MONDAY DAY 2 PART THE SECOND

I was at work a little late but got in right after my husband did and we made this delicious kale and potato soup.... like, I wish I had this recipe for years already because it was so good. ten thumbs up would eat again:

http://www.thekitchn.com/recipe-simple-kale-potato-soup-weeknight-dinner-recipes-from-the-kitchn-13802

then I did my AMRAP, which is basically:

flexed arm hang, chin at bar and palms toward me: 5 1/2 seconds

push-ups. well. I can do a nice slow push DOWN. but not a good full push-up. I can do about 5 half push-ups but I am going for full range of motion!

WEEK 1 DAY 3 TUESDAY

I meant to get up this morning and run, but it was raining! I didn't expect that! and with the herp on my lip I don't like dripping fluid situations on my face. so I then intended to get up and do yoga, but got derailed by a nice warm bed and then hustled to help my husband get out the door on time. EXCUSES EXCUSES. Tonight I had tkd, and then I did 2 assisted holds on the bar for about 5 seconds each, and 10 counter push-ups where I tried hard to get super deep and keep my elbows tucked in nicely.

In general, I'm feeling pretty crappy today! my head hurts and I am so tired. but I picked up the CSA share, ate a bunch of tiny eggplant with oyster mushrooms and fried eggs over cous cous for dinner, and stopped by an orchard on the way home and got some apples. I have some work that needs doing but I think I am going to go to bed and get up early to deal with it tomorrow.

I hope you got a good night's sleep and are feeling better!

Are you doing other exercises to support the push-up/pull-up goals? (I am thinking a lot about this, as I want to work on arm and upper body strength.)

So how do you shorten her name? Or do you pick one based on current mood? :P

We generally call her Ella - which is actually short for Graciela, which is the name her first family gave her but my husband's grandmother's name was GRACE and we knew his mom wouldn't go for a cat kind of named after her.

of course if she's being extra moody we will call her torturekitty or murderclaws.

I think I should be doing squats and lunges too, just out of reasonable balanced goals. but, no. I was only trying to get started with the two exercises. I THINK that some abs exercises would be helpful too.

today was kinda brutal. I was falling asleep last night, so got up and early got to work on some things, then left the house at 7AM, drove to Utica which is 3 hours away, had site walks with clients, then drove home and stopped for a conf call on the way so I just made it to my chiropractic appt at 5PM and then went back to work for a couple of hours until my husband and Fourteen got home. and they both had work to do (a midterm for one, make-up homework for the other) so I made dinner for everyone and we ate dinner with them working and me reading the weekly rag newspaper. then checking math, and dishwasher, and now bed. BED. firstly though I'll go do 10 counter push-ups and also 2 assisted flex arm hangs. FIRSTLY.

Edit!

I did the things. 10 counter push-ups and assisted flex arm hangs (10s, 6s, then 5s)

Oh and also, my chiropractor recommended eating coconut oil to stop the herp (monolaurin kills it, apparently) so I had a spoon before bed.

I use both, but the stems take longer to cook than the leaves, so I throw the stems in early with things like onions and peppers and the like and leave the leaves for near the end. :D

Ok so what's the point of destemming kale? I typically use both the stem and leaves in my cooking - the stems are tasty and add crunch but maybe I'm missing something?

yeah, all this. the ends can be really tough and woody sometimes, though, I don't always eat the very ends.

WEEK 1 DAY 5 - THURSDAY

Another long day. I had my regular site visit, then the office, and then I was a hair late to TKD which was TRULY EXCELLENT. we were super active for the entire class. then home for leftovers and to throw some clothes and craft stuff together for my weekend away with crafty girlfriends.

WEEK 1 DAY 6 - FRIDAY

yo I woke up at like 2AM worried about a work thing that I have to do first thing today (but involves calling someone in another timezone so it will take EVEN LONGER TO RESOLVE). and I'm so tired. my lip herp is healing but it's still so big and scabby now, and I'm exhausted, and I have a short list of things to do before leaving at 11 or something this morning. oh, and I'm starving. because I've been up for 5 hours already.

re: weekend plans, I'm bringing my hula hoop and yoga mat, and hopefully we will go for a long walk tomorrow. I need to get some stretching in. it's hard to not pack every single aspirational ball of yarn I have this weekend, but legit I'll only be there until sunday afternoon. I'm just bringing 2 in-progress knitting projects and a bag of yarn that I spun, that still needs to be washed and whacked to set the twist. also, I would like to actually draw out my bujo tracker tomorrow.

Ok cool, I started to wonder whether I hadn’t missed something and the stems were actually poisonous or something :P

That’s clever, might have to start doing that myself!

Suddenly knitting sounds quite violent

well, this is spinning. knitting has lots of poky needles and stuff.

when you ply the yarn, if one of your 2 strands (the singles) is more twisted than the other one you won't have a balanced yarn or if you don't counterbalance the twist of the singles with the plyed yarn - it will still have some energy in it. when you finish washing your hank one way to solve this is to whack it against a table or a hard surface to kind of shock the fibers into locking in place a little bit so the energy is muted. if that makes sense! she's whacking stuff at 3 minutes in this video. (I didn't listen to what she's saying, so if she's just swearing a lot, I apologize in advance.) she also does a hot/cold bath to felt the fibers together a little and make them more sticky - I don't do that, I just do a gentle warm wash and rinse.
