CJ the (soon-to-be) Mighty
2017 was an amazing year for me and involved the biggest changes my life has ever gone through. Bigger then going away to school, bigger than getting my own house, bigger then getting married... in 2017, I became a Dad! Since the bulk of this years focus was on waiting for and finally taking care of a baby; things like eating sensibly, working out, and taking time for myself were put on the back-burner. In 2018 though, I am going to put more emphasis on taking care of myself and setting a good example for my daughter. To that end here are my quests for this first challenge. Lift: I plan on lifting 3 days per week following this plan. Monitor: I will be charting my calories daily into my LoseIt! app. I will try to stay at my goal that it sets, but my real challenge is holding myself accountable for recording what I eat. Cook: I have been extremely bad about fast-food for the past year and it needs to stop. I will not be eating at any restaurant that has a drive through over the course of this challenge. Read: I will set aside time for my self to read daily. This reading will be from books, because when I try to read off of electronic devices I find myself jumping around and not really focusing on the story. I will start officially tracking my stats on these 4 challenges starting on January 1, but will use the next couple of days to get adjusted to them and possibly make any necessary changes. Good luck everyone! 7 Quote "Destiny is important, see, but people go wrong when they think it controls them. Hypotheticalfox
Good luck! It’s so easy to lose yourself in parenting, especially with things like reading that get blown off for sleep or tv, but it’s so necessary. CJ the (soon-to-be) Mighty
In order to incentive myself I am look at giving myself a reward for hitting a 90% or better success rate on my 4 quests. I am thinking of the reward to be a new board game and right now I am leaning towards Terraforming Mars, but if anyone has any other suggestions on possible board game purchases throw them my way. 3 Quote "Destiny is important, see, but people go wrong when they think it controls them. zeroh13
Congrats on becoming a dad! The only board game I've played recently (in the past few years) was Pandemic (which I thoroughly enjoy). I also like Smash Up, but that's a card game, not a board game. So I'm not the best at suggestions here... That Terraforming Mars game does look interesting though. Good luck with everything! 2 1 Quote Current Challenge: Zeroh, stick to the routine! CJ the (soon-to-be) Mighty
Recap for Jan. 1 Lift: I did Workout A from my plan, which involved squats, bench and a ton of rows. Everything felt good today, but I am going to be achy tomorrow. Monitor: I logged everything that I ate for the day and even stayed under my calorie limit. Cook: When it is below zero and I have the day off, I have absolutely no desire to leave the house, so this one was easy. Read: I started The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin and got through the first couple of chapters (and will be reading more before bed), so far it's been mostly world building, but it's off to a good start. 3 Quote "Destiny is important, see, but people go wrong when they think it controls them. CJ the (soon-to-be) Mighty
Recap for Jan. 2 Lift: Today was a (much needed) rest day and I dealt with my soreness by foam rolling and stretching - still very sore though. Monitor: I continued charting calories today and it felt good. My overenthusiastic LoseIt said that I would reach my goal weight (which involved losing 125+ lbs) by September, which I don't think is right. Cook: I faced temptation today when I made a quick run to the grocery store, but I successfully drove past all of the local fast food places. Read: I continued The Fifth Season and I am really enjoying it. 2 Quote "Destiny is important, see, but people go wrong when they think it controls them. CJ the (soon-to-be) Mighty
Recap for Jan. 3 Lift: I got back to lifting with workout B of my program. It was overhead press, deadlift, lat pulldowns, and one armed rows. The deadlifts felt really good (way better than Monday's squats). Monitor: Everything accounted for. Cook: No fast food today. Read: Not yet, but I am going to read a couple of pages when I finish this post, so I am going to count it. 2 Quote "Destiny is important, see, but people go wrong when they think it controls them. CJ the (soon-to-be) Mighty
Recap for Jan. 4 Lift: Today was a rest day, but I got some exercise in hauling boxes up and down the stairs as we began the process of de-Christmasing the house. Monitor: Everything monitored for today. Cook: My Mom stopped by today to spend time with the baby and offered to pick up Portillos for my wife and I, I passed and had no fast food for the day. This was a tough one. Read: I got some more reading in today. Some of the chapters in the book are written in second person, which is a little jarring and took me awhile to get used to. 2 Quote "Destiny is important, see, but people go wrong when they think it controls them. CJ the (soon-to-be) Mighty
Recap for Jan. 5 Lift: I had to postpone today's scheduled lifting due to family coming in, replacing the brakes on my wife's car, and an emergency call to the plumber. Back to it tomorrow. Monitor: Despite having family over for dinner, I still tracked. Cook: No fast food. Read: Bedtime reading tonight. 2 Quote "Destiny is important, see, but people go wrong when they think it controls them. CJ the (soon-to-be) Mighty
Recap for Jan. 7 Lift: Back to lifting today with bench, rows, and squats. Much of the soreness from earlier in the week has gone - let's hope it stays gone. Monitor: I got back on track monitoring after taking Saturday off. Cook: Still no fast food. The real test will begin tomorrow when it's back to work and the temptation of driving past all of the restaurants. Read: Still going with The Fifth Season - it's a really interesting story and I am having a good time reading it. 2 Quote "Destiny is important, see, but people go wrong when they think it controls them. CJ the (soon-to-be) Mighty
Recap for Jan. 9 Lift: I got my lifting in today - with overhead press and deadlifts being the focus. Monitor: I monitored and recorded everything. Cook: Failure here. I was starving after work and picked up an unhealthy snack on the way home. I need to take a bigger lunch and more to snack one during the day, so that I am not starving when I get out. Read: Back to that today as well. 1 Quote "Destiny is important, see, but people go wrong when they think it controls them. CJ the (soon-to-be) Mighty
Recap for Jan. 10 Lift: Today was a much needed rest day. Not from soreness, but from the fact that my daughter didn't feel like sleeping last night. Monitor: Taken care of. Cook: Back on track with this one. I made a little bit bigger lunch and I drank a big glass of water before heading home, so I didn't feel like I was starving. Read: The plan is to read after typing up this recap. I will probably make it only 2-3 pages, but it still counts. 1 Quote "Destiny is important, see, but people go wrong when they think it controls them. Wobbegong
I clearly got distracted from this challenge. Looks like you've been doing really well, though! You had a little hiccup with work food, but you totally identified the issue and addressed it the next day. Way to Rebel, man! My favorite board game right now is Concept, which is kind of like the board game version of charades I guess? Except with categories instead of miming. My favorite game in general is Bang!, but it's a card game, so idk if that counts. Bang! is terribly confusing the first time you play it, but you get the hang of it quickly and then every game after that is much fun. You do need at least four people to have a good time with it, though. (You can technically play with three but it's super boring. 5-8 is the ideal group size.) 1 Quote Link to comment

I have not heard about Concept before, I will have to look into it. Bang! is part of the collection that (sadly) doesn't get played enough. It really needs a lot of players to be fun and it's sometimes hard to get together enough players for it. When it does come out everybody does have a lot of fun and jokes about Bang!-ing people are non-stop. 1 Quote "Destiny is important, see, but people go wrong when they think it controls them. I once played in a group of fourteen people (!!) and it was really confusing and hard to keep track of who's turn it was. Also boring for the other twelve people who weren't having a turn or being attacked. Also figuring out how far you could shoot was a pain in the rump. Quote Link to comment
CJ the (soon-to-be) Mighty
This weekend has been terrible for my challenge.
