I do... a lot, but this challenge will be an important pivot from the path I've been on preparing for my first powerlifting meet (Dec. 2) to getting back into gymnastics competition shape after a year off of competition. While I've been continuing to go to practice and work on my skills, my ROUTINES are sorely lacking in endurance and polish. My gym is closed during at least a week of December PLUS traveling for the holidays puts a kink in things, but that is no reason I can't work on my weaknesses outside of the gymnastics gym as well. SOOO, let's get our Sonic the hedgehog IRL back on. 1. Interval Training *2x per week: any kind of tabatas, sprints, stairs, etc. 2. Preparedness *Beam routines every gymnastics practice *Floor routine run-throughs at least 6x over challenge *Vault 4x over challenge *Bars 4x over challenge 3. Flexibility *Active flexibility work outside of gymnastics 2x per week 4. You sure can! I usually aim to do 2 or 3 full tabatas of whatever things I am doing. I am going to chat zero week in here because I don't know what else to do with myself if I can't tell you beautiful internet people about my day. Day 0.2 That embeds pretty huge, but these were the last 2 of my 3 singles at my opening squat weight of 240#. I've got a little bit of butt wink on the second rep, which is unusual to me, but otherwise, I think they both look solid! They're not perfect squats, but they are very comfortable and look like a great weight to kick off my meet with. Other than that, I did one quick set of 3 x 225#, 3 x 20 x 44# kettlebell swings, and 3 x 20 x 35# hypers with a 10s glute squeeze at the top <-- oooo my butt/hamstrings. Good stuff. The rest of my Zero Week looks like this: Wednesday: bench singles, clean my house and hope Hubstron is able to fix our kitchen sink tap that exploded last night while I was doing dishes, make pies, make paté, set out stuffing bread Thursday: COOK EVERYTHING and host Thanksgiving with friends! The premise was that everyone shows up with a myth and you spend your evening hopping between bars and both telling your story and listening to others. It is super fun, especially as there are some really weird myths out there. I went with a Hopi folk tale about a fox that liked to sneak into town dances and get the dance participants all hot and bothered with his great dancing skills and then run away before the night was up.
