Murphy's Roommate
I had a run last week, and there is good news and bad news. Good news is I passed, and can still cover a mile and a half in a tidge under thirteen minutes. Bad news is my shins are a mess again, my ankle kicked back up, and I feel pretty chewed up. I could decide I'm not good at running and leave it at that. Instead, I'm going to find and take some pose running classes and fix my form. Several people that I consider knowledgeable on this not hurting yourself stuff have recommended pose running to me, it can't be any worse than what I'm doing to myself now. Goals: Tai Chi - continue Ending showers cold - continue Ice baths - I can't seem to get any momentum here, so I'm letting these go for now. Running - three sub goals Buy and read the pose running book Take the classes Practice Practice Practice I'd like to be able to run for the rest of my life, instead of being like a lot of guys I know. They were fit when they were younger, but are now just a mess of chronic injuries they fought through. For now, doing intervals just to keep running with minimal impact as I line the above up. - Murphy's Roommate 2 Quote Link to comment

I've never heard of pose running classes. That sounds really helpful! Jakkals
You wrote something last challenge about pose running, so I am also trying it. Just not sure I am doing it right. Murphy's Roommate
Rey - thought about you when I found my old planar fasciwatsis socks a few days ago. Going to start wearing them again as tight calves seem to be a common thread in all my current injuries. Jakkals - I was briefly exposed to pose running by a co-worker, then a physical therapist friend of mine recommended it to me after she heard about my injuries. There is at least one clinic that teaches it out here (Colorado Springs), and it is worth it to me to pay for it. I'm in my late 30's, once or twice a year I have to take and pass a test that involves a mile and a half run, pushups, situps, waist measurement. Training for the run has gotten worse and worse. Old injuries are coming back to haunt me. On the other hand, if I can make it several more years, there is a good pension. Not enough to retire on, but enough to start a second career. So it is worth it to squeeze now to make it to the end. And I have no idea if I'm doing it right - yet. On today. Shins still hurt. Walked the dog, found the clinic that teaches pose running out here. Tomorrow, it is time to make an appointment. I am very fortunate that my boss knows what I am going through, and has gone through it himself. He will likely be flexible in my hours. - Murphy's Roommate 2 Quote Link to comment

They didn't really seem to be having an impact, so I'm trying to get back into more stretching. I think that might be the key but I just haven't been very disciplined with it in recent months. And the lack of activity seems to not be working either, so I'm trying to ease back into things with some walking. I'm glad your boss is willing to work with your schedule! Murphy's Roommate
Tai Chi and showers are going well. Getting the book (I'd like to read the theory then get the lesson) and I need to set the lesson. Still. Sigh. Always one more thing. - Murphy's Roommate 1 Quote Link to comment
Murphy's Roommate
Sigh. And now I has teh plague. Flu like symptoms. Bleh. Time to do Tai Chi and get some chill time in. May not make it to work tomorrow. My bosses are rather adamant about people staying home if they are potentially infectious. Keeps the work force healthy and more productive, making people stay home when ill actually improves overall effectiveness. And we (the big organization) had a guy come in with no kidding influenza and a 105 degree fever. Really not a good thing, and I hope he didn't somehow get me. - Murphy's Roommate 2 Quote Link to comment
Murphy's Roommate
Rought Rough Raggy - the Pose running book showed up in the mail. Also a new helmet (my Black Friday buy - only been planning that one for a year!). The mailman was good to me today! - Murphy's Roommate 1 Quote Link to comment

Murphy's Roommate
Aaaand... Not so much. The Plague continues. Very well, challenge accepted! I shall destroy this cold, scorch the ground it lived on, salt the earth! Oh, wait, I live there to... Okay, maybe a slightly more holistic approach of simply purging this cold like a Soviet Dictatorship. Back to the getting better mines! - Murphy's Roommate 2 Quote Link to comment

Murphy's Roommate
Got annoyed with just sitting around the house, hoping to get better, so I grabbed a power drill and mounted some lights on my hybrid. They still need to be properly tightened down, and I need to drill a hole through the firewall, and um, yeah, it is pretty sketchy right now, but I did something instead of staring at Netflix. Then I went back and stared at Netflix some more. I am mostly proud that I only drilled one extra hole, and lost one crush washer. And didn't electrocute myself, or start any fires by accident. Or short anything out. I've had some woopsies when using tools. I've seen or heard of some really big whoopsies. So anytime they are avoided, that is a win. - Murphy's Roommate 2 Quote Link to comment
Murphy's Roommate
Went to bed last night at 8. Was awake by 11. Until about 3 a.m. - because my body thought it was on night shift. Awesome. Tried to go into work today, that was a mistake. Sigh. You'd think I would learn. Felt like re-hammered dog crap. Starting to get better I think. Or maybe I'm just an optimist. Another day. - Murphy's Roommate 1 Quote Link to comment

Murphy's Roommate
Not dead yet! Had a lovely trip to the panhandle of Florida, was on sketchy hotel internets, so no posting. Need to put an aggressive anti-virus on my laptop - any suggestions? The last week was a wash fitness wise. Personal happiness - I drank Yuengling every night, which is a great beer I cannot get out here, played Xcom 2, and work was awesome. On the relevant side, I'm past the plague, and getting back on track. Goodness abounds. It was really good to professionally touch base for a week and refocus. Life is good. - Murphy's Roommate 1 Quote Link to comment
