Maigahane Clings to Her Sanity

Maigs

Recommended Posts

Hopefully this is the last challenge for a while where I feel like I might go insane. By the end of this challenge we should be done with our audit at work and life can go back to normal for a bit. Hopefully I'll do a good enough job this year of training the other accountants and writing procedures that next year won't be so bad. Maybe I can start doing actual challenge themes after this one :P

Anyway, this challenge I'm not really going to track anything but here are my goals

Lifting - I want to do strength training at least 3 times a week, preferably 4. I meet with the trainer Wednesday to get my next 6 week workout plan and can figure out my schedule once I get that

Running - Keep running my super slow 5ks on the dreadmill. I'll go into it more later but next year is already looking like an even crazier year for events than this year was and I want to not suck at the running part. Shooting for 3 runs a week

Eating - Keep working on improving my diet. Aiming for 1600-1800cals/day of good, real foods.

Ranting and raving will likely still happen for a bit. Bear (bare?) with me for a while

Events

"Hello, my name is Maigs and I have a problem"

This morning I posted my obligatory event picture on Facebook with the note "Final event for 2017 done"....then immediately signed up for another one. So now I'm doing a 5k run Saturday where I get a tshirt and a doughnut :)

And then I researched events for next year. So far on my list (in addition to anything I ran this year which I'll be doing most if not all of again) are:
Warrior Dash 5k in July (already signed up)

Rugged Maniac 5k in September (already signed up)

Empyrean 10k trail run in January (did this as a 5k last year)

Mud Factor 5k OCR in June

Conquer the Gauntlet in either July or August (traveling either way)

Hammer Race whenever they announce 2018 dates

Beer & Bagels Squatchy Challenge (trail runs; half marathon Saturday, 4 miler Sunday) in November

Spartan Trifecta, no idea when I'll do these yet, need to research more

Insane Inflatable 5k whenever they come back to my state

Savage Race? Maybe. There's no 2018 dates posted yet and it will depend on how far away they are

Plus like 15 others that I considered this year that I will probably sign up for if they do them again but they haven't announced dates yet.

Lol. Only a little less expensive though. I added up how much I spent for registrations and it was a bit of a shock. $675 for my 2017 events. Yes, I paid $675 to run 46 miles, 30 of them in the mud. No, I'm not crazy, I promise. That number does include DH's fee for the Warrior Dash and my bro's fee for the Rugged Maniac but no extras like parking at a couple or my hotel last weekend. That's probably going to be more than I pay in electricity for the year....

Maybe I should take that column out of my spreadsheet so I don't make myself sad

Whoop! Whoop! Here for Hammer Race training.

Welcome!

That brings up a good question though: is there anything I should work on in addition to normal OCR training for the Hammer Race?

Crap! I also remembered that I want to do at least a Half Century bike ride next year too. Off to go research those....

Also remembered that my registration costs do NOT include the biking events I did, just the running ones

I would say no. As far as obstacles go there isn't any monkey bar type stuff. Besides the terrain, carries, drags, hammering, crawls, and walls make up the obstacles.@EricMN would be the one to ask though as he does OCR training and has done the Hammer Race.

Biking :)

Week Zero - Monday

Lifting - Rest Day

Running - I went to the gym to grind out an easy 5k on the dreadmill. I did it at 4.8mph (12:30 minute/mile) and it actually felt really good

Eating - I stuck to my goals on this one. PB&J oatmeal for breakfast, leftover ramen for lunch, homemade curry for dinner, grapes and a spoonful of peanutbutter for a snack. 1700cals

Hubs is trying to make me lose the last bit of my sanity. The host of the Saturday gaming group that I dropped out of is busy this weekend so we're hosting two of the guys for a board game night instead. Then he just sprung on me that he's doing his monthly board game night on Sunday. It's normally the last Sunday of the month but he though next week would be too close to Halloween. I have no problems hosting any of these, I like all the people but back-to-back is a bit much for me. So this weekend I have a 5k, two board game nights, two lifting sessions, and I should probably come into work for a few hours.

Luckily sleep is something I don't struggle with. We're boring old people who are in bed by 10pm at the latest. Some days we have to force ourselves to wait until after 8pm to go to bed :D

YOU"RE NOT HELPING!

Speaking of more races - It looks like the Tough Mudder I did last weekend is going to move next year.... over two hours further east. 4.5 hours each way was pushing reasonableness. 7 hours is probably too much. If I decide to do that one or another one that's about 8 hours away by tomorrow I can sign up for $95. I'd love to do it again but that's probably going to be too far to justify

Week Zero - Tuesday

Lifting - Shoulders. I didn't try to raise any of the weights since it's so soon after the Tough Mudder and I'm getting a new workout plan tonight. I definitely felt it when I was drying my hair this morning though

Running - Rest Day

Eating - On point. Breakfast - PB&J oatmeal; Lunch - leftover curry; Dinner - rice and cranberry stuff acorn squash; Snacks - fun sized twix, blueberries, and a spoonful of peanut butter. 1550cals

That is a bit far for a race. I don't tend to go more than 2.5 hours away for a race, unless it's something/somewhere extra special and I can make a long weekend of it. $95 seems like a lot for an early bird price too.

If it were the only one I traveled for it might not be so bad but I'm going for earning my Spartan Trifecta next year and all three races will involve traveling. Oh, and the Hammer Race is a 6 hour drive

The normal price right now is $110 (+ fees) so it's a little bit of a discount but not enough to make me jump on it while I'm unsure. I paid $150 for this year's race after fees and I bought really far in advance
