Tip toeing but taking that first step

Recommended Posts

So I've been on here for a long time and have tried a few challenges but never manage to complete them. So I'm going to reboot and go all the way back the beginning.

Small goals for the first baby steps

1. 1L of water each and every day

2. One main meal a day that is grain free

3. One day a week that I arrive at work on time and leave on time. I've been working 11 or 12 hour days when I'm only paid for 8 and since I don't get regular days off. I need to cut back on the hours to get the job done. And be nicer to my trainee, he's green but I can't let my exhaustion release my play nice filter.

A little about me: I work to much to have much in the way of hobbies. But when I have time I do enjoy dabbling in wow, board games, audio books, photography, Halloween, Disney, fairy tales, anime, ever after high, sewing, drawing, crafts and food. I live alone in a new town with my two cats for company. It's a pretty solitary life.

These sound like very reasonable and achievable goals. I think many of us can relate to being overworked. There's nothing wrong with working instead of pursuing hobbies if work is what you enjoy or if it's what makes you feel the most productive, useful, etc. It's when the work is draining and unfulfilling that there may be cause for concern. I hope that isn't the case!

The same is true of a solitary lifestyle. If you like not being bothered by too many folks, more power to ya. But if you do feel like you could benefit from a network of folks with similar goals of self-improvement, we're all here to cheer you on! Good luck!

  • Thanks 1

Stay awhile... we're liftin'

Hi! Good goals - kudos on working on a work/life balance.  It can be so hard! My work/life is similar - not much in the way of devoted hobbies due to my career consuming a lot of my time. :) Let us know what you do with those extra hours when you leave on time!

To make sure I take a night off this week, I've booked a Paint Night in another town. I have to leave on time to make it! Haha, I know I wouldn't do it without that.

Hello, I just laughed aloud when reading " I work to much to have much in the way of hobbies ", i feel exactly like that and never know what to answer when asked what i like doing.

Be nice with yourself and follow your goals !

Yeah, I have a long list of things I dabble in but it's a dabble and it was a struggle to come up with the list! I can't answer when asked on the spot either!

It's not exactly work I enjoy but it will lead to the long term goals, and it's a new company that's starting up so things will get better! I hope!!!

As for the solitary, 90% of the time I don't mind it. I do like new friends but I also know that as an introvert I need time to reset on my own.

So yesterday went well with the goals, I actually had a day off so spent the afternoon working on a skirt for halloween and some house cleaning. Water was in and supper was a veg soup so met the grain free.

Tonight's supper was hamburger patty with mushrooms and crisps so grainfree. I just wanted to order pizza so a decent compromise for this first step thing. :) Have not got all of my water in yet, I'm about a cup away from it. I'll get it before the nights out, today I spent changing valves out on a water line so with no water to flush. I didn't want to drink a lot of water.

Love the small goals. How else do you expect to build the foundation for a healthier lifestyle if you don't start from the bottom!

I hope you find more ways to get you out of work on time. :)

I struggle with leaving work on time too. I"m a consultant so our hours are 8-5, which really means like, 8 to whenever you're done UNLESS YOU HAVE A GOOD REASON TO LEAVE. so, I do try to schedule things that I need to do outside of work so I can leave close to regular quitting time, you know?

Hello Kathleen's Adventure!  Welcome (back) to the game!

You three challenge goals look good.  Very clear what you'll be doing.

The only thing missing that I'd like to see is a Main Quest.  What's the bigger picture?  What are you aiming toward that accomplishing these three challenge goals will help achieve?

I recently moved to a small town so I'm struggling to find things to do that don't cost money that would have a time crunch. I'm also working on being debt free. But the scheduling thing sounds like something I desperately need to do!!!

I can't see through the fog enough to figure out the main quest. And considering I know that any direction is the right direction when you don't have a set direction; it's kind of stupid. I'm not a passionate person and had learned early on it was easier to not care what happened that now as an adult. I still struggle with that habit. I have a long list of goals but it's more mild curiosity to see if I can do it and if I can't. Oh well. All my goals this time around are stuff that I know I need to do to make my life better.

Fell of the band wagon. A week ago, I got hauled into the supervisors office (not my boss, I'm split between two companies) and told I was being a bitch and talking down to my trainee and that I shouldn't be working the hours I am. Which is true and those aren't the words that were used but that was the message. I did take last weekend off but it wasn't enough to fully reset. Did well until Wednesday night when I went to the next town over for paint night. Left on time that night!!! But the roads were terrible and I did make it to the class on time and the roads home at the end were much nicer. Next post will be my demented owl.

Went in to work a little later then normal for me. (aka 7 instead of 6:30) and got a phone call an hour into my day. Did you know about the meeting today, do your legally required checks early. I told him I can't and was told I came in early it will be fine and to split the afternoon checks with my trainee. Which not a problem but the meeting was useless to me. Still don't understand exactly what we're supposed to do and how. Other then cook the books on where the hours we work are allocated too. Fuck that. If I'm doing paper work, then the company can realize I had more then the allotted 10% of my week to paperwork. Haha, maybe they will clue in to the hours I'm working because telling the supervisor is doing nothing for me. Came home last night after avoiding everyone at work all day (right up until the end, got into an argument with how things are being done.) and was freezing so I went to bed and slept for 14 hours. made me late for work today. :) Also have not done much of anything productive today, here's hoping I kick things in high gear tomorrow. I have a long list of stuff to get done that isn't happening because I'm exhausted and just don't care at the moment.

/rant.

Oops, sorry. Had to get that out. So tomorrow back on the band wagon, it's to late for the goals today. Also on the list for tomorrow, make a pretty check list for the month of November so that I have a visual reminder next to my computer about the goals being completed!! And with that, off to bed as I have to work again tomorrow.

No rest for the wicked!

I've had some conflict at work lately, too, and the anxiety and stress can really take it out of you. Virtual hugs, and yes, it can be very good to get it off your chest, even if nothing else has changed. You are not alone.

hi Kathleen's Adventure! how is your week 3 going? did you think of anything to do in the town you're at yet, after work? do you want us to brainstorm with you? I'm a big fan of throwing out random things. :)

(Semi-automated message from your Guild Leader)

Hi!

This Challenge period has come to its end.   If you could please, take a few minutes to fill out this Feedback Form (Click Here).

Although this the last end of this challenge, there's usually a 1 week break between challenge periods.  During that break, you can keep going in here if you want to.  But keep an eye out for the new Guild Forums to appear that are for the next challenge period.  They should be activated soon-ish.  Once they are, you should decide which guild you want to do your next challenge in, and place your new challenge thread inside that guild's forum.

If you have any more questions about this process, or anything else, please post your question(s) on the Guild Leader AMA with Hazard thread.   That way if anybody has your same question(s), I can answer it for everyone at the same time.
