sylph preps for performance, part I

Recommended Posts

Had an amazing cluster of evening errands which involved two different post offices, numerous phone calls and driving all over creation. Needless to say, I didn't get even a little workout squeezed into my evening.

But, I did keep with in my calories and get my very basic skin routine completed before I went to bed.

Bootcamp and open gym tonight, class tomorrow.

I somehow had forgotten about 1) skin care and 2) that it is a goal for you and was like "woah woah woah, did she decide to do away with a costume all together for her routine?! OR IS THIS SOME KIND OF EUPHEMISM?!"

My brain is apparently not all here today.

I love your gratitude and messages in advance of tday last week. :) It must be nice to be done with the night of errands at least!

Eugh those heavy adulting days are the worst. At least you can compensate at circus. :)

And on top of that, 45+ min with Verizon customer support trying to figure out phone plan/upgrade/trade in nonsense since the info on their website is woefully incomplete.

Bwahahah! Circus 'after dark' would be particularly painful and burn-making on the silks.

I  mean, if you can't find a good outfit body paint might be an option. :D

Smearing body paint all over the silks sounds like a weird kind of performance art.

Australia's Acrobat has done it... although they're weird enough it might actually be blood...

I had the same thought! Auction off the silks at the end of the night for art-art, hah.

I guess silks is opposite of pole in that you DON'T want skin to touch.

(I have to wear long sleeves when we do heavy bag work so I don't get "rug burn" on my elbows. totally get it.)

Oh yeah. Silks or rope on bare skin usually means you'll be losing some skin. I have a couple scars on the top of my foot from a slightly-too-fast descent on the rope with too short of leggings. Whoops.

Yesterday:

Within calories

Cleanse/tone/moisturize complete

Aerial bootcamp last night followed by open gym: Yes on the hip flexors, maybe on the 2 min air sequences? I was in the air a lot, but didn't purposefully time my sequences as I had honestly forgotten about this goal. Also, I couldn't work on any choreography because my phone was dead, so no music. :(

Speaking of music, I'm waffling on my choice, now. This was going to be the song:

Now I kind of want to use this instead:

I have until 12/30 for my final music decision.

Haha, I agree with Hatter. Getting down to LMFAO is fun but for a whole performance it might be a bit much!

Thanks peeps! I think I'm just having a minor freak out by having essentially NONE of my choreography solidified yet and I'm feeling all my practice time melting away. If I can distract people with a funny song, then they won't notice my errors, right? RIGHT?

The more logical thing would be to get my choreography together and stop faffing around, I suppose. :)

Yes on hip flexors last night at the end of class.

Yes on cals

Yes on cleanse/tone/moisturize

Good times in class last night--being extremely sore in all of my abs from bootcamp the previous evening made things... interesting (even more so when I was trying to get up from lying on the couch later in the evening. Yowch).

At any rate, we continued to work on hip key roll ups which are RIDICULOUS!! From the right side, i just. couldn't. get. it. Kept needing my legs spotted, couldn't keep momentum up, blah blah blah. Then my instructor said "Okay, now do them on the other side!" Boo for left side, but tried it anyway, without really thinking and I totally got it first try!!! WHAT EVEN HAPPENED? I DON'T KNOW. But I made a shrieking surprised noise, I'm sure had a ridiculous look on my face and then posed out at the top like a madwoman. Whee!! So excited to have gotten this. Now I'll have way more confidence working these again and trying to get them from my 'good' side. :D:D:D:D

edit: This is a hip key roll up. This is not me, but I had a way more excited expression, made a really loud noise, and had many more poses at the end. :)

It looks pretty easy but with out either really good back flexibility, enough momentum or both, it's just about impossible. I'm not particularly bendy in my back, so I really need that momentum to get there. Apparently I was too chicken to do that on my normal side, just said F it on the left and got it, somehow. :)

Yep.

Really cool skill though! And it’s always worth trying skills on the “wrong” side as you never really know how they’ll feel until you try. Especially when it comes to really complex skills like this one.

It's a total mindfuck compared to a normal hip key, which I think is most of my problem. Hip key? Done it a million times, no big-- WTF JUST HAPPENED!?

heh

i mean, it's not a super complicated sequence with lots of fiddly bits. It's "hip key +" So, "looks fairly simple" would've been more accurate language, i think. :)

So, so true. I am usually lazy and only do things on my strong side. This was a happy accident in so many ways.

Yes, Mom. ;)

I wish my gym had more open practice times that worked with my life :( If they had early morning (like 6a) open times, I'd be there every day. As it is, Monday evenings are IT and if something interferes, I'm SOL. :(

Let's be real, it takes unnatural discipline to work on your bad side. Or a very mean coach. ;)

Heh.

I have had the conversation (several times with several people) that I don't have nearly enough time to spend on circus to be as good as I want to. If I won the lottery, I would quit my job, enroll full time in a circus arts school and never leave. :D

But, alas, food and other necessities require $$...

Muggle workout (legs) and hip flexor stretching on the docket for tonight.

(I've already gone over calories as my interim boss wanted to get lunch and who am I to refuse a split starter? Ah well. It's only about 100 cals over and I'm full enough that I don't think I'll feel the need to eat anything else today)
