Spezzy keeps health a priority.

This challenge I need y'all more than ever. This likely should be a druid challenge, but I'm overthinking where to put it and I'm a warrior, so here I am.

26165820_10100877614231343_8333798935517

My grandmother, who pretty much raised me alongside my mother, is currently in hospice and we don't really know how long or anything. She's 95 and had a good 90-93 healthy years, and is not in pain, and she's ready to go see my grandfather who passed over 50 years ago, so it's not tragic or unexpected, but I'm really not okay. I will be, but right now I'm just very heartbroken. And that's normal and okay.

This challenge will be a lot of travel, grieving, and my lifting is not a priority right now.

And that's okay, too.

But alongside this, I need to make sure that my health stays a priority. This week, I've maybe eaten 2 actual meals and I've made it to the gym once, and sleep pretty much hasn't happened at all. And she would be so extremely upset to find out I haven't been taking care of myself.

So this challenge is going to be simple:

1) Move every day, at least 20 minutes. This can be a walk, a yoga class, or a lifting session. Numbers don't matter. I might even drop in on some crossfit classes. I just need to move and keep up some fitness. Lifting will always be here for me to come back to.

2) Eat at least 1 full, solid meal every day, with a vegetable.

3) Meditate 3x a week. I know this has been a goal for a while, and I've failed at it, but I think it's super important right now as a part of the grieving process.

And that's it. No crazy numbers, no meets, no wilks goals. Just getting through this and healing.

you already talked through and hit on all the points that a supportive NFer like me would say. you're right. it's okay to be heart broken, it's okay that lifting is not a priority, and yes you're grandmother would be upset to find out you weren't taking care of yourself. go eat, sleep, and meditate <3

then handstand walks

RxBar as a snack

Your goals are amazing. I'm sure your grandmother would be proud to know that you have grown the wisdom to take care of yourself even in grief. That is a hard thing to do.

Thank you! I think that I very much follow in her footsteps when I take care of everyone else first, and then myself, which is a conversation her and I had many times (I'd always tell her to take care of herself too!). So here's to trying to make it work, hah!

My grandmother passed away this past summer, sounds like somewhat similar situations. Had a pretty good 80-85 years of life, but my grandfather passed away almost 20 years ago now and she's been ready to go since then. Developed dementia, spent the last few years in a nursing home, and then had a stroke this past summer and just... went. Grieving was difficult because there were a variety of emotions, including happiness that she passed away and was no longer suffering, and just sadness that she spent so long without my grandfather, who she loved more than anyone or anything. But according to her belief system, she is now with him. But yes, lots of complicated and not okay feelings. If you need to talk, I'm happy to listen and/or provide insight, though our situations aren't exactly the same.

Sooo the last few days have been rough. She passed on 1/1. I'm headed back to Boston Thursday-Monday for the services.

I bought programming for the next few months so I don't have to think about it at all. I'm actually really excited about the programming. So that's a start. I've also gone this week every day so far.

Monday was:

Work up to a heavy power clean + 5 push press: 135

Snatch pulls: 5x5 at 145

Pullups - 4x10

Back Squat - 3x6 at 205

Knee to Elbow: 4x10

Today was:

Bench Press 3x3 at 155

Incline Bench Press 2x10

Dips 3x8

Flyes 2x15

Waiter's walk 4x25 steps per hand

Close grip bench 2x10

I also decided I think I want to try to get up and make the bed and get dressed and look nice every day because that was something that was really important to her.

That sounds like a wonderful way to honor her memory.

Remember all the happy moments and know she's with your grandfather. It doesn't help the immediate grief, but it's a small step toward finding that light. I'm sorry for your loss. It's obvious you loved each other dearly.
