Monday Attack against the Terrasque!

Pull Ups: 5, 5, 4, 4, 3

Squats  DB Lunges: 20# x 8 (each leg) x 5 sets.   Focused on form and keeping everything tight and steady.

Bench Press: 1 x 5 x 85,  4 x 5 x 100   Really struggled on last rep of each set, last rep of final set was desperation to not die under the bar if I let it go.

Lying Leg Raises: 2 x 15, 3 x 10

Bent Over Row: 1 x 5 x 75, 4 x 5 x 80

High Hold/Negative:  35"   (Surprising, since I did all those pull ups and rows before it.)

I will do a weekly update shortly.

Thanks Obax.    I am terrible at breathing.  I just don't do it right.   This is also, why I think I suck so hard at running!         The knees outward thing I am less worried about because, during my MCL rehab, my PT did this exact thing!  In fact, her methods to get me to do what I needed on squats were banded squats to keep knees out, - those spiderman squats as well, and she also had me put my toes up on a half-roller to force my glutes to work.    Basically, my body wants to accomplish everything with quads and biceps haha.     I should probably try to fix one thing at a time... dunno if that's core or glutes... but thanks for these breakdowns.  Dang girl, you should be a trainer!

For breathing during running, everyone has to find their own rhythm, but it's amazing the difference it makes when your breathing is in time with your stride. This seems to come more or less naturally for me, so I can't really say how I developed it, but I will say I really notice when it's out of sync (I was rowing on the machine the other day and everything was all out of sync and I had no endurance and no strength and it was just all around terrible, it honestly felt like I was going to hyperventilate). For me, for a steady pace, like I'd do for a 5k, I inhale over 2 steps and exhale over 2 steps. For a faster pace, a full inhale/exhale cycle takes 3 steps. When I all-out sprint, it all goes to hell and I mostly just try to not fall over.... Next time you run, give it a try. Literally count it out in your head. For example, if I'm focusing on my breathing I say (in my head, because usually I can't breathe enough for actual words) with each step 'In, in. Out, out. In, in. Out, out' (each word is a foot strike), and obviously breathe along with that. It'll probably feel a bit weird at first, but when you find your rhythm it'll just click and feel very natural.

For the squats, try the breathing/core first. As you say, you've worked on glutes before, and in your video it didn't look much like that aspect was out of whack, I only mentioned it because it was a side shot and it's harder to see. You'll be amazed at the difference core bracing will make, I do it for pretty much every strength exercise and it still amazes me. For example, I did some pushups yesterday, and really focused on bracing my core and they felt so much more powerful than usual. Rather than a struggle to keep my body from wiggling it's way upwards, I could really feel the transfer of force through my body. It'll take some getting used to, I find that it usually results in breathing harder after all your reps than you'd expect, and I sometimes get a little dizzy (it's apparently not uncommon if you have naturally lower-than-average blood pressure, which I do), but again, once you find your rhythm it'll feel really good and natural.

And as for the comment about being a trainer, you make me blush a bit. I actually think I'd really enjoy doing that, I may just put it on the 'someday' list (I don't know how realistic it'd be to do it professionally, but I can definitely see myself pursuing education in that area, for my own information if nothing else).

Oh gosh, a really pathetic, half-assed Week 3 Update because .... LIFE!!!111ONEONE!!

Lmy5P.gif?noredirect

Week 3!

FOOD - As per usual, 4 near perfect days, 3 days untracked and out of control.   Consistency, this does not make.

Lifting - This one deserves a gold star.   I got a wonky knee thing going on, but I still managed 3 lifts!   Albeit, adjusted to not exasperate things.

Running Miles - No easy way around this one... I got 1 run in (3 miles) then knee went buggers.   Nothing on the other run day, but I did hockey, so 2 move days.

Art - Four days of arting done, and I have all four portraits finished for my game.    I am going to use them as IN game paintings and have them find these portraits in the ruined library!  GASP!

Other non tracked here goals.

I FLOSSED all 7 days!

I put 5 days of good glasses-wearing time in.

I BuJo'd all 7 days!

And I read my book twice.

Brain vomit on recent fears and anxiety... grumble.

Spoiler

In other other news, I've been fighting big attacks of Fear lately.   Anxiety, panic... it could be pre-trip excitement/jiters combined with shark week.  (Great timing that.)   It could be that we're mostly winging this trip and have no activities planned (not a big deal, we stay at my dad's house... I think I am already worried about being bored though.)   Or it could be that I am getting really bad about staying in a comfort zone.   Whatever the reason, the fear and brain-stories are running rampant and I really need it to stop doing that.    I told my sister I had major heebie jeebies last night about everything related to the trip, and she said she did too!   That spooked me even more... but then as I was packing up my duffel, I sort of loosely prayed about it, and heard immediately, "Fear does not come from God."    He would not instill this kind of fear and panic in us; IF he was telling us not to go, it would come with peace.     I felt a bit better after that, and then this morning too was decent (sun was out) - soon as the clouds came back, that overwhelming anxiety started to sink back in... I've often wondered about my having S.A.D... but is anxiety part of that?   I thought it was just the blahs?

I am getting really bad about staying in a comfort zone.

This.  This is the crux of the situation.  The comfort zone is a killer.  You're a lion! Practice somehow, some way, kill the comfort zone EVERY DAMN DAY!  Even if it's just "I'll get skim milk instead of 2% milk on my cereal this morning".

KILL THE COMFORT ZONE!!!!

Oi, this challenge is feeling like a balloon that was filled up but never tied... then released!

latest?cb=20121207003200

Food has ... well that's a bad story.   I think I am just doing my best to keep ahead of things and make sure I'm ready for my trip on Friday.

It was supposed to be a lift day, but I got a stomach gurgle this morning that did not want to be bothered.

I will lift tomorrow... and kill that Terrasque!

I did do a bunch of art while laundrying tonight, so I finished this random shy mage chick.

I am going to relax on my trip, but also try to keep up with not being a dweeb! :P

As she pushed herself harder and harder, the sweat pouring down her brow and occasionally clouding her vision, the rogue known as Starpuck kept attacking the Terrasque with ruthless efficiency. Worn down and tired, she wondered if she would even be able to defeat the monster in time.  After all, this was a world killer.  Her breath coming in gasps, muscles aching with every strike, and her armor riddled with scrapes, cuts, and holes from fending off the attacks of this mighty beast, she wondered if she would die fighting this seemingly impossible foe.

Having no idea how long the battle had lasted, she knew only that every second she delayed and every small bit of damage she inflicted would save countless innocent lives. Her attacks, though many and powerful by her standards, didn't seem to be inflicting enough damage to sway the creature from its rampage. More times than she could count, she felt the slash of its claws against her skin; the horrid smell of its breath haunting her nostrils; its gargantuan size threatening to scare her into submission.

More than once she thought about giving up.  Surely she'd done enough damage, someone else could land the killing blow. Perhaps Vox Machina would show up in Whitestone and defeat the beast after all. But even through her wavering thoughts, her iron will and desire to win kept her going. When her muscles threatened to burst and she thought she might pass out from exhaustion, somehow she reached a reserve and kept fighting.

If came time when she was nearing what she knew would be even the end of her reserves.  Hoping against hope for a miracle, sweat pouring down her face, hair matted to her armor and barely able to lift her arms against the seemingly unstoppable beast, with the last of her willpower she jumped upon the back of the beast, standing several stories above the surrounding countryside, she could see for miles.  Briefly, she stopped to ponder such a pristine view, and her gaze fell on a small group of people just coming over a low rise. She saw, to her dismay, Vox Machina! Still too far off to even cast spells, they were running forward to help as fast as they could.  Seeing Vex flying on her broom, Grog taking massive steps as his rage kicked in, Keyleth shifting into her beloved Minxie form, Scanlan meandering forward almost whimsically, Pike being carried by Grog, and Percy getting Bad News out in preparation for a shot, she felt renewed power in her abilities.

Leaping forward off the Terrasque's back, the deftly flipped a dagger to reverse her grip and dug it deep into the beast's massive neck and using it to slide down, cutting a swath through the beast that left blood gushing out and covering her already dirty form.

Even as she landed after her leap, she could sense the beast wavering and, looking back, realized that its eyes had closed and it was falling forward!  Once more, Starpuck leapt out of the way as the beast crashed to the ground, dead.

She couldn't believe it! She'd slain the Terrasque by herself, and with the famed heroes of Vox Machina watching the final blow! Looking over at them, she saw wonder, dismay, and pride in their faces, as they each stepped forward to congratulate her on such a monumental achievement.....

I am in Florida all, so I am not sure how well I will manage a full challenge update - it will depend entirely on how much down time we have!

But, I have to say @Oramac - that write up is amazing and I am soooo geeked out about it!    I can't believe how much that project motivated me and encouraged me to get stuff done!   Thank you so much for doing that for me.    You are seriously the best.

I think I might take an actual week off from workouts and stuff.   I am sleeping on an air mattress here, and so I am kind of stiff and sore and crunched up.    Yoga, stretching and walking, but I am not going to worry about getting big strength days in with bodyweight stuff.    :)
