Raptron: Gotta Go Fast

Hi, I'm Raptron! I do... a lot, but this challenge will be an important pivot from the path I've been on preparing for my first powerlifting meet (Dec. 2) to getting back into gymnastics competition shape after a year off of competition. While I've been continuing to go to practice and work on my skills, my ROUTINES are sorely lacking in endurance and polish. My gym is closed during at least a week of December PLUS traveling for the holidays puts a kink in things, but that is no reason I can't work on my weaknesses outside of the gymnastics gym as well.

SOOO, let's get our Sonic the hedgehog IRL back on.

giphy.gif

1. Interval Training

*2x per week: any kind of tabatas, sprints, stairs, etc.

2. Preparedness

*Beam routines every gymnastics practice

*Floor routine run-throughs at least 6x over challenge

*Vault 4x over challenge

*Bars 4x over challenge

3. Flexibility

*Active flexibility work outside of gymnastics 2x per week

4. Brain Power

*Read at least 2 books

So I was all excited about this gymnastics cardio but I got distracted... what books? :P

2 hours ago, Ensi said:

Yay here! :D Have you thought about which books you'd like to read?

I'm thinking Galapagos by Vonnegut, which is like one of the last Vonnegut books I haven't read. And maybe Telegraph Avenue by Michael Chabon, but I also started the 3rd Expanse book, so finishing any 2 is fine by me.

One tabata is 8 times 20s/10s thus lasts 4 minutes, BUT you can do multiple tabata's in one session..

You sure can! I usually aim to do 2 or 3 full tabatas of whatever things I am doing. My work gym also has conditioning classes which will count toward the goal if I go to them because they're usually on a tabata or 60s/30s type interval scheme.

I miss alot of opportunities. ;)

I am going to chat zero week in here because I don't know what else to do with myself if I can't tell you beautiful internet people about my day.

Day 0.2

That embeds pretty huge, but these were the last 2 of my 3 singles at my opening squat weight of 240#. I've got a little bit of butt wink on the second rep, which is unusual to me, but otherwise, I think they both look solid! They're not perfect squats, but they are very comfortable and look like a great weight to kick off my meet with.

Other than that, I did one quick set of 3 x 225#, 3 x 20 x 44# kettlebell swings, and 3 x 20 x 35# hypers with a 10s glute squeeze at the top <-- oooo my butt/hamstrings. Good stuff.

The rest of my Zero Week looks like this:

Wednesday: bench singles, clean my house and hope Hubstron is able to fix our kitchen sink tap that exploded last night while I was doing dishes, make pies, make paté, set out stuffing bread

Thursday: COOK EVERYTHING and host Thanksgiving with friends!

Friday: eat pie for breakfast and do my deadlift opener singles

Saturday: gymnastics practice, brunch, mythology bar crawl

Sunday: holiday shopping at the flea market and floor choreography at the work gym

Mmm pie. What kind?

1 hour ago, annyshay said:

Yes. What type?

I am making two: sour cream apple with a crumb topping (weee!) and a sweet potato pie. My friend is also bringing a custard pie.

Also yes. I need more details and/or costumes and/or photos. :D

Oh, challenge looks good too. ;)

I went last year, which was the first time they organized it. The premise was that everyone shows up with a myth and you spend your evening hopping between bars and both telling your story and listening to others. It is super fun, especially as there are some really weird myths out there. I went with a Hopi folk tale about a fox that liked to sneak into town dances and get the dance participants all hot and bothered with his great dancing skills and then run away before the night was up. I'm not sure what I want to do this year! Anyone have any favorites that aren't very well known? (Avoiding the big pantheons like Roman/Greek and Norse?)

Yum! We’re doing pecan and pumpkin this year, and i am super excited to introduce my parents to the idea of pie for breakfast.

This collection of stories! Mainly because I love picturing a devious cartoon turtle in all of these. I’m assuming West African folklore is hipster enough for you :P

There are some really interesting/creepy Russian folk tales out there (Baba Yaga comes immediately to mind http://www.oldrussia.net/baba.html)
