So my last challenge fell apart at the seams and I'm still a little sad about it. However, I learned so much about myself and my body last month/challenge that I'm going to just roll on and keep going. 2017 has been a very difficult year for me. My life has undergone several large changes in a short period and my adaptability is not very high. I need to do some recentering and figure myself out a little more. I think overall this challenge is going to be very much a playpen for myself and my goals. Trying new things figuring the old ones back out so that I can start 2018 like a boss!

So part one of my challenge: defining my 2018 goals.

luke-skywalker-girls.gif

1) To become stronger by cultivating a habit of working out and finding activities that I love

2) To become happier by cultivating the habits of finding joy in my daily life and developing coping strategies to combat anxiety

3) To become more flexible by cultivating a habit of stretching my body regularly

4) To continue to learn by reading new books- both fiction and nonfiction

And with these goals I'll define my final 2017 challenge.

75dc93b3e46bc0eedb0551153afc3659.gif

Goal 1- Work out 2x/week

This goal is a very important goal because it directly builds into my 2018 goals. I'm going to restructure my workout plan since I've found things that don't work or that I don't like. I can use those to help build a balanced workout plan with two alternating full body workouts that don't have much- if any- overlap. (Basically my only overlap is going to be squats b/c I HATE lunges so much and would much rather do squats so I'm doing squats). One workout will be in the evening during the week, the other will be on a weekend day.

rey-finn-and-bb-8-run-the-force-awakens.

Goal 2- Stretch 3x/week

I'm going to stretch three times each week outside of my gym days to help improve my physical flexibility. I love stretching and flexibility, and I'm going to adjust my routine when I get home from work to accommodate it. If I'm not going anywhere, I'm going to put on a pair of comfy evening pants and a tee shirt (or sweatshirt) after work. Then I can stretch whenever I want and don't have to wait until I remove my jeans.

14661840319135-anigif_enhanced-buzz-2612

Goal 3- Track my sleep

One long term goal is to improve my mindfulness practice. I'm going to have to start getting up slightly earlier in the morning overall, which means that I need to sleep more. So I'm going to start tracking my sleep so that I can see where I am in regards of being able to get up early in the morning and relax a bit before work or whatever I do during a day. I can track my sleep in my BuJo for now, I'm hoping to get a smartwatch soon with sleep tracking in it. That will give me better tracking.

tumblr_lxtwt9j4nx1r98lguo1_r1_500.gif

And that's it. I'm only doing three goals this time to allow myself grace for the holiday season and my first Christmas with my husband. And also to get myself back into the groove since I haven't been doing much grooving recently. I'm really ready to get myself together and start being a bit more of a grown up.

Just a PSA because I love sharing books.

My profile picture (and also cover photo) hail from Sarah J. Maas's Throne of Glass series. The woman in my picture is named Aelin. She has overcome hell and made it her bitch. She's like 200% badass. It's great. She (and Feyre from last challenge) is what I like to call GOALZ.

I love those books!  Just finished A Court of Wings and Ruin, it was so good.  Have you read Tower of Dawn?  I’m not sure about it since it seems to be about other characters.

Someone else has read these! I'm so pleased. And Tower of Dawn is not only excellent, but necessary to the story. I didn't wanna read it either but I absolutely loved it when I did.

I dunno, I like lunges; you can really feel them in the glutes.
I dunno why but I absolutely can't stand them. I'd much rather do squats

Lunges & burpees can go die in a hole.......preferably filled with something nasty.  Like alligators.  Hungry ones.  Maybe I’d like them better if my knees weren’t shot.  Nah.  They can still die.

Lol I have basically no balance so I can't ever do them correctly. And I just highly dislike doing them for some reason >_> They can die.

I am so proud of the both of you. The only thing I hate more than Burpees are lunges, and the only thing I hate more than lunges are burpees.

What's with all this hatin on the lunges and burpees...

Lunges are THE BEST. But i better keep my voice down, or Tank will get on his deadlift vs squat horse ;) That might have something to do with the lunges also.

Last weekend 2 days of DOMS in the glutes from doing weighted overhead lunges (3x3@10meter@15 KG dumbbells).

They are fantastic!!!

Very solid and thought-through challenge.

A challenge where you actually did stuff, AND even better prepare yourself to be more efficient for the rest of your life cause: "I learned so much about myself and my body last month/challenge that I'm going to just roll on and keep going."

Do not call it a waste, and certainly not be sad about it! Knowledge is far more powerful than a temporary disturbance in the force.

I struggle with balance and also I just (for some odd reason) don't enjoy the movement. If you do- more power to you! Enjoy!

Thanks!

That's a fair point. I feel a lot more confident in my body after the last challenge, and I'm starting to think I'm seriously getting the whole Intuitive Eating thing down for the most part. Not 100%, obviously, but it's slowly getting better and I think my body confidence finally found a breakthrough. The growing I've done makes it worth it. I'm still a Padawan level human for sure, but some day soon I'll face the Trials again. And this time I'll pass :) I believe I took them too early last time. This time, I'll be ready when the time comes.

That's very fair. I'm still just squatting bodyweight b/c we don't have a squat rack in the tiny apartment gym I use. I'll add medicine balls or dumbbells when bodyweight squats are too easy.

Some people prefer deadlifting over squatting, there is a theory that says it has to do with the way your body is build up, length of the thigh bone in relation to the rest of your body would be key here. I know Tank prefers deadlift, and i just like to disagree in general ;).
