Jedi-Ranger Trains Like an lllyrian

Hi friends! So I'm rereading my FAVORITE book series. (one of many). It's called A Court of Thorns and Roses, if you haven't read it. I highly recommend it!

 

Last challenge went fairly well. It was my first successful challenge in months, and I finally feel like I might be accomplishing something at last. My life is getting another series of changes with my husband's new job, and I want to weather the transition as successfully as possible with similar goals to last month. The style of goals work really well, and I like looking at it in a retrospective manner. And also looking at it as a percentage instead of just numbers.

 

So this is ACOTAR themed. ACOTAR is the story of a human girl named Feyre who gets entwined in the magical Faerie world of Prythian after accidentally killing a Faerie in the shape of a wolf. The novels loosely follow several different fairy tales. The first is a mix of Beauty and the Beast and East of the Sun, West of the Moon. The second (A Court of Mist and Fury) is very like Hades and Persephone. I don't think there was a story equivalent for the last book though (A Court of Wings and Ruin).

 

But what I'm going to do is channel some of the characters in this series to work towards my goals. 

 

Goal 1- Work Out 2x/week

Characters- Cassian, Feyre

 

Cassian

"Cassian might have been cocky grins and vulgarity most of the time, but in the sparring ring in a rock-carved courtyard atop the House of Wind the next afternoon, he was a stone-cold killer." -Feyre, ACOMAF

Cassian is the epitome of badass. Like for real. He's of a faerie species called Illyrians. They're powerful fighters, and Cass is one of the best. He's the General of the High Lord of the Night Court and one of the most well known warriors in Prythian.

 

My goal is to channel some of Cassian's badassery as I work out, as well as some of his strength. He's also the Fighting Mentor of the series for Feyre and also for me this challenge. 

 

Feyre

Feyre is the main character. She's a model of determination and strength. In the scene mentioned above, she's being trained by Cassian.

 

Channeling Feyre is my ultimate goal. She's strong mentally and physically. And it wasn't just there, she learned her strength. She is confident in herself and her choices, but she still makes mistakes and has bad days. She's real.

 

Goal 2- Stretch 3x/week

Characters- Azriel

 

Azriel

Azriel is the Night Court's Spymaster. He is also an Illyrian, and trained like one. However, he has less of Cassian's brute strength and more cunning. He's physically and mentally flexible. 

 

I'm channeling Azriel's flexibility and strength to improve my stretching. 

 

Goal 3- Cook dinner 2x/week

Characters- Rhysand

 

Rhysand

Rhysand, or Rhys, is the High Lord of the Night Court. He has known pain and suffering, and yet has strength and a sense of humor still through everything. He has many kinds of strength, and is the most powerful of his people- basically ever.

 

I'm going to channel Rhys in my self care because of how he took care of Feyre. He was always going out of his way to take care of her, help her, and give her the space she needed to heal. If you want a mental/physical/emotional health coach, Rhys is the one you want.

 

So that's my challenge!

 

I'm going to end on my favorite quote- from a character called Morrigan.

That sounds like a really cool series! I love books about faeries... I may have to check that out.

Oh. Em. Geee. You must read it. It's probably one of my favorite series ever, the author is fabulous. The first one is called A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. I 2000% recommend it to anyone, especially fans of faeries.

Alright, so ya'll may wanna buckle in because I've got a SUPER long update.

 

Okay, so I dunno if I mentioned it, but Mr. Right had a MAJOR allergic reaction to (we think) the TB test he needed to start his new job Monday. He probs should have gone to the hospital, but he doesn't have health insurance quite yet (he filled in the paperwork Tuesday) and it was gonna have to be life or death for him to go to the hospital b/c otherwise we'd have been so far in debt that we wouldn't know what to do with ourselves. He was like 2 steps away from anaphylaxis. Swollen face, hives everywhere, felt like utter crap, the whole nine yards. So the past several days on my BuJo Mood tracker have been the bright, anxious yellow. 

 

So I haven't been working out because my anxiety made me so. tired. Combined that with taking care of basically everything while he was sick and it was kinda rough. So I'm recuperating a little bit still. Yesterday was the first day I felt comfortable relaxing because he seriously seemed perfectly okay.

 

And then something else sort of happened.

 

Mr. Right got his new work schedule. I knew he was going to be on a different schedule than me, but I was kind of avoiding the thought because there wasn't anything I could do about it. I've been a little spoiled because he's been mostly on the exact same schedule as me. Working earlier and getting back earlier. But now he's going to be working every other weekend. All of his shifts are 12hr shifts(5:30am-5:30pm). But he did get the day shift which means he won't be living the night shift life for the next several months. So that's good. I don't really know how I'm going to cope with those weekends by myself. Part of me is thinking that it's a good thing because I think everyone needs some time in their life to be alone. But sometimes I struggle being alone. I'm really hoping it doesn't cause me difficulty to be alone so much- though it'll be good for me making sure I can get everything done (including working out).

 

So yeah, that's me. I'm basically taking zero week as a rest week to keep myself together.

So this week went weird. I realized that I was in a super weird restrictive mindset where I was just eating whatever. It's a stress thing I think. I'm trying to pull myself out of it. 

 

Today I'm going to go to the gym and I'm kinda excited since I missed a week, but I really needed the break at the time. I'm better off now.

I agree, gym tired is the most productive sort of tired I think. 

 

And yeah, that's why I always seem to go back to doing strength training- I'm more likely to want to go!

So yesterday/last night I did some soul searching and I was trying to post from Tapatalk but it wouldn't cope with my copy paste from my notes app. So I'm putting it in a spoiler here.

I'm sitting here on the bathroom floor with a sheet mask on just.. thinking.

I didn't eat the way I wanted to today. At least tonight. And it's highly upsetting me. But I'm trying to think through it and keep out of my downward facing thoughts.

I was starving at dinner and ate more than I'd planned but it was because I ate something different- something I felt like eating. If I'd just eaten more pot pie I dunno if I'd still feel bad. It's weird. But the hash browns made me feel like a horrible person because they didn't feel worth it. They weren't as tasty as I'd imagined. I knew i was looking for something specific but I didn't know what that could be. I tried a few things but nothing seemed right. I still haven't found the thing my brain is hungry for but if I eat too much more then I'll feel too full. It's so silly. 

I'm actually starting too wonder if I'm feeling weird because my cycle should be coming around to shark week. 

I decided to do a facial mask to remind myself to be kind to my body at all points. I'm actually trying to cone up with a mantra or something that can remind me when I want to hate my body. 

Sorry for the rant you guys. 

 

So there's that. I'm feeling better today. And the weather is nice and chilly and all of a sudden I'm thinking about Christmas :) (I'm not listening to Christmas music IDK what you're talking about). I'm thinking about how much fun it's going to be to put my very own tree up <3 This will be my first Christmas away from my parents, which will be weird. But I'm kind of excited. My husband and I have talked about a couple of traditions that we want to start for Christmas, including Christmas cookies for First Responders on Christmas Day :) As it's an important part of our little family, it's very important to us to show appreciation for them.

I think we've all been in that place.   It's super frustrating, but I am so glad you slowed down and did something to be kind to yourself.  That's a great plan of attack for those moments.   Glad too you are feeling better today. :)

 

That tradition sounds awesome!    It's super sweet and inspiring.  I kind of want to do that too!  But I know I will get wrapped up in the whirlwind leading up to Christmas and forget heh.

My husband's dream job if you will is to be a law enforcement officer. He's done and is doing corrections, but he wants to be out on the road eventually. These people give so much of themselves. And having that kind of tradition will be good for when we have kids because we both want them to be more focused on the giving aspect of Christmas than the getting :)

Gym tired is good tired usually.

 

And yeah I never get all "OMG CHRISTMAS" for assorted reasons even though it's one of my favorite holidays. That was abnormal but kinda nice.

So I did NOT want to go to the gym last night. But I did. I was not happy, and I did not feel better afterwards, but long term I feel better for having not put it off. I was just overall grumpy and in a bad mood last night. But today it's nice and fall/chilly. I'm so ready for it to be cool constantly and not keep getting warm randomly.

So today I'm in a completely empty house for more than an hour or two for the first time in... Geeze I don't even know how long. My old roommates were gone for beach week both years so maybe that was the last time I've had a house to myself for any amount of time. It's super weird but I've gotta keep myself busy so I don't get lonely and bored. 

 

So far my plans for today include going to the gym and setting up my November Bullet Journal. My husband told me that I shouldn't spend my first day to myself in a long time cleaning the house, so I'm going to do a little of that tomorrow. I might do a little bit today as well. I also want to wash my makeup brushes finally >_> I also think I'll call my mom :)

 

~~So I forgot to post this and I went and called my mom. I had a super good talk with her that kinda helped clear the air about some things. Details in the spoiler if you're interested haha

Now so that you guys know, me and my mom have had some issues in the past. She's always pushed me to "get healthy" and it was kinda hurtful. To me it's always come across as "you're not good enough." Which has been helped along by the fact that she's said some hurtful things about my size and weight when she's angry about other things. Which I'm never going to count as right, but looking back most of the time there was obvious and serious stress during those times of her life. So I can at least understand, forgive, and move past it. 

 

Now my mom and I talked a bit about how she was worried about me and my health. She explained a little bit better why. So my great aunt, her aunt, had a thyroid disorder that was undiagnosed for 50+ years. She was extremely overweight and there wasn't anything she could do about it no matter what they tried. They finally fixed the thyroid issue but too late. She lost a bunch of weight but she now can't walk anymore because her joints (a family issue on that side) just won't work anymore. Health problems run rampant on that side of the family.

 

And my father's genetics defined my build. My dad's sister is built a lot like me- all hips, thighs, and butt with proportional top. 

 

So I finally told her about the intuitive eating. I didn't tell her about my binge eating or about my problems with food, but I told her that I was teaching myself how to eat like a normal person. Like a reasonable person. From there I can figure more out. And I told her about my support here on the forums. And how I've been working out more. She seemed to feel better about the fact that I was trying to improve my overall health. I think that her biggest worry was that I was just ignoring my health and doing whatever I want. But really, I'm just trying to be better about being who I need to be and being healthy while still loving myself.

Ooh, alone is weird for me too, it doesn't happen often. But, it's not unpleasant if you have things to fill your day with. How did your day go? [emoji4]
 
I'm glad you were able to talk to your mom, I know these issues have been gnawing at you for a while. *hug*
It went well :) I got my Bujo done, played Skyrim, cleaned my makeup brushes, went to the gym, and made dinner.

And yeeeaaahhh. It's somewhat better now and I'm glad. I still haven't told her about all of my food issues but if she can keep her comments respectful and health-centric, I don't think I will. Right now I think telling her will hurt her for no purpose.
