Intermission II - New Home, New Routines

Big_Show

Recommended Posts

I now live with a boy.

Last weekend I moved in with the Welshman. We won't have broadband until the middle of next week though, so this challenge will mainly be written & updated via Tapatalk, hence the brevity.

I have no situational triggers in this house yet, plus living with someone makes me more accountable for my bad habits. My main aim is to shift some timber and get back into race shape, so my quests are simple:

1) DAILY YOGA

2) Healthy food - only 1 takeaway per week, no snacking at work, only drinking in the house once per week

3) Consistent training - gradually rebuild running base and carry on lifting.

Life quest also writes itself - unpack the house and make it into our home! We are having people stay over on 11th November so that's our deadline to have everything either fully unpacked or else stored properly in the garage.

Regular updates to follow!

Today's update:

1) I yoga-ed. Squat Mobility mini-session as a way of easing back into it.

2) I ate well - small snack on the way home as I was genuinely hungry and about to go food shopping, which is a dangerous combo.

For dinner tonight we had the rest of the Instant Pot lamb stew I made on Sunday, along with a buttered roll too. Tasted lovely - I suspect this simple recipe shall become one of our staples.

3) No training yet, but I did swap my work bag for a fully-stocked gym bag. Now I can go on the way home whenever I want (I walk past it anyway so it's not exactly a detour).

LQ) Emptied a suitcase, a bag, two boxes of comics, rearranged the conservatory/dining room a bit, emptied a drawer left full of random crap by the previous tenants, as well as the regular weekday adulting activities that crop up. Now chilling with a wee dram of scotch before bed as a nightcap because that's not what my "no drinking" was aimed at - that's more the bottle or two of wine, or several beers/ciders.

Looking forward to the gym tomorrow. And also the pork chops I marinaded in BBQ seasoning this evening in preparation!

So I'm gonna ask the real question here.
How does the Welshman refer to you on his online communities?

Mr. Big. Obviously.

I couldn't possibly comment [emoji41]
Following, i am 2 months into unpacking, i can relate.
The struggle is real! Especially when Rangerbrain makes me want to unpack something else as soon as I open one box!

Tonight will be a good night. Making us a nice dinner of BBQ marinaded pork chops with mashed potatoes and green beans, a few glasses of wine (this is that 1 day this week I allow for), and once my To Do list is finished I get to unpack my books! [emoji7]

Yesterday was a good day - eating was on point at work all day, and then I hit the gym on the way home for the first time.

Bench press, flyes, seated DB press, then a 10min circuit of 250m row, 20 air squats, 15 sit-ups, 10 press-ups, 5 bent-over rows. Always a killer.

Then date night in the new house! BBQ pork chops, mashed potato, green beans, some red wine. Good times.

Also unpacked another two boxes and rearranged the ones in the games room so I can start unpacking that tonight too!

Not much to add today - no training as I had to go clean my old flat. I have amassed 19.5k steps over the course of the day though, so that's gotta help matters.

I snacked a bit after work... [emoji19] My excuse was that the Welshman was cooking (first time he's ever cooked for me!) and it wouldn't be ready for ages, but I could have at least made better choices. Even if dinner wasn't served until 9pm...

Unpacked a box in the games room. We now have a functioning Xbox One and a SNES plumbed in too. Things are taking shape!

Yesterday went well! Hit the gym after work for a short workout:
- squats (deloaded, not done them in aaaaaages...)
- superset assisted pull-ups/dips
- seated cable rows

Was originally supposed to finish that off with my 10min AMRAP circuit but I decided to give it a miss as 1) my left achilles has been playing up, and 2) it was Friday nighy and I was knackered. I got the main lifts done so that's what really mattered.

I had the house to myself for most of the evening, so I took wine & a book into the bath for some relaxation, then spent most of the evening on the sofa reading more. A pizza also happened - Friday night takeaway is a weekly treat to look forward to! The shop near our new house is very good too, so it was a quality treat as well.

Time for some weekend!

It has been a good, and busy, weekend!

Popped out for a run first thing Saturday morning; just a short one as my everything is stil very tight. 3M at around 8:00/mile pace apparently.

Then a day of shopping, more unpacking, and furniture shopping. Followed by wine, Bolognese, and sofa time.

Sunday my sister & my niece came to visit and we popped out for lunch, then I hit the gym.

Deadlifts, flyes, seated DB press, and burpees to finish.

Then got my adulting done, unpacked my last box, and attempted to make toad in the hole. Which didn't work out too well, but I know what to do next time now. The roasted butternut squash and brussel sprouts worked out well though!

Week 1 begins now. Got to keep at it hard!

...AAAAAAND Monday was a write-off.

Slept like sh*te, managing to catch and annoying cough/cold that left me with a woolly head al day, my achilles is still sore, the boiler broke so we have no hot water, and after going to get the last of the stuff from the Welshman's flat the car battery went flat so we had to wait an hour for the rescue truck to tuen up and jump-start it.

So I had pizza, a whisky, and went to bed.

Tuesday will be better. I slept better, head is clearer, and tonight I get to go gym. And shower properly.

Yesterday went well, on the whole.

My eating wasn't the best. Somebody bought in cakes for their birthday, and throughout the day I had two mini-muffins (which were frankly sub-par, so I don't know why I had the second) and a chocolate doughnut (which was actually genuinely delicious). I also had a bag of crisps at lunchtime.

This appears to be my usual "just the one"-ism kicking in. Time to nip that in the bud!

Gym after work went well:
- bench press
- seated cable row
- supserset assisted pull-ups/dips
- 5x3 burpees
- lying leg raises

I'm building myself a circuit at the end of my workouts; next time it'll be 5x4 burpees, then 5x5, then I'll gradually add in reps of another exercise too (any suggestions?), until I've got a circuit to finish it all off.
