Oh totally agree. You forgot nauseatingly strict ethical code in there.

I think you're thinking of the Lawful Stupid paladins... clearly you need to meet one of mine. :P

Also, had a PHENOMENAL dance lesson on Sunday - really made some things click for both myself and my partner that should mean big, good changes for our dancing as we apply them the next couple months (and hopefully lead to even less fighting than we currently have during practice).

Great! Less fighting is a good thing! :)

“I've always believed that failure is non-existent. What is failure? You go to the end of the season, then you lose the Super Bowl. Is that failing? To most people, maybe. But when you're picking apart why you failed, and now you're learning from that, then is that really failing? I don't think so." - Kobe Bryant, 1978-2020. Rest in peace, great warrior.

NICE! What sort of things did you learn?

For me, mostly that I can pull my head even farther back to have a truly upright spine (as an added bonus, it sorts out some anterior pelvic tilt and makes me appear an inch or two taller to boot). Also that I need to focus less on what my partner's doing at any given time and just dance my stuff while clearly communicating my timing via connection.

For my partner, it was mostly that she needs to focus more on timing her dancing with what she feels me doing, rather than just listening directly to music and dancing on her own.

For both of us, it's that we need to revamp our approach to practice a bit:

  • Work wayyyyyyy less on choreography / don't think about it while we dance - we've had routines all for over a year at this point so everything should be on auto-pilot
  • Quit using full speed music to try and work technique / movement quality topics - use slow or no musc for that work
  • Spend a lot more time dancing without music, focused on the communication and connection in the partnership
  • Focus our full speed reps on how we'll perform / express ourselves in front of an audience, not on any other topics

 to be fair, I think it has more to do with how the DM views what being lawful good means. Lawful Stupid is an awesome phrase though, and I am totally stealing it!

I once had a pretty nasty disagreements with a DM who for some reason believed that since I was willing to work together with the party rogue, and I did not try to kill Evil Ones on sight, I was playing my Lawful Good paladin's alignment wrong and had to be penalized. My less than tactful efforts to show that if that was the case, then in the name of consistency the Lawful Evil rogue should be penalized for not trying to murder my character at every turn, did not help matters.

Yes, DMs who are firmly convinced that Lawful Good characters can't be pragmatic or compromise, annoy me.

Thread hijack over. For now. :P

Ooh that'd be annoying. Definitely one of those hard things about interpreting an ambiguous set of rules as a group of people.

Haha the hardest thing about ballroom is definitely having another person at the other end of your arm. But also the best things. The sacrifices we make...

Also, I briefly imagined what partnered gymnastics would look like. And that's truly terrifying.

Big part of why I enjoy my time in the gym as an escape from partnered work.

Well there is partner acro in circus. It involves falling. A lot.:D

And acro gymnastics, which I imagine has much of the same! Pretty much no one in the US does acro gymnastics though, it is its own little offshoot with a LOT more dance elements.

Haha I'd imagine. Sweaty limbs are bad enough when both of us are on dry ground - can't even imagine trying to hang on to another sweaty person when one of us is in the air.

^^What CM said. I can't even imagine working on tricks that high-flying and intricate with a partner. Totally would end in someone being a broken version of their former self.

Update on goals from yesterday.

  1. Hit target calories and protein, every day: Nope, succumbed to the allure of peppermint Joe Joe's (almost an entire row of them). Ironically, weighed in 2 lbs lighter this morning. Cutting is weird, y'all.
  2. Sleep 8+ hours a night, 6+ days a week: 6 yesterday. I intended to only finish the last 2 chapters of HP1, now I'm 100 pages deep into HP2.
  3. Get pre-gym morning routine down to about 15 minutes: ~20 minutes this morning, maybe even 15! Pre PB-ing my pancakes helped for sure, ate them in the car and it was magic.
  4. Do your scheduled workouts, adjusting as needed: Yup, did my day A of rings - highlight was feeling stable in an L-sit, even if my legs were a wee bit low.
  5. Start tracking how focused and productive you feel at work: Tracked! 3 / 5 on both, not terrible if not amazing.
  6. Mac experiments: First taste test was delicious, will get around to uploading a pic from tapatalk soon-ish.

I'm sure this isn't the least bit familiar to me at all. Definitely has nothing to do with why one of my goals is about following a set bed time. Nothing at all.

See above, assuming that I got it to work right. Ignore the burn marks, still learning how to cook proper pancakes on my new cast iron griddle (merry christmas from myself? part of a larger amazon binge around 01/01).

Welp, you boil up some ramen noodles and mix up some pancake batter of your choice, but less sweet than normal. Combine. Add in some scallions and seasoning if you like, or keep the sweeter batter and add fruit and cinnamon. Fry as per pancakes. BOOM :D
