Six Respawns as a Spartan

Assassins!  What is your profession!!!

After fizzling out on the forums and spending a few months in transition--I'm back!  My primary quest can be found in the battle logs, but I want to get in on the four-week challenge too.

As a quick update:

I started a new job in private practice and have been re-evaluating time management both at work and at home.  I learned this morning that I have actually lost weight, but it just goes to show how meaningless that number is because I have more of a paunch and less muscle mass than when I slowed down with NF and weighed more.

While I have been really worried about the time commitment needed to be active on NF -- I need some accountability in my life.  And let's be honest, you all are the best.

During this challenge, I want to:

(1) reduce my excess

5 Points will be awarded for (a) budgeting (b) avoiding sugar (c) limiting media/social media use

(2) Galvanize my body

10 Points will be awarded for tasks within the Wim Hof Method: (a) breathing cycle (2) stretching session/yoga (c) cold exposure

10 Points will be awarded for actually committing to a full workout of some kind.

(3) Sharpen my weapon [mind]

15 Points will be awarded for recreational/educational reading of at least a half-hour per day.

Naturally, the goal will be to achieve 300 points in time for Christmas so that I can parade around in the snow wearing only a loincloth and scarlet cape with honor.  Ha.

Let's do this.

Reporting for Duty!

I know I had a late start to the challenge, but so far-so good.  I have done more intensive breathing both Wednesday and Thursday than I had done in months and held my breath for 3 minutes last night.  One of the added benefits of the Wim Hof method for me is that the breathing exercises put me in an excellent headspace for meditation.  I might need to re-evaluate my point structure because I'm already at 55/300 points...

Another Wim Hof Practitioner :)  Following along to hear how that goes

Thanks to those following along as I get back into the swing of things.  @WhiteGhost I'd love to hear more about your experience with Wim Hof.

Haha, my experience so far is reading along with @zenLara (aka the Wolverine) as she has gone through it. I know there are others doing it as well and I find it completely fascinating. I may do it at some point, but no way am I going to start cold showers in the middle of winter :D

Oh hey! I just got back to the forums again as well.

How long have you been doing the Wim Hof training? I love cold showers, but that's the closest thing I've tried so far.

It's funny because I get more excited than I can remember that winter is coming because it expands my cold training options.

Welcome back Talos!  I've been (inconsistently) doing the Wim Hof training since last winter.  I've really enjoyed all of it, but I definitely feel the most immediate benefit from the breathing exercises.

The coldest exposure I've done was a dip into a creek while there was still snow on the ground.  To be honest, I probably over-did it because I experienced afterdrop  for a few hours afterward.  But the cold training is fun.  I definitely did some barefoot and shirtless calisthenic sets in full snow-storms and felt pretty darn good.

Ok, I am going to be reducing the point values.  The challenge shouldn't be too easy, right?

Update:

(1) reduce my excess

I've been good about saying no or having moderate amounts of sugar.  I have also been better at steering clear of social media.  BUT I haven't done my budgeting at all.  It's      hard during the holidays, but money is such a huge stressor that it will go a long way to get it under control.  + 7 pts.

(2) Galvanize my body

No full workouts, but I've gotten some legit WHM work in. +14 pts

(3) Sharpen my weapon [mind]

      Ugh. 0 pts

What books are you trying to read?

I'm about 3/4 through American Gods and I'm also working on A Beautiful Practice by Frank Forencich.

Update:

(1) reduce my excess

Considering the cake, kettle corn, and sugar cookies that currently adorn my countertops -- still doing well with the sugar regulation.  On a dietary offshoot, I have tried Earl Grey + Coconut Oil a few times over the past few days (in the vein of Tim Ferriss' Titanium Tea) and it has done wonders for my mental clarity.  I am seriously considering the jump to Keto. +2 pts

(2) Galvanize my body

Today's exercise from The Art of Stopping Time calls for a HIIT.  My plan is to do a HIIT workout tonight after the kids are down for the night.

I can't convey the level to which the WHM has improved my general cold resistance.  It was hovering near 30 degrees F. this morning and I didn't feel the need for a coat.  I practiced some intermittent hot/cold exposure during the car ride by rolling the windows down and then blasting the heater.  +2 pts

(3) Sharpen my weapon [mind]

      Maybe at lunch today...

I also want to give a shout-out to @Lilmissbri for keeping me accountable and incorporating that into her own challenge.
