Juliebarkley is still walking

Week 2, Day 5:

Physical: Strength for the journey ahead. Gargoyles are heavy!

1. Move every day. 4/7. Missed exercising today (though I did help lift a canoe and a barbecue).

2. Brush teeth with rinses once per day (with a friend). 4/7 for me; 2/7 for my cat.

Spiritual: Create a more peaceful world. Gargoyles are frightened.

3. 2 prayers per day. 4/7. D20 reward chart is working!

Mental: Don't journey alone. Gargoyles are lonely.

4. Post to Nerdfitness every day. Post on someone else's thread everyday. 4/7.

Financial: Sustenance for the road. Gargoyles are hungry.

5. Do some online work every day. 5/7. I retaught myself how to use the program, though it's pretty old (like my computer) and might not work with the "new" Amazon. We shall see. It will work for Biblio, though. And I went to Amazon Seller University... until my internet died and then I couldn't list anything either. Darn.

Random Encounters: Anything can happen on the road. Gargoyles are vulnerable.

6. 3 random encounters/week. 0/7. I keep forgetting to work on this!

I'm not totally out of the running for any of my goals, but I am at risk for most of them. Must be careful over the next two days!

I finished Konmari-ing my games tonight, and truthfully, I did not get rid of much. I have games covered in dust for systems I don't even own (but are not hard to emulate), and I still feel excited to play them. I have not made any time in my life for video games at all, and my poor Mac Classic has been gathering dust (literally - how do you get dust out of a classic iMac?) I love older games: I have many older console emulators and even a whole computer set up as a Commodore 64 emulator, and yet I haven't played any video game in months. :( Neither have I knitted, or tatted, or other crafts I enjoy or would like to try out. But hey, that's part of this process - making room in your life for the things that you love, and realizing what it is that you WANT time for in your life.

Week 2, Day 6:

Physical: Strength for the journey ahead. Gargoyles are heavy!

1. Move every day. 5/7. Tried out the Fitocracy app that @CheshireCrab mentioned. It's kind of neat, but I will have to be careful to avoid exercises with weights, since I don't own any.

2. Brush teeth with rinses once per day (with a friend). 5/7 for me; 2/7 for my cat.

Spiritual: Create a more peaceful world. Gargoyles are frightened.

3. 2 prayers per day. 5/7.

Mental: Don't journey alone. Gargoyles are lonely.

4. Post to Nerdfitness every day. Post on someone else's thread everyday. 5/7.

Financial: Sustenance for the road. Gargoyles are hungry.

5. Do some online work every day. 6/7. My internet died again this evening, so I was only able to enter a couple of items. I did, however, condition-check my entire potential stock and price/supply&demand check a smaller pile, so I have a little pile ready to go and a very large pile ready for their final check. The internet was back when I was done the checking, but after a couple of hours of working on them, I was happy to leave it for later. :)

Random Encounters: Anything can happen on the road. Gargoyles are vulnerable.

6. 3 random encounters/week. 0/7. Argh. Okay, I'm rolling on this now... Tomorrow I will be figuring out what to do with my Nikita-related papers for 15 minutes! Then we shall see what comes next.

Well, I only need 3 for those per week, so I am passing. But I really should try to do one a day. They add a little variety to life.

Thanks! I just followed you on Fitocracy, and wow, you have a lot of points! I'm still trying to figure out how the quests, achievements, and even the workout selection works, so if you have any tips, please send them my way.

Week 2, Day 7:

Physical: Strength for the journey ahead. Gargoyles are heavy!

1. Move every day. 6/7. Usual bodyweight exercises.

2. Brush teeth with rinses once per day (with a friend). 6/7 for me; 3/7 for my cat. The toothpaste got all over her whiskers, which was annoying for her, but so cute watching her clean it off.

Spiritual: Create a more peaceful world. Gargoyles are frightened.

3. 2 prayers per day. 6/7. Today was a close call because I forgot that the time change was going to change my timings, but I made it!

Mental: Don't journey alone. Gargoyles are lonely.

4. Post to Nerdfitness every day. Post on someone else's thread everyday. 6/7. I got roped into a mini-PVP, too (thanks, @scalyfreak!) :)

Financial: Sustenance for the road. Gargoyles are hungry.

5. Do some online work every day. 7/7. Listed a few books before the internet got really bad. It's been cutting off entirely or going so slow that it is unuseable quite often lately, and almost 100% of the time between about 7 and 10. Which is when I like to do computery things. So I'll have to move my listing time to a different time slot for now, I guess.

Random Encounters: Anything can happen on the road. Gargoyles are vulnerable.

6. 3 random encounters/week. 3/7. Picked stuff out of my Nikita papers to put in a scrapbook, read an article of chip carving, and tried to install Reunion so that I do genealogy stuff. Only the last one was not very successful and way over time - my optical drive appears to be either broken or dirty and wouldn't read the disc. I put the files on my Google drive and transferred them that way, but the installation is coming up as a demo, and the company's website says that the disc needs to be in the machine to recognize the license. I may have to try again with an external drive later. Though this does give me another reminder that I really need to open my computer up  to clean it and check on some stuff. I am not looking forward to that though. Early Mac Minis are not fun to get open

So all in all, I think I passed all of my goals! This is the best week I've had challengewise in a long time, so woo! Maybe I can get that gargoyle back home this challenge, after all. I will have to do well for the next two weeks, though...

Sure, hit me up any time you have questions! Your Quests and Achievements can be found by going to your profile and looking towards the left-pane where your About, Feed, and Activities are located. The Quests require you to do specific activities described under the Quest list. Completing a Quest will give you Bonus XP for leveling up. The Quests have a link for each activity to show what exercise qualifies towards that Quest(e.g. Heroic Half Marathon can be achieved by logging either Running, Treadmill Running, or Trail Running).

The Achievements are basically milestones and do not grant XP. They are only unlocked by reaching certain exercise goals(i.e. Running X amount of miles, Bench Press X-amount of your body weight, Doing X-Amount of pull-ups). There are certain Quests and Achievements that differ by gender. It's mostly the ones that involve weight lifting.

They also have groups available if you go to the top-menu and click on "Connect". The WTF - Welcome to Fitocracy, Ask A Fitocracy Coach, and Fitocracy Knowledge base are great groups to help with questions about general exercising and about the Fito App itself.

Not on computer today, so a very quick report. I did not get any physical activity in today, but was successful in everything else. Monday is a hard day to get exercise in for me, so I’m okay with it (not thrilled, just okay). Better update tomorrow!

Another short update as I forgot that I have no time on Tuesdays, lol. Exercise, work, prayers, tooth brushing (for me only), posting, check. Random encounters no, due to said lack of time. Tomorrow won’t be much better, but I should be able to pull together a proper post. Night all!

If you have the actual cartridges from older consoles, then I recommend looking into the Retro consoles. They're modified consoles that can play the cartridges of older consoles, my bro has one that plays NES and SNES cartridges, and he loves it! It's worth looking into!

Okay, time for a proper, gather-the-info post:

Week 3, Day 5:

Physical: Strength for the journey ahead. Gargoyles are heavy!

1. Move every day. 4/7. Crap, it was cold today! I didn't even make it to the mailbox; there was just too much wind coming over the open field, so I had to turn back.

Financial: Sustenance for the road. Gargoyles are hungry.

5. Do some online work every day. 4/7. There is one day a week that I simply do not have time, but I did it every other day.

Random Encounters: Anything can happen on the road. Gargoyles are vulnerable.

6. 3 random encounters/week. 0/7. Err...

This has been a bad week for internetting. We had a thunder and lightning, wind, freezing rain, and snow storm last night, which made me very glad that I had gotten my run in earlier! I have been trying a time blocking technique to make time for work from home, hobby time, family time, etc. I am going to have to take a serious hard look at some of my email subscriptions to cut down on my email/internet time. That is where my time has been going, and while I enjoy the stuff I read, it is not part of my ideal life to spend most of my free time reading email and watching videos, and not making things, reading, and doing stuff with family. The time blocks have let me have a family reading hour for the last several nights, a tidying session (DVDs), some much-needed vacuuming, cast on and knit 7 rows of a Ravenclaw beanie, and work on a jigsaw puzzle with my son. Seems much more fulfilling, don't you think?

Looks like I am also not going to get a story posted this week. Since we are out of the fight, had a sleep, and have chowed down (not on the rabbit - we let her go!), we are resuming our walk to the gargoyle home. We know where we are going, now all we have to do is walk there. The number of successes determines how far we go - if I pass them all, we will be nearly there! I am going to count anything that I couldn't do tomorrow as a pass as I was genuinely unable.

Tomorrow I am headed off to Scout camp so I will not be able to post (or do several challenge things). It is supposed to be a high of 0 Celsius and we can only go inside to sleep. Pray for me. :)

I am so tired. 13 little kids + 2 older kids + 4 adults + attempted 8:30 bedtime does not make for restful sleep. I did my challenges today (including my random encounters, yay!), but I did nothing else but email. No energy. I think this means I pass everything but tooth brushing, as I didn’t get my cat’s teeth done? I’ll verify tomorrow when my brain is working again.

I promise a better update tomorrow. I’ve just been so, so tired. I did not do work at home today (planned, as it is just impossible on Wednesdays), but was successful in everything else. My cat’s teeth have not been brushed yet this week, though, and that will have to be remedied!

Okay, so another less than stellar entry, but a good day challenge wise. All of my daily challenges were successfully completed, but my non-daily ones were not. This seems to be a pattern for me; it is much easier to do something every day than x times per week.

My exercise today was not Zombie running as I had planned, due to the ice rain and generally awful weather. I was very tempted to do nothing, but then I thought of @scalyfreak’s PVP and thought harder. In the end, I put a 10-minute video on my phone and walked up and down my basement stairs as it ran. It was a pretty good workout actually!

I am starting to have the exact same problem. The daily challenges are easy, it's the ones that require me to do something "x times per week" that I struggle with.

Coincidentally, I almost didn't do my walk this morning, but then I remembered I would have to explain why in my PVP thread. "Didn't want to" would have been an embarrassing reason so I went on my walk instead. :)

I’m thinking of assigning things to specific days next time, to see if it makes things easier. I never forgets workouts, because I know Tues-Fri-Sun are workout days. But since the challenge items aren’t necessarily forever items, I’m not sure. These are my ideas:

1. Group the x per week items, so that between two challenge items, something happens every day.

2. Try to do the x per week every day (if I am working them up to ultimately being daily).

3. Assign them to specific days, instead of just x times per week.

4. Assign certain days of the week as challenge days, when the x per week happens.

What do you think? I haven’t decided yet.

Also, I didn’t do my walk on Tuesday, but I haven’t made the Post of Shame yet.

I have been toying with the same kinds of ideas. I have the same designated workout days as you do, Friday-Sunday-Tuesday, but last week the only day I made it to the gym was Sunday. I've toyed with the idea of scheduling my workouts in Google Calendar so it gives me reminders and sits there staring at me.

And it's a Post of Explanation, not a Post of Shame :P

These are my ideas:

1. Group the x per week items, so that between two challenge items, something happens every day.

2. Try to do the x per week every day (if I am working them up to ultimately being daily).

3. Assign them to specific days, instead of just x times per week.

4. Assign certain days of the week as challenge days, when the x per week happens.

What do you think? I haven’t decided yet.

The best one is the one that works for you.  If you aren't sure, maybe you try one option each week of the next challenge and see what works?  For me, I do better when it I don't have to remember what day it is, so option 2 works best for me.  I know option 1 works for others here, because they like to have the flexibility.  It doesn't work for me because although I do one thing, I seem to forget the ones I don't like (which kind of defeats the purpose)

I have done a terrible job of summarizing my results for the last couple of weeks, but I have actually been doing very well with my goals! Today I did all of the things, finished up my weekly random encounters (reactivated a dormant bank account, woo!), exercise, an extra hour of work at home sorting books for easier processing... all the things.

I will do a wrap-up tomorrow. This challenge has given me some ideas of what works and doesn't for me, things I need to think about, and things I need to work on for the future.
