I also hate anyone else doing the dishes because they waste so much soap and water! (I fill the sink with hot soapy water. They put soap on the sponge, and then keep adding more soap every couple dishes.) 1 Quote Current Challenge: Zeroh, stick to the routine! Link to comment
Scaly Freak
I have decided that I need to rewrite my fifth challenge goal. Because I have read everything could find to read on unfuckyourhabitat.com, and I have learned wisdom. I will not limit myself to just the dragon cave! I will unfuck the whole dragon mountain! I will re-read some of the UfYH things, and I will start to plan this out, and I will explore the possibility of using the app to set and track task goals. And I will edit the first post in this thread to reflect the changed goal. Because this way it will be more likely to happen, and it will make my entire home nicer instead of just one corner of it, and it will make Procrastination cry. Muahaha. It also makes it more likely will do more dishes in the future, since apparently the husband has not realized how much it annoyed him that I never do, until the day I our of nowhere did a load of dishes. My bad? Anyway, since it seems to have made him happy, it'll hopefully not be too much of a hardship to do it more often. All other goals on track... including walking to Mordor. 5 Quote The Great Reading Thread of 2023 “I've always believed that failure is non-existent. What is failure? Scaly Freak
NerdFitness has been bad for my productivity at work as well. This needs to be fixed. Challenge goal updates: 1. Continue habits from previous challenges Did a walk with Happy Sidekick this morning. Still avoiding soda, and having the day off from all workout related stuff. Updated both the walk spreadsheets. 2. Stronglifts did not happen today, since day off. 3. No liquid calories at all. I don't count the chashew milk I poured over granola for breakfast, since it's not a drink. It's breakfast. 4. Sleeping Beauty I get up at 6:00 AM to get to work. I am starting small, aiming for six hours of sleep per night, so I want to be asleep, or close to it, by midnight. I have set my bedtime. for 11:00 PM in FitBit, with a reminder to start preparing for bed an hour before. Preparing for bed involves removing makeup, brushing teeth, picking out outfit for tomorrow, load the coffee maker, and either plan or pack lunch. Then off to bed, and read until it's time to sleep. (Reading only permitted with paper books, or eReaders with blue light filter.) 5. Unfuck Dragon Mountain I have decided to do a 20-minute challenge in the evenings on days when I'm not going to the gym. With loud music on, because playing loud music makes time go faster when you're cleaning. Today was laundry room challenge, and it does look better in there. This has lots of potential and I will keep this up until it has had plenty of time to have an impact. 4 Quote The Great Reading Thread of 2023 “I've always believed that failure is non-existent. And I'm more concerned that Apple forced them to rename the app before carrying it in their app store. Apple must have a low opinion of their customers. Please let me know what you think of the app, both of you. I'm looking for a task tracker app that lets me customize lists (with due dates) and set recurrences. Big Apple is watching us. So I bought the iOs version (debit $0.99 to my "impulse spending" list because I bought it as soon as I looked it up yesterday.) It's okay, for that price I guess I shouldn't expect much more. My biggest quibble is with the "checklists" - they can't be modified. So, for example, one item on their Daily checklist is "clean litterbox" - I am not a cat person, but I can't remove this item or even change it to something that I do actually need to do every day but that is not on their list. Not a huge deal, but to complete the list and clear it I have to check everything and it feels like a kind of cheating to check off the litterbox when I didn't actually do it. Silly? Probably. The distinction between to-do lists and checklists is confusing at first, but I like that I can set to-do items as daily, so maybe I'll just ignore their daily checklist and build my own. That won't work for tasks at a different frequency than daily, though. I will still have to use their version of the weekly, monthly, and seasonal checklists. In other words, you can customize a to-do list, with due dates, but only for: 1) one-time tasks and 2) daily tasks Once a task is on your "to-do" list, if you click on it the timer automatically starts. Which is kinda cool, but it assumes that you are doing a 20/10 - so even if it is a five minute task, the timer is going to go off in 20 minutes to remind you to take a 10 minute break. I can't find a way to modify that for even a 45/15. I do like it better than FlyLady Plus in the sense that once a checklist is complete, if I click "done," it automatically resets. On FLP, you have to go in every day and click "reset" on your morning, afternoon, and evening routines, otherwise once they are checked off they stay checked off forever. Overall, meh. I would actually rather have paid a little more for more versatility, but it is cool for what it is. 2 1 Quote “To see that your life is a story while you're in the middle of living it may be a help to living it well." -Ursula K. I'm filing this under Things I May Need To Know In The Future. Thanks! 1 Quote The Great Reading Thread of 2023 “I've always believed that failure is non-existent. What is failure? You go to the end of the season, then you lose the Super Bowl. Is that failing? To most people, maybe. But when you're picking apart why you failed, and now you're learning from that, then is that really failing? I don't think so." - Kobe Bryant, 1978-2020. Rest in peace, great warrior. It so needs to be done and I kind of... forgot? Last year. INSPIRE US ALL WITH YOUR SUCCESS YOU MAGNIFICENT DRAGON TAMER! Weekend goal checkin: 1. Continue all habits from previous challenges. Soda still not happening (incredible how easy that becomes when you just stop buying soda!). Walked Happy Sidekick every day. This is especially important since she officially has become Arthritic Sidekick, and low impact exercise is critical to managing the disease and slowing its progression. Gym is still happening, thanks in no small part to @juliebarkley who has the same workout days as I do, and who suggested we build an accountability system and check in with each other. It really helps. 2. Stick with Stronglifts Absolutely. This is awesome. I especially like that the app plots my progress in a graph as proof that I'm getting stronger. When I first started with Stronglifts I had bad (worse?) form for several of the lifts and every set was a struggle.Today, I did five sets of OHP with a weight that I barely managed to squat a month ago. Bragging rights! 3. Remove all liquid calories This goal had another fail this weekend. Since I decided on it with the intention of reintroducing my favorite ones for special occasions, I'm not that upset or worried, since this too was a date night occasion. A nice dinner of braised short ribs becomes a fantastic dinner if you add a glass of a good Cabernet Sauvignon, so we did. Because date night. Aside from that, no coffee drinks, no other alcohol, and no fruit juices. 4. Sleeping Beauty Insomnia is annoying. This goal is a struggle, but I am cautiously optimistic that it will get better now that my FitBit can receive notifications from my phone again. I have failed to meet my bed time every single night, however, I am at least getting to bed before midnight and more importantly, staying there. This is progress, so this counts as a win. 5. Unfuck Dragon Mountain I spent most of the weekend cooking, so naturally the kitchen became a bit of a mess. Except not. Following the UfyH philosophy I cleaned things away as I cooked, instead of just setting the dirty items in the sink for later (because cooking is so much more fun than cleaning!) I cleaned away everything else within reach as well, and cleaned off all the counters... my kitchen looks nicer now than before I started the cleaning. I also installed the app and will play around with custom task lists during the upcoming week. All in all, a good weekend. Question for the more seasoned warriors here: I am noticing that my core can't keep up with the Stronglift weight increase for squats. I triple-checked form, and I make a point of bracing before each squat, but the abs and lower back muscles are lagging behind everything in the legs. I'm thinking this could probably be fixed by adding core exercises to my workouts. I'm open to suggestions... 6 Quote The Great Reading Thread of 2023 “I've always believed that failure is non-existent. What is failure? You go to the end of the season, then you lose the Super Bowl. I'm a big fan of tacking core onto most workouts, and yeah, it's def something SL doesn't really address. If you do it consistently, you'll feel results without having to spend a ton of time. I usually do 3-5 mins worth at the end of every session and vary up the work throughout the week to hit from all angles. You really can't go wrong with stuff like planks, back extensions, flutter kicks, russian twists etc. I just pick one or two per session and that's it, doesn't have to be a big to-do (Sometimes I'll also combine core stuff with my accessories to save time... but that's probably a story for another day ) 4 Quote ~Peace Be The Journey~ one - two - three - four - five - six - seven- eight - nine - ten - eleven - twelve - thirteen - fourteen - fifteen - sixteen - seventeen - eighteen - nineteen - twenty - twenty one - twenty two - twenty three - twenty four - twenty five - twenty six - twenty seven - twenty eight - twenty nine - thirty - thirty one - thirty two - thirty three - thirty four - thirty five - thirty six Link to comment
