PS: To those of you younger than me, which I'm certain is all of you, here is some information. When you are in your forties and say to yourself, "I'm going to work out today," you are also saying, "I am making the decision to hurt all over tomorrow."

Advice noted. :D

I often get very whiny these days (I'm over 45), for many of the same reasons.

To be honest, that's a lot of why I'm here. I'm pushing back as hard as I can against middle age.

Have I been missing out on some porny writing? (Just taking a wild guess what the one thing is.) I've only got like one actual sex scene in it, but I kind of seized up halfway through and haven't revisited it yet. :)

I am suuuuuper rusty at writing fiction. I'm a lot more self-aware now than when I was last time I tried it. It was (and will continue to be) a good exercise and a little humbling to not only figure out my limitations, but also realize my strengths. And now I've got like a third of a novel manuscript to keep hammering away on! And a stack of books to do some research to fill in the gaps. Because that is how I effin' roll.

Heyyyy fitness right

Good elliptical workout this afternoon. One silver lining to my phone dying last weekend is that I now have a new phone that can run Netflix, and today I discovered that Netflix + Zombies Run work great together.

IT IS A SNEAKY BASTARD

Saturday! Kickboxing class done, meditation done, got some extra arm reps in by sawing up fallen limbs in the back yard. This is definitely not something I could have done after a workout class a couple of years ago.

Well, I was watching a Star Wars cartoon. :) But they have filmed Walking Dead literally blocks from my gym/office, so there's that.

I am reminding myself that the easiest of my previous books took a year to write, so I should not be hassling myself to rush through a novel when I've never written a novel before. So there's that.

I'm about to sneak out to the gym for a bodyweight workout. One week of work and then I'm off all next week!

So, I got to the gym, did my bodyweight workout, and then just added half an hour of cardio. NBD.

Apparently I missed a long fire alarm evacuation while I was at the gym.

I am enjoying an afternoon snack of calorie-free fizzy water and a delicious pear. (Um, after a lunch of pasta.)

Half the university gym is now closed for renovation, so for a change I went for a run on the indoor track. Much more promising start to the fitness week than I had last week.

Hi everybody!

This morning I moderated a panel of comics authors for an online library event. I was super nervous about it but it was cool and fun once it started, as I'd hoped. And that should be the most stressful thing I have to do this week.

I was going to at least get out for a walk this afternoon, but it's cold and rainy (dropped 20 degrees from yesterday), so I think it's a rest day. I plan to hit the gym again Friday (for undecided workout) and then I have kickboxing on Saturday.

Cool! What did you talk about?

I started asking questions about representation in comics, they all got talking, and I just kind of backed out of the way while audience questions came in. Then I picked through the audience Q&A chat and read my favorite questions aloud to them. It was pretty good and not nearly as stressful as I feared it would be. My friend who "attended" (it was all via webcam) said she couldn't tell I was nervous, so, that's a win for coffee, ativan, meditation and Wu-Tang this morning.

Weather intervened in my fitness plan for today. I didn't make it to the work gym, as it is snowing in Atlanta this afternoon and the university shut down and sent us home. (This is not really a complaint.)

Kickboxing gym says so far that they'll be open tomorrow morning, so I should get my workout in. (If not, maybe I'll do a run once the snow is gone.)

And then, hey, we all get go hang out with KarinaJean in New York City on Monday afternoon! That'll be awesome, right guys? ... Oh wait, that's just me? Jeez, sorry, this is a little awkward. Look, don't be all jealous, it's unattractive.

This is genuinely true. We only get snow a few days a year, so when it does happen we don't have:

  • snowplows
  • salt or whatever it is they put on the roads to melt it
  • tire chains? that's a thing, right?
  • experience driving in it

And I think it must actually be more efficient to just have some stuff close for a day or two rather than have an infrastructure in place for all that, when it almost always melts away after a day or so.

It snowed all night and is still snowing a little this morning. Kickboxing gym says that they did open this morning, but rather than deal with slick roads and dangerous drivers I'm just going to tomorrow morning's class instead. It'll get warm enough this afternoon to clear the roads, and I have stuff I can do around the house today to get ready for the trip. We're going to have to get up ungodly early (middle of the night, really) for Monday morning flight, and we have tickets to a Sunday night show that Ms Rogue bought before this trip came up, so we'll probably go for an hour or so of that and then get home for a little sleep.

Thanks! It'll be great. And I'll have time and motivation to use the hotel gym every day. (I'm still looking skeptically at my plan to run in Central Park in December. I might save that for next visit.)
