I had a bit of a bad time last challenge. A month ago I broke my finger on an obstacle course and then got a really bad cold a week later. The challenge wrapped up with a half marathon that didn't go as planned and left me with very sore glutes that haven't quite recovered yet.

 

This challenge is going to be an easy, fun challenge based around recovery, rehab and musical numbers - mostly from Crazy Ex Girlfriend.

 

1. I'm So Good At Yoga

 

 

Pretty basic goal, lots of yoga and stretching and rehab for my finger. I have a physio appointment for my finger at the end of week 1 which with hopefully be when the splint comes off permanently. Part of this goal may change depending on what the physio says.

i) Yoga at least 2 times a week

ii) Stretch for 10 minutes every day

iii) Do finger rehab exercises every 2 hours - subject to change after next physio appt

 

2. Greg's Drinking Song

 

OK, so I'm not as bad as Greg! But I had quite a few weekends where the beer / spirits / bubbly wine got a little out of control so I want to reign in my drinking this challenge. This challenge ends on the day of my brother's wedding, so I will be drinking then!

i) Only 1 alcoholic beverage per week

 

This won't only be a challenge for drinking, I also want to be more mindful about my food, especially snacking. As my exercise is really limited at the moment, I'm a little conscious about my weight. I've brought a fitted dress for my brother's wedding, and I don't want to be spilling out of it! 

ii) Avoid the treat table at work

iii) Only 2 "treats" per week (biscuits/cookies, cakes, puddings etc)

 

3. Running and other exercise

couldn't find a running themed song, so have one about ping pong instead

 

GOAL TO BE DECIDED

It's only been 2 days since my half marathon and walking is causing me issues! So right now, I don't know when I'm going to be able to run regularly. I'm supposed to have a 15km trail run on the 21st October, but I'm not 100% sure I'm going to be fit enough to do it. I hope I can, because it should be a fun run!

I hope you are in good shape for it! It's going to be a fun easy run on the trails coupled with some nice walks up hill :P following of course!

So do I! I walked to the station this morning and by the time I got there my glutes were screaming at me and I was so looking forward to sitting down on the train. Then I found out the line was suspended and I had to walk all the way home again! It wasn't fun!

B is bringing Amber the dog, so I may take the pup on the running lead and let her pull me up the hill! That only works if B is in front of me though, if she's behind Amber will just pull me back down the hill so she can be near her mum!

I'm starting to think I'm the only person that watches this! It's so funny but it can also be painfully tragic. It deals a lot with mental illness but unlike a lot of comedy shows, it does it in a sensitive, honest way.

Week Zero - Tuesday

 

I'm So Good at Yoga:

Yoga - 1/2

Daily Stretching - Yoga and short stretch in the morning

Finger Rehab - daily exercises done

 

I did a 25 minute hip and leg deep stretch yoga video. It was a little intense and a bit too advanced for me so I won't be doing that one again for a while.

 

Greg's Drinking Song

Food has been good today. Had porridge for lunch and a homemade chicken soup for lunch. I've just polished off a bowl of homemade chilli. Today was easy, I was working from home so no snacks around to tempt me. It will be harder tomorrow when I'm back in the office and sitting right next to the big box of chocolate bars the boss brought last week.

No beer so far. 

 

Running etc:

I want to attempt a short run tomorrow, but I'm not sure I'm quite ready yet.

Put aside a weekend to binge watch it. The first 2 seasons are on Netflix and a new episode of season 3 drops every Saturday. 

 

You may be walking like that, but you'll be feeling so much pride in yourself you won't care. I'm so excited for you!

I did! I caught up on Electric Dreams and then went to bed! If the drinks weren't just sitting there, I wouldn't even think about it. I've only got 3 small cans of Brew Dog left, so if I have one this weekend and Stu has 2 that will solve that problem.

Damn, you aren't clowning around. I'm gonna try to keep this up with ya, this week should work out, one beer tonight, nothing on the weekend. So should be okay, still i left a little more leeway by saying only one drinking day each week (not limiting the amount of beverages).

Well in my case, beer! My issue is that if I have one beer, I instantly want another so restricting to one is better for me. If I don't have any beer I'm fine, but there is something about that first beer......

Week Zero - Wednesday

1. I'm so Good at Yoga

i) Yoga 1/2

ii) Stretch for 10 minutes every day

DONE. Did a lot of stretching and foam rolling yesterday. I even used the evil massage stick! That thing is worse than the foam roller. But it seems to be working, I still can't run (tried yesterday and the pain was a bit too much) but I can walk like a normal human being now! Progress! 

iii) Do finger rehab exercises every 2 hours

DONE. I'm noticing a lot of improvement in the mobility of my finger which is excellent.

 

And I have other good news. I can do push ups again! I can only do them with my hands elevated at the moment with most of the pressure on my palms, but that's better than nothing. So I'm going to work an easy bodyweight session back into my routine from next week.

Still on zero. I know that I get a bottle of ale after Maverick Race on Saturday, so I'm saving my drinking for then!

ii) Avoid the treat table at work

Again, no treats consumed from the treat box. My boss keeps throwing chocolate bars at me when he takes one for himself so I've been throwing them back!

iii) Only 2 "treats" per week (biscuits/cookies, cakes, puddings etc)

Not had any treats at home either. I've been getting the urge for sweet things after dinner, but we haven't been food shopping this week, so there actually isn't a lot in the house for me to snack on anyway! The weekend will be the real test as that's when I tend to go overboard.

 

3. Running and other exercise

Nothing yet. I think my first run is going to end up being Maverick Race on Saturday! I hate recovery!
