Juni0r83 has some resolutions for 2018

It's a new year, and I'm going to be the same me, but, you know...

So I have some goals I'm looking at for 2018, and seeing as its the new year, I suppose, technically, they're new years resolutions.

funny-new-year-resolutions-meme-pictures

There are a whole bunch of things that I want to achieve this year, but I'm going to start small, set intelligent goals, and build on those successes.

With that in mind, my goals for the next five weeks:

1. Start each non-work day with 5 burpees and 60 seconds of planks.

This is just about building more active habits and trying to get better at doing the things that I currently avoid.

2. No more than 1 takeaway meal per week

Whilst I do think there is a lot I can do to clean up my diet, I figure this one small step will be a big leap towards my goal of losing weight

3. Go back to training 4 days a week, starting with just my primary movements each day, and adding a movement to each workout each week until I get back to full workouts.

With the birth of my Son, training has kind of taken a back seat, and I do miss it. So, I'll be joining the new years resolutioners in crowding out the other regulars at my gym.

Personal goals:

1. Develop a budget to help make better financial decisions

It's not like I'm falling behind on my bills, or slipping into a negative debt cycle or anything, but it's pretty clear that I could be doing things a lot better if I was just a little bit smarter with my                     money. So the plan is to take the first steps to achieving that.

2. Write 500 words a day 5 days per week.

This is part of a plan to write 200k this year, including the two camp nano's and nanowrimo as well. I'll probably end up writing more in later months, but for now, 500 words per day five days                   a week will have to do.

And to keep myself interested, I'm planning on posting here three days per week to keep all of my stats updated, and each time I will post a new years meme that I chuckled at.

That is all. I'll let you all know how I go.

Yeah, it's been cold here too, I've actually been able to get away with wearing pants...

Congrats on the Junior... Junior? Junior?  And good luck with the army of the resolutioners at the gym.

Yeah, I didn't name him after me. Made a promise years ago he wouldn't be Ian the third. Instead, he's James Jnr... Apparently I didn't think this through.

So week 1 was a bust. I only did planks 1 day, the gym 2 days, and precisely no writing.

Additionally I had like 4 takeaway meals last week. But my niece and nephew are in town, and I take them out to lunch regularly.

Anyway, nothing else to report, so I'll just get cracking on week 2 and try and do better.

Well, while I don't typically agree with your logic, I'll take it as encouragement to kill the next 4 weeks of my challenge instead.

Lets see how I've been going this week.

Monday: hit the gym, ate home cooked food all day. Hooray. But no planks or burpees. On the personal side, I write 500 words, so I don't even feel like complete trash.

Tuesday: hit the gym again, ate home cooked food again, but still no planks or burpees. I wrote another 500 words today. So another day of not terrible efforts. Side note about today - I managed 15 reps at 102kg on bench for my amrap set. The calculator in my training spreadsheet tells me this a calculated 1RM of 167. If that's true, its a full 10kg pr for me.

Wednesday: Thank god its not a gym day, because my lats, traps, delts and pecs are all dead, and suspect my triceps are well on their way to suicide. How did I ever get by training as often as I did with as much volume as I did? I did eat homecooked food, and I did write 500 words again.

Thats about all there is for the week so far. But it's time for another meme. Well, this one isn't so much a meme, as a joke about buying christmas presents, and additionally, I really wish this was actually a thing...

Hopefully you do better with training with little ones than I have. Haven't set a squat PR since my wife was pregnant with #1.

I've actually not managed to be fully consistent with my workouts, but because I now do AMRAP's every session, I have been setting some rep PR's, so, I can't really complain. But consistency is going to be a problem. I used to have a gym partner, now my wife stays home with the baby. It's challenging to say the least.

Another update is clearly in order.

I managed to go to the gym 4 days per week for two whole weeks. Then I fell off the wagon again.

My plan now is to get my wife to reactivate her membership and start hitting the gym with me again. My mother has said she's willing to supervise James while we work out, so unless I plan on taking like 2+ hours to train, we might actually be able to build a routine again.

My eating has been predominantly home cooked, but we haven't been paying close attention to calories, so I don't think I'm making huge progress in the weight loss side of things just yet.

The burpees and planks however have been a complete bust. I should probably re-evaluate these moving forward, see if I can come up with something I'm more likely to actually do.

I've written my budget out, and figure out how to save about half the money I need for a holiday next year, but some more work is needed to get the rest of the way there.

And finally, I've been writing, not quite as consistently as I should, but I should hit about 8k for the month, so I can't complain too loudly.

This week I'm going to test my rep maxes for squat, bench, deadlift and OHP in order to set up a new training cycle. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Just quickly closing this challenge out before thinking about what I want my next challenge to be.

Still working on improving my consistency with working out. But my wife is once again back at the gym, so hopefully the company will keep me motivated.

My diet is slowly improving, I've managed to stay away from takeaway significantly more than in the past. But it'd be better if my menu selection was a little more health conscious.

The burpees and planks haven't been happening. And I don't think they're going to. So, I'll have to try something else to improve my conditioning.

I've also managed to write a budget, and although I haven't written 500 words per day 5 days per week, I have begun writing much more consistently. So on the personal goals, all is good.

A slightly uninspiring wrap up, but it was kind of an uninspiring effort this challenge. Sorry.

this is awesome! you had a CHILD! that throw lives up in the air to fall on the floor and picked up as you can manage it. you got back to the gym, came up with solutions for your wife to as well, cut back on takeaway, written a budget, AND kept writing consistently. you're making progress and you don't even know it :D
