in the spirit of SAY WHAT YOU WANT AND GET WHAT YOU NEED I took a hard look at my feelings right now and realized a few things:

 

1. I feel like I'm in a holding pattern. I'm not sure what I'm waiting for - january, when my husband is not at school on tuesdays and thursdays and I can try to do bigger weights at the dojo? the holidays so I can figure out if I'm going to gain weight again like I did last time?

2. I'm bummed that I gained weight last year over the holidays and held onto it all year. I mean, I'm bummed that 2 years ago I gained weight after the holidays and got out of my "goal range" and haven't lost that weight either. 

2a. I'm bummed that I feel like I'm in a holding pattern with this too? like, I know how to take action, why am I not taking action?

 

so goals!

1. Be deliberate and careful as I walk through the holiday season

yo don't get frustrated again this year, ok?

which means... prioritize daily tracking of food again. get it all in, every day. prioritize daily weighs, too.

 

2. Be deliberate about moving.

it turns out I don't like running right now (because I don't seem to be doing it). Ok, that's fine. 

do 3x bodyweight every week. do 2x yoga every week also. soooo this is a M-W-F schedule for BW, and a T-Th for yoga. I can do this. 

for bodyweight I'm looking at the academy... it's been ages since I've done anything there. I think I'm at level 3? according to the things? just, whatever. Just do those workouts this week (week 1).

 

3. Be deliberate about push-ups! 

dude, you say you want to do these all the time. so learn how to do them already!

use the start bodyweight progression for push-ups. SELF, you can DO THIS.  do it every day. 3 sets of 8, every day.

 

4. BE DELIBERATE ABOUT SLEEP.

a lot of my issues with exercising is that I'm waaaaaay too tired. no screens in bed any more. don't read until the wee hours. get into bed at 9-9:15, and go to sleep. get up at 5AM. there, easy, right?

Oh girl.   I feel like every challenge, I come here and shout TWINSIES.

 

But yeah, I am up 15lbs from my 2 year ago goal weight, that I can't seem to lose again.     Every time I start going crazy with 'must be something wrong', I stop and go, 'or maybe you are just not being nearly as consistent and accurate as you think you are'.

 

I also am not running this go around!  Hah.   Walks and strength and daily mobility stuff.   (I ought to do that sleep thing too, but too much to focus on at once is bad mmkay.)

 

Anyway, I'm here to root you on, (root you on?) and ya know, try to do the same thing you are doing.

hello mammalian friends!

 

I'm already behind on the push-ups. I'M OK THOUGH. I'LL DEAL WITH IT.

 

I kind of didn't do anything Su-M. but, this morning I got up and did a more-difficult-than-imagined yoga class! it was good. my legs were shaking. I realized for the first time that I am leading with my butt... kind of? there's something wrong about the sequence of my movements into and out of chaturanga from high plank or into upward or downward facing dog. (yo whats up dog?) I *think* this is an upper and core body strength gap, maybe.

 

last night was hard to get to sleep and I slipped on screens this morning, I read some internet before getting up to do the yoga. darn it, this is a tough habit to break. but, I was good from about 930-5AM.

 

tonight is tkd with the other instructor. I'm pretty tired, and our first batch of xmas cookies from vendors was delivered. I had 3.

ALSO this morning I realized I had let my loseit premium subscription, grandfathered in at a HUGE discount, lapse. I had a moment of panic before I realized that there was a loop hole and I repurchased at the same cheap price. I mean, $14.99/year is easy to do. $39.99/year is a little more. BUT I'M SAFE FOR NOW!

Hmmm I didn't see anything in the challenge goals about being deliberate about power madness....

I also have a controlled-internet-usage goal in my challenge, and UGH WHY IS THIS THING SO ADDICTIVE :grumpy: So much respect to you for your sleep schedule, that's awesome.

thanks! but... I'm up late tonight. I had to finish up something for work and am just going to head off to bed now. THAT SAID I will still get up at 5, and do the bodyweights things. because I just HAVE TO.

um, I have to be assassiny about SOME things and be secretive. 

or maybe it should just be UNDERSTOOD?

 

 

re: pushups. yeah kind of? on the pushUP parts anyway. but I thought I needed to be more stiff-as-a-board and less butt-sticks-up-first-then-body-follows. and when I'm going from chaturanga to upward facing dog the yoga lady on the tv this morning does this mid-air transition, and I drop my pelvis down to the floor. I think I can do a more-similar mid-air transition without resting my pelvis (gravity is so strong) but I never noticed before this morning that this is a thing.

OH I FORGOT TO TELL YOU. 

we have so many mice. (OK TWO.) one was just chilling on the counter when I got home next to a trap I'd set this morning and I threw something at it and it just ignored me and kept munching. I avoided eye contact after that and made my own dinner and took it into another room. another one ran around on the dining room floor while I was working and Ella Olga Babygoat Torturekitty Murderclaws herded it around until I could capture it and throw it outside. Ella isn't that interested in actually catching and killing mice, but she's generally pretty good at keeping an eye on them until I can put a cup over the top of them.

this is normal winter stuff - the first couple of really cold weeks = the outdoor mice trying to move indoors with us in our big old drafty full-of-holes farmhouse. BUT IT'S STILL GROSS AND WEIRD.

High plank is the top part of the push up, chaturange is the bottom part, but with elbows close together. Any transition between them is literally half a push up and all the cues apply, so ideally yes you should be stiff as a board. But if someone's not strong enough (keep in mind these are slightly harder than regular push ups) then typically the butt will either rise first or it will sag. 

 

Resting your pelvis on the floor in the chaturange to upward dog transition is an easier variation I'd say, but the "proper" transition is as you say in midair. When you're in your lowest chaturange just imagine there's someone a few meters a way from you pulling you up by chains connected to your nipples. ;) Doing the transition in midair will also strengthen the bottom part of your push ups.

I did my 3x8 push-ups last night right before bed. I am starting w wall push-ups and going allllll the way down.

This morning I didn't spring out of bed at 5 but I did do academy bw 3a before my shower, which includes step-ups, push-ups, and band pull aparts, followed by some heinous side planks. My side plank has slipped! I did 2x 45 sec on each side. Also, modified the reps for the push-ups so I ended up doing 4x8 wall push-ups.

UGH I DID THE THING CAN I GO BACK TO W A NOVEL NOW?

We get this too. Omar is our resident mouser. I found a dead one in on the floor in the hallway under a knitted cat bed. I'm not sure if he was saving it for later or just got bored. But yes--all the GROSS AND WEIRD!! :grumpy:

My and my husband are both THE WORST about mice. Either of us will hear one shuffling around and our immediate reaction is "OMG! It's probably cute!" and name it and get really attached so even getting it out of the house, let alone killing it, seems too cruel.

My old apartments had mice all the time, but we haven't had much of a problem since Dunkin stinks up the place.

The mouse kill count at my dads house is 5 for him, 1 for the cat (this is generous since we found the cat NEAR the dead mouse) and 1 for a barbie. I have a lot of mouse stories...
