don't have to do any of these things all the time (except maybe sweeping the floor) but I do have to plan these things in.

 

here we go, fall! I got this!

Day 1 - didn't run. I meant to, but my legs, omg my LEGS. those squats were really killing me. (the exercise we were doing was a punching combo on heavy bags and then my instructor threw in some squats to, you know, practice ducking. so it was like: jab-squat-spring up-jab-cross-knee. and then we did some other stuff and back to the bag and we did something like: low kick-high kick-jab-squat-spring up-elbow-jumping knee. OMG). We did go to lunch with my dad and did some home chores and I also went to a friends and gleaned from her pear and apple trees, so that was all good stuff.

 

Day 2 - that's today.

My legs hurt OMG THEY HURT. so I didn't do any running in the morning.

Also I'm feeling kind of calamitous because

1. my right foot keeps locking up

2. I grabbed a cast iron pan accidentally at high temps and burned my hand last night

3. I was riding my motorcycle to work and it broke on the highway and I'm worried it's broken forever and

4. when I got home from the motorcycle breaking I stepped on SOMETHING and got a super painful large diameter splinter into my heel.

 

and my LEGS OMG MY LEGS.

 

but I was able to go to the chiropractor and she adjusted my ankle/foot (apparently a bone was out of whack) and also I put a BUNCH of aloe on my hand and it's nearly perfectly healed already and there''s NOTHING I can do about the motorcycle right now but I DID get the splinter out of my heel.

 

I did NOT eat that well. I had a protein shake for breakfast but then I had 2 pieces of cornbread (not yankee cornbread with white flour and sugar, but Appalachian corn bread cooked in a cast iron pan and with only corn flour and no sugar) with butter and honey for lunch, and I made mac and cheese for dinner (with lots of green beans BUT STILL).

 

Tomorrow AM I want to get up and go for a run, 3 miles if possible (i.e., if my foot doesn't lock up and I don't have to crawl back home). Then TKD in the evening.

Wednesday I need to get up early and drive north 1 1/2 hours to go to the doctor with my mom. that means really that I can wake up at normal time if I get right out of bed and do a bodyweight thingy.

Thursday is tough b/c of early morning drive to construction site, but there will be TKD in the evening.

Friday AM I'll do a running thing.

Sat ought to be dojo sat. but I don't think I can fit it in because of friends birthday celebrations in brooklyn.... so if I'm not doing dojo, I should do the bodyweight things.

and there! just like that week 1 is all set!

And you'll never guess who has had killer leg DOMS all week from getting back to lifting, AND skating again after 3 weeks off, AND doing it in new skates?

Also, damn gurl.   At least you got a few weeks worth of crap out of the way in one day?   Um, is that a thing?  Like... to make it seem less terrible.

 

Take care of your feet before you go running and make things worse.  Play it by ear ok?  SHEEZ.

also I hope that *talking about* fighting is the best way your lessons are useful. As much as I love learning this stuff, I never want to have to use it. the conundrum of the fighter, I think!

 

I've been reading the level 1 boards and something that @Hazard is so good at doing is asking about the MAIN QUEST. and I haven't had a main quest in a really long time. so, in the spirit of FIGURING OUT FALL with FINESSE I think I should work on that, too.

 

today was much better! I was able to get up and run. I felt a little nervous about my foot so I did 2 1/2 miles instead of the 3 mile loop, and focused on hitting all the pokestops and filling my bag. I WAS going to go down this very dark trail in the park to stick some pokemons into gyms but a police car crept up behind me as I was running down the street to the park and being that the park is closed until sunrise, I decided to skip and continued on my run. Didn't want to add "#5 had to have an awkward conversation with a cop when I went into a park after hours" to my list of calamity.

 

still haven't looked at the motorcycle, still expecting the very worst (aka it's broken forever). I'm doing some google searches to find out what is considered "high mileage" for my bike and people are saying that 1/2 the miles as I have is high?!

 

ALSO yesterday I was talking to my husband about the foot injury and the positive outcome of my chiropractic adjustment, and we had this conversation (backstory I have a bone on my right ankle that sticks out further than the same bone in my left ankle):

DOMS is a better indicator of NEW THINGS than challenge. I promise! It does not mean you haven't been challenging yourself, just that you haven't been doing these movements. BUT USING THE FIRE UNDER YOUR BUTT IS ALWAYS A GOOD PLAN. <3

Hi!
It's been a week.
Tuesday / tkd went fine, and Wednesday I didn't do anything except do the 200 mile round trip to the office north of me. I got home at 8, super tired.

This morning I did a 20 min yoga and then drove SOUTH 90 miles for meetings. Then back north and I ended up at tkd.

My weird foot pain came back yesterday, I think it has a lot to do with the driving... so I'm trying to do better with stretching. I have a foot/leg massage scheduled for tomorrow, I hope it heals me (no pun intended!)

I have been doing pretty good with food, but I haven't figured anything out yet. Eh! Tomorrow is Friday, that's such welcome news.

I did a silly thing and made a picture illustrating The Natural Range of a KarinaJean. At any given time during the week I will travel within this area.

You're doing great! A day with yoga and martial arts in it sounds like a day well spent.

 

I hope your foot is better. How is your bike?

 

I haven't even tried to figure out what's wrong with it.... I really should! but I think I'm afraid to find out it was a stupid thing that I did or didn't do that wrecked it.

I'll do it this weekend, though.

thank you! it's a 30 minute reflexology massage and I'm going to ask her to focus on my feet and calves.  I think they could really use some attention.

it is I.

 

I'm struggling with doing things. partly because I'm tired and feeling overwhelmed at work - there was a lot going on with the end of our fiscal year. I had to do an end of year evaluation of myself (I did pretty good but of course I can think of lots of ways I can do better). I haven't been running tho I have been going to tkd. I drank a lot this weekend. SO WHAT IS GOING ON.

 

I'm popping in to say hi and look at some threads but also to write down my goals and then put them into my hobobujo because I need to start SOMEWHERE, and not looking at my goals frequently is obviously not working with respect to me actually DOING THINGS. oy!

 

also I am collecting shiny things and bought a subscription to doyogawithme.com because the price is going up at the end of the month and I have really appreciated the free stuff I've gotten from them for over 1 1/2 years so I'm giving back a little. and now I'm like: OH MAYBE I SHOULD DO A YOGA CHALLENGE!!! but really what I should do is SOMETHING THAT I WROTE DOWN THAT IS A GOAL. ANYTHING. JUST DO A THING.

 

ok! goals jot, then read a bit, then bedtime so maybe tomorrow am I am not a wreck and can do something.
