Joining the latecomers to the December challenge

Recommended Posts

I've been around NF a while, joined in September, meant to join this challenge when it started, but got sidetracked. As this is my first challenge, I'm going to start small.

Goal 1: I will drink 1 gallon of water a day, the occasional Sprite is fine, as long as I meet my water goal for that day. I have already cut out all caffeine, though that was for health reasons.

Goal 2: I will walk daily, either on the treadmill or at the church across the street (they have a 1/3 mile walking path). This is the only time I can use my Kindle. So, I get my walking in and get a chance to lose myself in a book. I will do this in the hour I have between my husband leaving for work and when I need to get the kids up to get ready for school. I will keep the same schedule on weekends as well. I have found I do better with my sleep schedule if I don't sleep in those days.

Goal 3: I will continue tracking my food intake, using My Fitness Pal, I am adding a calorie goal of 1200 calories. If I don't have a goal to hit, I usually don't get more than 700-800 calories a day, since I forget to eat a lot...

I have other goals, but they will be added with the next challenge, so I don't do too much, too soon. As my bad habit is to go all or nothing, and one slip up has me throwing in the towel... I wish to change that, as such I am currently working my way through the Mindset portion of the Academy.

Welcome to the Newbies with the rest of us!

With the Kindle and walking goal I hear you. When I used to do trail running I always had an audio book playing to enjoy new books and get some quality me time. Being able to carve some time out for yourself and enjoy reading is always a plus and helps keep you centered for the day ahead. I look forward to seeing how well you do!

hey and welcome!

I'm happy you're focusing on your calorie goal. Do you currently track your calories using an app or something? You're right, 700-800 is not very much, and gradually increasing it will probably be very good for you. Do you have some ideas for how you're going to do that (besides, you know: "eat more")?

Set an alarm for every 4 hours to remind me to eat something, even if it's just a protein shake.

I will go shopping Thursday and pick up healthy snacks and stuff to make bentos again. I work from home, so I get lazy about my lunches when I don't make them ahead of time.

I had to run to the store earlier for snacks for husband to munch on at work, so I picked up stuff for a protein based breakfast.

Currently I am Level 3 on the NF Diet, and with the stuff I picked up I can start my 2 weeks of protein breakfasts without relying on Slim Fast shakes. (I know, not the best but I'm not a breakfast person, I generally do Intermittent Fasting by habit.) So, the SF shakes are the best thing I can find normally to start my day with.

Slim Fast shakes, even the ones made from powder have so much sugar in them they almost make me sick. Sugar and I don't get along anymore. Super sweet drinks, coffee with 1 serving of flavoured creamer, baked sweets, sweets of any kind. They all make me want to puke, so I have lowered my sugar intake greatly.
I have that problem with pre-workout, normal protein shakes, even BCAAs, they're all super sweet, and if I'm not careful, I'll get sick mid workout.

Still looking for non added sugar versions of those.

But, I've conquered caffeine, I drink nothing but water and the occasional Sprite, which is a conscious decision to have one by buying it at the store. So, all my sugary drinks are gone and taken care of. So I see myself on Level 3 on the NF Diet.

Hello Khuja!  Welcome to the game!

Your Challenge goals all look good.  They’re specific, clear, and measurable. :encouragement:.   The only thing missing is a Main Quest.  What’s the bigger idea that you’re hoping to make progress toward by acheiving these (and future) Challenge quests?

Done on the signature.

Main quest, hmm. To have a strong and functional body that will last me as long as possible. Size 8, able to do all of my daily stuff without fatigue, pain, and have my body in the best shape I can in the event I ever need to have a kidney transplant (2 Kidney diseases make that inevitable)

I've failed in the past in all my attempts to change myself. So I am going to start small and build basic habits to get there eventually.

Getting ready to plan my second challenge, so figured I would do a little look back and report in.

1- Drink 1 gallon of water a day - 62% met

I filled a gallon water jug daily, but didn't always take it with me, which led to sometimes drinking too much water later in the day which resulted in too many late night wc runs.

Do differently - Take the jug with me every where, and start drinking when I get up at 5 am. Will likely carry this over to next challenge, but not 100% sure.

2- Walk daily either with treadmill/elliptical/church path - 30% met

I started out okay, but then found out my treadmill was busted, and the elliptical sucks for reading while using, and I did not have a planned time for doing it, so it ended up forgotten a lot.

Do differently - Set a time for this daily, and put it in my planner - Not 100% sure on carrying this over, but will likely do it, as I need to get my rear in gear and move more, in any fashion.

3- Track my food in take using My Fitness Pal - 80%met

I kept my phone on me, but still didn't log some days until the next day. I cook at home alot, and don't usually use recipes, so it's sometimes hard to do calorie counting that way, I did find a website that let you figure out calories in a typed up recipe, but that doesn't help my habit of throwing meals together.

Do differently - Plan my meals better, less fast food in the morning, also plug in my most used recipes into that website to plug them into MFP manually and save them.

Over all, better progress than my usual attempts, I did manage to do it more often then I expected, even if I did get intimidated from missing a day or two of posting on here then just said forget it and decided to quit because by then I had missed so much , I felt even worse.
