Movie recommendations:

Loving Vincent is a visual feast. The story is lovely, too. I dare you not to fall I move with modern art by the end.

Lady Bird is the coming of age story we all wanted and need so desperately. Perhaps it resonated more for me, given that there were moments (plural) that seemed taken right out of my journals from the 80s. Great though.

3 Billboards is as tender as it's characters are tormented. Grief and belonging and community and our roles in it all are beautifully unfolded. There are no answers. Talk with each other.

Last Jedi is a mashup of the best (and at times campiest) parts of Return of the Jedi and Empire Strikes Back. I loved it anyway, especially as a sendoff for Carrie, my princess. I'm looking forward to seeing where it will all end up, now that the old ground has been reclaimed and released. #Skywalker-Solo

 

Looking forward to seeing The Shape of Water later this week.

Been thinking of you today, a while since your last update. Sad to hear about the court experience, but it sounds like it could have gone way worse.

Thanks, @DarK_RaideR. I've been thinking of you too and hoping you are well.

I'm in the long game as concerns Vivian, so this was ok. Hard and at times ugly in the moment, but no loss and some long-term gain.

If I can sweat through whole30, I can take three hours of lies.

Good call. It's hard to remember the long term, especially living in a culture that focuses on immediate satisfaction and short term gain.

Finally (!!) heard from Vivian's father about how he wants to divide up winter break (that started yesterday. that I asked about on Nov. 6. never mind.)

We pick her up on Sunday, Christmas Eve before bedtime and keep her until the evening of January 1st. I'm looking forward to the visit.

 

As I approach Midwinter's end of the year, I'm grateful and calm.

The hectic schedule is quickly receding and there is space and time to tend to what remains: the application portfolio pieces, the January workshop pieces, the scholarship essays. There are also cookies to bake and stockings to fill, presents to wrap and board games to play. There is knitting to be done.

 

January promises to be a little special in ways I don't understand just yet; I look forward to the Universe revealing more to me and to us all, as it always does.

 

A full retrospective will come in a week or so, but for now it is enough to know that I am calm in my heart as I look back on the wheel of this past year and the seasons of life that I have walked with the turning of the sun.

in other news, I have some pages coming together for the January workshop.

The bus ticket for the January workshop has been purchased and the hotel confirmed.

I'm in that weird acceptance-of-anxiety space that is the known unknown. 

 

Vivian has been a delight.

Harvey and I saw The Shape of Water last week and it is beautiful. We finished the most recent season of Leaky Blinders on Netflix and the show continues to be a favorite. We're on season two of The Crown these days.

Agreed! She has already asked if she can stay for two more weeks, so I think she is liking it too.

We all went back to the gym yesterday afternoon, and it was nice to return to our center.

I swam 450 yards and did 20 minutes in the sauna.

There is an arctic blast coming through, threatening to keep everyone inside for the weekend. We might go swimming later today or we might not. We'll play it by ear.
