ixaera
The holidays are upon us! And you know what that means. Lots of socializing around booze and food, y'all. Lots of it. It is the true boss battle of the year. Acknowledging that this will already be hard, my goals are simple this challenge. 1) New program followage. I picked up Ben Pollack's powerbuilding program. I am going to do this program. Yessirree, all 16 weeks of it. 2) Reverse Diet. My cut ends literally tomorrow, but instead of just going directly to bulk cals, I'm going to step up 75 calories a week and continue the semi-IF approach I've been doing. Rules: Hit protein of 100g+. Don't go over on cals. We're not meal planning this challenge, but we are going to write down days we liked a lot as templates and log here when that happens. 3) One drink rule. One drink a day max. 12 oz for beer, 5 oz for wine, 1.5 oz for liquor. (Note: i don't actually drink remotely every day, more like once a week, but only one drink when I do drink is the challenge) 4) The budget continues out of necessity, since I had to take Zu to emergency and it was an obscene amount of money. Same as last time, but instead of a reward for following budget, 5) Every word written is .05 I can spend at the end of the challenge And yeah, I bought Sims 4 Cats & Dogs >.> (Before the cat vet issue, because I would not have justified it after, for sure...) Squat shoes should arrive tomorrow in time for Friday squats! (Assuming I have time for them, we leave around 10 am, which in sister-time is probably 11 am?) 3 Quote Link to comment

After we gave her the fluids she became her old self again. 1 Quote Link to comment

Which I like actually - the stiffness around the ankle gives me good proprioceptive feedback for what my ankles are actually doing. I wear mine a lot for overhead work - they keep me glued to the ground and less wobbles. 1 Quote Neutral Gargoyle Warrior with a dash of Ranger/Monk/Adventurer. Now LEVEL 9! ixaera
Zero week summary: Anyway, my weakness is for sure needing better strategies to deal with divergence from Real Life. Tuesday I chips and salsa'd all over the place because a friend was in town and he wanted Chuy's. I love Chuy's. I had a plan, and that was not having a drink and just having tortilla soup. Instead, I had a frozen strawberry margarita, at least my own basket of chips, and maybe a few bites of soup because by the time it arrived I was ready to pop I was sick with how full I was. Thanksgiving I went in ready again. I was gonna stick to turkey and veggies because I'm not a fan of stuffing and yams or anything anyway. I had smoked ham (DELICIOUS), like 2 rolls, and 2 brownies, and some of the fruit goop salad I made, and about 1000 calories overall, which was another deviation. Then Friday we took Mom to the casino for her birthday present. My family is the world's WORST at poor eating choices (I mean, I had to unlearn it for reasons, right) and I had the damnedest time finding anything to eat, so I ended up with junk/fast food, and too much alcohol because for some reason "no I'm good" translates to "please bring me more" with my siblings. And when I'm having trouble following a plan, it's a domino thing til I get it back in order, so when I got back? An ENORMOUS poke bowl, way too much food, oops. Think we're good now. Back in my normal environment and ready to go, but man... I'd like to figure out that out-of-element trick. I'm gonna need it over NYE weekend. Casino rant: My mom is 75 years old today. She's a spunky lady and I love her, but she's the reason I'm here. My mom is where excuses go to die. She's always had this or that reason why she "can't" and whatever she can't do is pretty much anything that involves physical activity or eating better. They are all always flimsy excuses, sometimes outright lies. She's diabetic, for example (type 2), and she "can't eat beans" because it's too many carbs. Which sure, I'm not an expert on what she can have, BUT folks I know how many carbs are in various beans, and I'm going to sit down here and tell you it's a lot less than in the rolls, cakes, cheetohs and other junk carbs she eats. She can't eat broccoli because "it gives her gas" and she has gut problems "because of all the antibiotics" she's taken for various normal amounts of infections over the years. She can't walk because there are dogs in the neighborhood, she can't walk in the backyard b/c the dog digs holes, she can't join a gym because of money (though this does not stop her from dropping hundreds on scratch off tickets), she can't, can't, can't And now here she is, a mere 75 years old, using the wheelchair at the casino because her can'ts have made her so immobile that she actually currently can't walk faster than 1 mph or cover a casino floor on her own. She spent the trip asking people to do just about everything for her (and of course we do, because oh the fuss if you suggest hey maybe you're still capable of that one, Mom). And this, this is why I do what I do. This is why I watch what I eat, try to get vegetables and get a variety of them, this is why I go to the gym and lift weights 4x a week, this is why I get off my ass at work and try to take walking breaks or hit the elliptical if I can't get those walks in. So that when I'm 75, hopefully I won't be stuck in a stupid chair, relying on other people to wheel me around and get me things. Her grandmother lived to 98 and mowed her own lawn til she was 94, and I believe firmly she got that far because she was mobile and she never just spent all day in the chair in front of a computer or the tv. You can bet her grandmother wasn't basically immobile by 75. Sometimes, folks, the biggest enemy is ourselves, and I see that person in me and I work with it, around it, whatever I have to do. I'm here to live my best life, and maybe fate will intervene and I won't be self sufficient at 75, but it damned well won't be because of denial and self-indulgence. 5 Quote Link to comment
Cataleya
THIS. POOP IS ON FIREEEEEE. [emoji91]More seriously, I totally feel you on ALL of this. I go into situations being like gonna do this and then get derailed by potatoes, bread, and anything new or sweet. And sometimes comments get to me. I usually manage to keep myself to one plate, but a comment someone made several years ago, don't even remember who or when, but basically saying Thanksgiving is for overeating, that sticks with me. Because I remember being like no, I don't want that to be me. But it's awkward when people call it out like you're the weird one.As for your mom, that sounds like my dad. He's the kind of guy that argues he needs hormones in his meat because of... some reason or other. Says he avoids certain not necessarily unhealthy foods because they're bad for him or something but I literally watched him make himself a tray of french fries (and just french fries) for lunch last weekend because he'd rather do that than go out and get a healthy lunch. He's also a chronic saboteur, especially when my mom tries to lose weight. Tracking my food has really helped with this because I can be like sorry, no more, I tracked it and don't want to go back in. But it doesn't work all the time. 2 Quote Cataleya Tries to Regain Her Balance Instagram | MyFitnessPal Link to comment

Yeah, when I'm a tryhard, Mom looks at my plate then says "so what are you like 90 lbs now?" (lol no... what?) So a lot of the time it's just easier to do what I want to do anyway, which is just eat brownies and nothing else lol (But I don't WANT to be that way, so, that's not a good reaction to that mess.) For some reason eating a plate of brownies is fine, but eating turkey and veggies and a roll or something and no dessert is bad? Oh the strange standards I just worry about my mom. I know at this point there's nothing I can do. If she's not sniping at me for what success I have had, she's whining about how she "should" but "can't" do this or that. I have tried suggesting she just do whatever she can, because even lapping the backyard a couple of times a day is better than nothing, but there's always something preventing her from leaving the easy chair or computer, and I know this is resulting in worse health earlier, and it just sucks seeing something so preventable take over someone's life. 14 hours ago, Urgan said: I don't think you will be walking your mom's path unless something freakish on the order of being hit in the head with a brick happens lol. ixaera
Day 1 New Program Day 1 - I did the thing today. Day 1 is the easy day (mostly). It is speed bench at a light weight and some 8's on shoulder presses. Then a bunch of bro stuff. I'm a little worried because the notes said "easy, fast day" and it still took an hour for the whole thing, which is more than fine on a Sunday, but I only have about an hour on the other days >.> We may be seeing shaved bro stuff, we'll see. Nothing spectacular to report here. Walked a bit after, just cuz I knew I'd be at home the rest of the day being lazy. Reverse Diet Hit goal today, hit protein too. Check. Week 1 of a reverse diet is less than exciting because my mind is like "yay no more cut!" and expects more food but that is not how this works, we are moving up SLOWLY body. SLOWLY. No matter what the mixed messages from Thanksgiving may have been >.> Random win: Went to restaurant with Keeb and ordered 2 eggs and toast for breakfast instead of one of the meals on the menu, all of which are over 600 cals Alcohol Didn't have any today. Budget Didn't spend any money today.
