I have to start this thread by saying (and hoping I don't jinx it!) WE FOUND A HOUSE!!

We have a contract, and a closing date (January 18th) we will have to see if third time is a charm...we also have pre-approval and closing costs but I digress, we had those with the last one but hurricanes happen...

A lot of the below portion was typed out over several hours into an open post...if it doesn't all make sense I apologize in advance...

I will be fine tuning and refining this before next week...but as I stated at the closing of my last challenge

Quote

One thing I am failing to wrap my brain around is how, when I do everything the way I'm 'supposed' to do it (according to?) I still manage to gain weight rather than lose...no it's not muscle, my clothes do not fit any better, I'm honest about everything I put in my mouth and working out for an hour 3 to 4 days a week...it's no different than when I do nothing and it's very discouraging....I've checked hormone levels, thyroid, etc...all fine...only thing wonky is my vitamin D levels and my liver enzymes...not sure if that would have anything to do with it but this has been over the last several years and everything I try has the opposite effect of what I want it to have...I'm beyond frustrated...

In my head I keep saying I need to ignore the scale and such and just do what I enjoy and makes me feel good...but that's difficult when I want to break down and cry every time I look in the mirror...I can't stand to look at pictures of me from 6 years ago, or heck, even 3 years ago...wouldn't exactly say I was healthy then but I think a combination of what I did then and what I do now...I know whatever I'm doing now isn't working so I need to rethink it...On January 2nd I'll be here 4 years...always thought I'd be closer to my goals by now, not further away.

I used to be the person that went out and had fun, I need to do this again. The job that I had (restaurant management) left little time for eating (mostly done on my feet) and a lot of walking/moving, I need to do this again

I used to be the person who didn't worry about what they ate, not saying that was the best thing for me to do because a lot of it was junk, but maybe I don't need to obsess as much as I do now...

I used to only eat once or twice a day, when I was hungry....and stop when I was full...I need to do this again

I used to be the person who worked a 12 hour shift, got her homework done, and still made time to do the things she really wanted to as long as her schedule allowed...if it didn't then I didn't feel bad about using the time to catch up on sleep...maybe I need to do this again as well...

1. Move every day. Back then they didn't have fitness trackers, but I was on my feet 10-12 hours a day so I know I got a workout in. I have a desk job now but I have a lot of leeway, during season this will be easier but during the off season it's too easy to sit at my desk and not do much. I want to start getting at least 10,000 steps a day, and one day of kickboxing a week.  The first two weeks I will start with 6,000 steps (5k distance) and increase from there.

2. Eat when hungry, stop when full. Counting calories and carbs is not working for me. I need to stop obsessing over having breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. I'll eat when I get hungry, if that means I don't eat breakfast then so be it. If lunch isn't until 2pm that's fine. The only thing is it has to be real food, not fast food, not junk. Mostly veggies and some protein.

3. Beyond checking in here (which I still intend to stick with 3x a week) I need to stop making plans and canceling them for whatever reason...be it my wife is working late, I talk myself out of it, etc...work obligations notwithstanding...or if sleep really is an issue (which should not be the case before season).

I am also going to be taking that long-awaited (by my boss) vacation to set up my house after we close :D things should be a lot easier after this gets done...can't wait till I can open a door and let the dogs out into the yard!

Following along again. Does your new house have room for a horse?

Even though I grew up mostly in Texas, and lived on a horse ranch that rented stables in Utah, they have never been my thing...my niece loves them, me, not so much :D I plan on a horse free existence in the house!

On your left

Lets do this!

Must have been really tired today, went back to sleep after the wife left for work and didn't wake up till 10 am when my phone rang! Need to go in to work today to finish up payroll then check on a friend who had surgery yesterday. I feel like I'm the only person who would rather be at work during this holiday break, probably because anything would be better than being in this RV right now...

I'm going to post my plans for the week here during my weekly check in for accountability. This week I have Holiday Block Party on Friday, on Monday they have one kickboxing class at 7 am then a polar plunge (which isn't as bad as it sounds here, been in the 80's this week lol) afterwards that I would like to go to, neck has been giving a lot of issues so we'll see if it's possible.

I don't know if you have a fitness tracker now, but you can knock out about 1200 steps every ten minutes if you keep a pace of 2 steps per second. I set a timer for a hours every night and knock out ten minute chunks at a time.

Love this goal! Some people are wired to eat 6x a day. I, however am not. Eating when you're hungry and not eating when you aren't is a good way to go about things. I'm rooting for you, RES ;)

I do have one now! :D that's a great idea though...it even has a setting to remind me to get up and move!

That's about what we're doing, we decided to go with a house instead of a condo because of the dogs  Well, and because 2 condo's that we had under contract fell through...

 Thanks hon! In all honesty I never tried to do the 'three meals a day' till I got in my current relationship...not surprising that's about the time the weight started going up...we've been working opposite shifts and I've been paying closer attention to when I'm hungry...lot of times it's not till somewhere between 11-2, might be on to something here! :D

Found something interesting today...was taking a quiz related to issues with sticking to new year resolutions

https://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/3706759/Gretchen-Rubin-s-Quiz-The-Four-Tendencies

it said I am an Obliger...which in reading sounds exactly like me! Basically boils down to I don't like to let others down but have no problem letting myself down <_<

"Obligers may find it difficult to form a habit, because often we undertake habits for our own benefit, and Obligers do things more easily for others than for themselves. For Obligers, the Strategy of Accountability is the crucial strategy of habit formation. For instance, if you’re trying to exercise more, you might:

• Hire a fitness trainer, personal organizer, financial planner, coach, nutritionist, or other accountability partner

• Team up with a friend who will be disappointed if you don’t follow through, or take a class with a teacher who will notice if you don’t participate

• Consider yourself as a role model to children, employees, friends, and the like, to be an example of fulfilling commitments, showing respect for yourself, or modeling good behavior"

Strike the third one...I'm no role model  not sure how to incorporate it yet, (yes, I know find someone to hold me accountable but sometimes easier said than done) but it explains why with kickboxing I was able to make myself go (to the point I aggravated my neck injury too much to deal with and I had to scale back) because the trainers there hold you accountable...it also explains why when my wife talks like she doesn't want to go to the gym or makes excuses not to I don't go either, not that I have to go with her but she gets moody if I go without her :blue:

In a perfect world there would be someone local who's schedule coincides with mine and I would be letting them down to skip a trip to the gym...online is too easy to be tempted to skip, I need someone who will physically be waiting on me and not listen to excuses :apthy:

So...for accountability purposes...weather is nasty and cold now (of course) so an hours drive to kickboxing and polar plunge did not happen today, however, I did go to the gym and got my steps in! I had planned on going yesterday but got lazy and didn't...

Called my wife on the way home and she said she was going to ask if I wanted to go this evening when she got off work...we'll see if it actually happens, I would be surprised if it did considering how hung over she was today  the very funny thing is we only went to a friends, shot off fireworks, and in bed by 10:30 cause she had to get up at 5:30 for work...8 beers in 4 hours will do that I guess...I was good and didn't drink, I want to see if it makes a difference in my liver enzymes when I go back to the Dr. later this month.

Update time...after Monday the only other day I got all my step goal in was yesterday, in which I did go to the 5k, even though my wife had to work.

Z8NPTvns.jpg

Food was good with one 'cheat' meal, been doing very well with only eating when hungry...for the most part have been skipping breakfast and only eating twice a day.

While I didn't post on my thread every day I did check in and post somewhere on NF everyday except yesterday.

The cold here has not been my friend and my neck/shoulder have been acting up more than usual, I need to find another chiropractor.

It looks like we may be able to move our closing date on the house up to Friday :D  we will hopefully know more by tomorrow!

This week has started off on the right foot, went to the gym today before the wife went to work! :D

Well hello there...

tenor.gif

I hear you about the food obsessing.  I had to quit tracking my macros and get back to eating when I was hungry and stopping when I wasn't and asking myself a lot of questions before snacking.  It's hard!  I try to make sure I'm getting some protein every meal, but otherwise, I've set myself free.  Such freedom!!  We only get so much time on this earth right?  I dont want to spend more time thinking about my diet than savoring the good bits. :D

One of the things I have learned about myself is that overthinking macros and counting calories was ultimately detrimental. In the short term I could get some results, but the willpower cost and fatigue of tracking led to worse binging than if I hadn't been tracking in the first place.

I agree. I know that IIFYM works well for a lot of people here. I would rather take the time to cook fresh food than to research the nutritional content of it.

Good going RES on getting to the gym and eating when you are hungry. Especially for skipping the beer at the party. I was curious so I did the math. One 12oz bottle of beer (our local favorite) is 150 calories. So 8 beers is 1200 calories, all carbs. Anyone who does that much drinking often is going to have trouble maintaining their target weight.

Excellent news on the house! I hope packing, closing and moving go smoothly. Third time's the charm.

ALLLLLLLLL of this...yes, exactly!! And so frustrating when I would be 100% honest, keep under calories, and gain 3 lbs by the end of the week...I just can't wrap my brain around it

Me too!

Skipping beer is easy for me, I hate the stuff, now give me wine, or liquor, and that's a lot tougher to turn down
