I do sometimes think about "if I had all the gear I have now when I started, where would my numbers be now"? But then, if I had waited til I had everything just right, essentially I'd just be starting now. My numbers may not be spectacular, or as much as I'd like, but the path getting here was a winding one and an imperfect start was better than nothing. What vid? Sounds like some fake weight nonsense that's going around instagram. 1 Quote "You're going to be amazing." farflight
Just catching up on the thread. Great job on posting the vids. I'm not much of a form expert (and by not much I mean not at all). Saw in you original post that "Oil change" was listed as a Misc. goal, was that learn to do it yourself or just get it done? I tend to save about half cost doing my own "simple" automotive care. Oil changes are the easiest (especially with ramps). YouTubeUniv is a great school. I dreaded form vids when I first did them, but thankfully its not like I put them on the worldwide web..... 1 1 Quote Fitbit username: farflight (would love to have more people on there) Getting life in order is a challenge worth doing. This is definitely the only place on the internet I would post videos of myself (particularly sans makeup and in gym stuff lol.) Nobody is judgy, they genuinely want to help me get better, and at worst there might be some comments about my taste in deadlifts socks. (And yet, it still takes that 20 seconds of courage to hit post.) The oil change goal is meant to be a reminder to go have it done. I could do it myself, and I'm blessed enough to have family nearby that would be more than willing to help out. But by the same token, there is the extra time factor. I can drop off my car and they'll do the oil, plus check/top off all the other fluids, etc and reset the computer and it wont take half a Saturday. (Also, nanny car says I'm due for tire rotation too.) 5 hours ago, Grumble said: Um, I hate to spoil the surprise, but... 2 Quote We will never see the best version of ourselves inside our comfort zone Link to comment
JustCallMeAmber
Week 2 (of 5) summary: Video at least 1 of the heavier sets of each lift. Deadlifts done. Not as bad as I feared form-wise. Try out some new accessories. Maybe some bro stuff. Sorta? I at least added some core work. Shoulder mish kinda nixed any real "extras". Be more focused at work. Do not obsessively check news/NF/endless non-work-related articles of interest. About 50/50 again, but part of that was being bored waiting on other people. Got a lot of nit-picky stuff off my desk, so at least when I am focused, I am getting stuff done. Better budget awareness. Need to cut down on frivolous spending. Stuck to the stuff on my list at the grocery, but bought movies while out and about. (They were on sale at least lol. ) No online shopping, and after seeing a clothing store link on Red's thread I was soooooo tempted. I resisted though. Read things that challenge me. Read at least one of the following: classic literature, self-help, or otherwise educational. Check! Finished 1st book. Stop saying "I'm old" Check! I may have felt it, but I didn't say it Misc: Oil change Not yet. Rolling goals Devo 7/7. Check! Walking. 7/7. Bonus 7! (Score / reward TBD) Check! New high score: 10 weeks straight! #Yoga365 730. 7/7. Bonus 4. (Score / reward TBD) Don't forget front split practice! Check! Feeling pretty good so far. I traded jump rope for burpees in my conditioning circuit, but I did the rest of the things. Shoulder's mostly better as long as I don't do too much (like burpees). I did skip OHP Friday for that reason, but fireman carries on Saturday felt ok. I'm thinking it was something I did during floor press last Tuesday, so I'm not sure yet what I am doing in the morning. My original plan was to get form vids, but if that irritates my shoulder.. Food was a bit of a rollercoaster. Only ate out once, which was good. But I wound up skipping dinner twice, and even with high cal snacks I landed at 1157 and 1200 Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Which I assume is why my scale ticked down to 144.8 yesterday. (On the one hand, lowering BF% is one of the main goals for this year. But, methinks that's not a good way to do it. ) Onward to Week 3! We'll see if I still say the same thing if I get ab DOMS Ah, nothing too serious. Just a flare up of muscle achiness on the front and top of my right shoulder. An irritation more than anything else, but trying to keep off it too much. I do floor press with the straight bar. Just rotten timing since I wanted to add upper stuff and a lot of that has not happened yet. It has been a while since I have had the "I don't really want to eat". Usually I'm starving to death by the time I get home lol. I think I probably just got busy doing other things and by the time I realized it, it was 8pm and I never got around to eating dinner. (That was a recurring theme when I started my first job many moons ago; lots of days where no lunch break ever happened.) As long as it doesn't become a regular theme, I'm good. 5 hours ago, Taddea Zhaan said: Feeling you on all of this. I'm still on my spending freeze as well and that shit is hard. Everything is so tempting, clothes, food, fitness gear, all of it. But do I NEED those at the moment? Nope. RIGHT?! The clothing I think is probably the worst for me. (I have been known to have a full Smeagol / Gollum argument with myself: Hey, it's only 10 bucks! You have almost the identical top at home. But, they're old-er and this is new! You have 50+ tops; you could avoid laundry for months and not re-wear things. But..Shiny!! I NEEEDS IT, PRECIOUSS!) Ahem. I probably shouldn't let the bats out of the belfry so early in the day. But, yes, the struggle is there. If it's genuinely needed, then fine. But so much of the extras that happened over the last few months just weren't really worth it. That's the kind of spending I'm looking to forestall, and the kind that I've been having a harder time with so far this week.. 1 Quote We will never see the best version of ourselves inside our comfort zone Link to comment
