Ahahah, thanks guys. I feel like a nice dose of glitter spray would certainly spruce up the trophy a bit. ;)

Day 2.1

I had some stomach upset Sunday night through Monday that put me in not the best mood. I went home a bit early, took a little nap, and ate some simple things like crackers and rice. Felt okay enough to make it to gymnastics practice. I went through floor basics (but no tumbling), including a few sets of my leap pass which is starting to feel more confident. Then to uneven bars where I want to learn a different entry into an uprise (starting from the top of the bar rather than from the low bar) so if I start reliably making my toe-to-high bar transitions, I can have a way to get into the uprise in my routine. I made some progress on that, then switched to just practicing some toe-to-highs where I accidentally kept leaning forward and missed my feet and landed my hips and thighs squarely on the bar with a couple of fun bounces. That's gonna bruise! It got better from there though :P

Beam routines went okay and I included walkovers this time. There is still a dull pain in my lower back from when I jammed it a couple of weeks ago, but most things don't seem to bother it and I notice it the most when I am walking or standing around. I will still take it easy on super compression-y lumbar spine things in the mean time. Ended practice with some back handsprings on the low beam and stretching.

Intervals: 1/2, 0/2

Preparedness: beam routines 3/3, floor routines 1/6, vault 0/4, bars 3/4

Flexibility:  2/2, 0/2

Books read: 18% of book 1

I'm flying out to Philly for the weekend to spend it with some of my best friends from home. We never get to hang out all together we all live in different cities and two of them have had their parents move out of Chicago so they don't even get to go home for the holidays anymore. Plan for the week:

Tues: lifting, flexibility + bake cookies?

Weds: STADIUM (interval) + try to cancel one of my gym memberships + D&D

Thurs: gymnastics + possible interval conditioning

Fri: reading on the plane + lifting in Philly + flexibility (and/or interval if I don't do it at practice)

Sat: probably nothing but maybe go for a run or something

Sun: rest + reading on the plane

That trophy :D What are you going to do with it? I always wonder.

Very well done, congrats! It really is about who shows up :)

Loved the grindy squat, that was wicked. Have you ever tried sumo deadlifts? Might be more up your alley?

Hahah, I think I will keep this one in my house somewhere. We have two viking busts of Odin and Frigg so I feel like it wouldn't be out of place near them... :D If I wind up competing more and winning others, I may bring them into the gym, which is what a lot of people seem to do.

I have done a bit with sumo. I think they're probably easier for me, but I am planning on playing with them more in my new program. I'm thinking I'll probably start including them as an accessory on deadlift days so I can keep getting more comfortable with them. I've only pulled up to 235# so far in sumo, but yeah, I do think they feel easier, even if getting used to the set-up seems like it will take a while.

Haha, that would be great. I did send around a meet update with my videos and a picture of the trophy to some coworkers who were asking about the meet!

Way to kick ass at the meet this weekend!!! And I'm impressed that you make it to gymnastics after a feeling sick kind of day - I always give myself the night off from dance if I leave work feeling less than great.

Our gymnastics gym always closes for a week or two around the holidays and it makes me worry about missing practices in December. Plus I did feel mostly okay by then! :)

Your weekend sounds like it's gonna be amazeballs!

Yesss, I am really excited. And I feel like I am one of the few people that actually really likes Philadelphia. I think it's a fun place with great food and bars and a whole buttload of character.

Day 2.2

Went back to the gym to get in some "light" lifting for my post-meet week. I figured 75% seemed like a good place to reacquaint myself with 5s. My body had a little bit of soreness on Sunday, but honestly not a whole lot considering that Saturday was a max out day. My 3rd set of squats assured me that while my legs might not be actively sore, they were definitely not back to normal. These were slooow and steady.

Squats

5 x 45#

5 x 95#

5 x 135#

5 x 165#

3 x 5 x 195#

Bench

5 x 45#

5 x 75#

5 x 95#

3 x 5 x 110# w/pause on chest

Hypers w/35#: 3 x 20

Lat raises: 3 x 10 x 15#

Pull-ups: 3 x 2 (I tried to make these pretty but that is questionable)

Lower ab work (various leg lowers, flutter kicks, hollow rocks and holds)

Intervals: 1/2, 0/2

Preparedness: beam routines 3/3, floor routines 1/6, vault 0/4, bars 3/4

Flexibility:  2/2, 1/2

Books read: 18% of book 1, 10% of book 2

Day 2.3

tumblr_nztyxeHoYK1uzha9uo1_400.gif

Went to November Project for the first time in ages and ages. No more powerlifting meet excuse. :PWe had the option of a head-to-head style racing workout or a more standard "just go up and down at your own pace" style workout. Given that my legs were super sad yesterday AND I have a record of eating shit on the stairs when I try to go too quickly, I went for the standard workout. However, to be truer to my interval goal, once I warmed up with 5 sections or so, I started alternating "sprinting" (uhhh, kind of) sections in with my slower hiking style sections. It was rough! I did make it through 30 sections, which is definitely a solid return starting point. :)

Intervals: 1/2, 1/2

Preparedness: beam routines 3/3, floor routines 1/6, vault 0/4, bars 3/4

Flexibility:  2/2, 1/2

Books read: 18% of book 1, 10% of book 2

There is quite a steep learning curve! We had one of our powerlifters switch and she took about 3 months only sumo-deadlifting to get back to her previous numbers (and has since exceeded them because sumo also suits her much better). Most people make the mistake of setting up in sumo style but then still pulling like it's a regular lift, so have someone watch your for a bit if you do want to take that step!

It's a freeeeee fitness movement. It's a lot of things. But when I talk about it, I am usually referring to running the bleachers at the Harvard Stadium at 6:30 in the morning on Wednesdays. It looks like this:

Though now a lot colder now that it is December. :P

Day 2.4

Took the day off. My legs were cramping any time I went on my toes and generally felt like they were made of pain and suffering. Plus a friend of mine was having a hard time, so we hung out instead of me going to gymnastics.

Day 2.5

Flew into Philadelphia bright and early, landing at 8:05 am. I made my way to a gym I had scoped out for a chill morning workout.

Deadlifts

5 x 135#

5 x 175#

5 x 205#

5 x 5 x 215#

OHP

5 x 45#

5 x 55#

3 x 65#

5 x 5 x 75#

Pull-ups: 3, 3, 3, 2

Hypers: 3 x 20 x 25#

Handstand holds skill practice and shoulder taps

Tabata of rowing on the c2 x 2 <- aka death with a big break between the two sets.

Then I showered and changed and got out of there to hang with my frieeeends.

Days 2.6 - 2.7

Friend stuff all day both days, duh. I also got to see Cline (OG nerdfitness forums person) for a couple of beers before my flight took off Sunday night. It was an excellent trip. Took care of hip and splits work at home while I waited for food to be delivered on Sunday night.

Intervals: 1/2, 2/2

Preparedness: beam routines 3/3, floor routines 1/6, vault 0/4, bars 3/4

Flexibility:  2/2, 2/2

Books read: 18% of book 1, 52% of book 2

So pretty good week for workouts. I only went to practice once, but I also lifted twice and went to the stadium. I also got in my interval work and my flexibility training and made serious progress on one of my books. Unfortunately, it looks like the gym is closing earlier than I thought it was this year for the school's final exams. As of right now, I can only go Monday and Thursday because it'll be closed this weekend and all next week... We shall see what happens for the gymnastics goals.

Day 3.1

tenor.gif

I had planned to go to gymnastics practice but couldn't get myself to commit to it after 3 days out of town and just being super busy last week. I just went home and CHILLED. OUT. and watched Marvelous Mrs. Maisel which was a perfect match for my "let's snuggle the cat, eat cheese, and not get off the couch for 5 hours" approach to yesterday.

Intervals: 1/2, 2/2, 0/2

Preparedness: beam routines 3/3, floor routines 1/6, vault 0/4, bars 3/4

Flexibility:  2/2, 2/2, 0/2

Books read: 18% of book 1, 52% of book 2

That being over however, means the rest of the week looks like this:

Tuesday: squat and bench, pick up some crafting things

Wednesday: conditioning class at the work gym, try to go cancel my extraneous gym membership, finish the last xmas gift I'm working on

Thursday: gymnastics

Friday: lunch yoga, deadlift and ohp after work, gift exchange

Saturday: informal in-house powerlifting meet (I may just do my openers from 2 weeks ago... in like a leotard and santa beard), 2 christmas parties

Sunday: gymnastics if the gym is miraculously allowing us to have sunday practice (a possibility but not a guarantee), another christmas party
