Mile 32!  we Hide from the Black Rider!

:woot

this is just the 1st one though.... the next encounter is more consequential- Frodo nearly puts the ring on and his is 'Rescued' by the Elves...

THAT is at mile 41.

its the Next big thing to look for....

[edit: with any luck I should arrive to that point by the end of the day.  today SHOULD  be a good day for mileage.]

I'll make the first black rider today (only about 0.13 miles short LOL), but I don't think I'll make the 9 miles today to make the second one LOL.

MILE 51

Stock-brook!

maxresdefault.jpg

this part of the tale- reminds me of myself... Wandering not that far from home and somewhat lost.

After the elves, the Next day, the Hobbits begin to forget themselves and break into song... (before At mile 54, a shrieking cry reminds them why they have to be more careful)

we'll Get there today For sure!

and... hopefully we shall get to Farmer Maggot's fields;  this one of the First BIG disappointment of the movie;  Farmer Maggot is a good guy (in the book) who helps them out of tight spot.   Unlike the movie

the Movie Unfortunately seem to enjoy making major characters seems more stupid or evil than they were...

Yesterday I left Yaktrax in the park. It brought me back to when I first started running my freshman year of college... or to the attempted crossing of the Misty Mountains via the Pass of Caradhras. Any time your run involves 3 pairs of pants and ski goggles, you know it's going to be good! Onward!

Mile 71!

decisive times have come for our little group of hobbits.  within a few hours they would come to Frodo's new home at Crickhollow, and shock the Hobbit by revealing that they know - just about everything!

After a bath, singing, and a good nap.  they leave into the wilderness the Next morning- early.

I'm there!  lets head into the Old forest....  I'll try to given an update at Mile 98; at the house of most peculiar man Bombadillo

BTW...

its getting 2 weeks since the 2018 walk has begun.   How are you guys are doing anyways?  Has this gone about as well as you expected- worse? better?

curious.

As for Me I am Having A TON of fun tracking my mileage and shadowing the mighty mordor walk.  I really think I'm going to make it !  if not there and back- I think I can make the cracks of doom by the fall.  that's the goal.  (Sept 15, specifically).  I'm pretty sure I'm on pace.

Thanks!! My goal was to finish by the end of 2017 and I was on schedule to make it. Then I messed up my Achilles tendon in November and that slowed things down. Still finishing a little more than a week into 2018 isn't too bad.

Updated the spreadsheet... And while there, inspired by  @TGP I did a bit of estimates: if I keep my current Dublin pace (in Italy I have a car, so I am slower, that affected the first week in January) I can reach Mordor by end of December 2018.

Aiming for:

Rivendell - 5/4/2018

Lothlorien - 9/6/2018

Rauros - 26/9/2018

Mordor - 31/12/2018

I put the dates on my calendar, as a reminder :D

big Number days; as I've had some real nice walks this weekend.

so I'm PROBABLY at Bree and lest I walk right by it, without stopping...  I look for and find the Prancing pony.

Hey wasn't Gandalf suppose to meet me here?

good thing there is a ranger around.  It appears we shall have to trust him.... he really knows he way around :)

"you know Walking to mordor is VERY LONG, quiet and Tired Work...."

"shut it, pippin!".... Merry says, Quite annoyed, at hearing pippin grumble (yet again!) on the long walk out of chetwood.

Just letting you guys knows I'm alive and still walking.  not likely to see anything cool for awhile though.  End of the week Midgewater marches (prolly)- but I'll have to be fast paced indeed to get to Weather top by the end of the NEXT week.

OMG! Hi!!

I've only JUST stumbled upon this!! So you just record your miles on the spreadsheet? You don't need a FitBit, right? I've been using MapMyWalk app on my iPhone. What do I need to do to join in?! This sounds like fun! Are there rewards...? (Like a high five or a "way to go" or a gift card? lol)  *nudge*  :D

Update: I went ahead and began filling it out but do I need to save or what exactly? (Super sorry, just not famliar with spreadsheets.) I started my journey from the day before yesterday, hope that's ok.

Sure. hi ! join along.

in fact, you can begin back at Jan1 if you can figure out how much mileage you've made.

at any rate; this kind of journey is one of patience and long marches in the wilderness ; along with perhaps a few artistic posts (if you feel like it)

I'm definitely the loud one of the bunch; but I LOVE lotr and I'm getting a huge kick of vicariously sharing their walk. mm. another milepost is about ready to bust.

: excuse me...

177.3 and the marsh is all around us!  we seemed to enter in during our noon-day run

but Strider tells me it will get much more intense in the next couple miles.

which is fine except for these awful relatives of the cricket.  Sam dubbed them "neekerBreakers"- How  are we even spose to sleep with all that racket?

walking to Mordor IS uncomfortable ( says pippin for the umpteenth zillion times; everyone is too sick of it and their own moody thoughts to even yell at him)

IMHO.  1779 miles is a Long ways;  don't take any of your well deserved mileage away from you.

Thanks!! :)

This.

I let my Fitbit count my steps through the day. The following day, I scroll backwards and it has turned the step count into a number of miles. That's what I log. Seems both the easiest and most consistent method.

The Great Reading Thread of 2024

“I've always believed that failure is non-existent. What is failure? You go to the end of the season, then you lose the Super Bowl. Is that failing? To most people, maybe. But when you're picking apart why you failed, and now you're learning from that, then is that really failing? I don't think so." - Kobe Bryant, 1978-2020. Rest in peace, great warrior.
