No real hard and fast on this, usually its percentages of your working weight for the day. I tend to stop at about 60-75% of my working weight as my last warmup set. And with stronglifts, If memory serves, you should do a 5, 5, 3 for warmup sets. So you can base your weights off those and go with what feels good. Remember, the warmup is getting everything loosened up, warm the body, it should not be a concerted effort at this point.

Story of my life. Where do you find yourself failing?

I'm hungrier than before, which should be natural since I'm lifting, right? And I think that I'm more willing to fall in this trap that "since I'm working out, I can eat this cake/junkfood/unhealthychoice". My focus should be mealprep from now on.

Hey Shogun! Caponerd here, back after a long hiatus. Will be keeping an eye on your thread, looks like you have a ton of stuff planned for yourself, as usual!

HOLA! I MISSED YOU HERE! (because I see you all the time laughing at my Spanish memes on Facebook) I can't wait to see what you'll be up to. Are you joining the next challenge?

RE: warmups

I usually do two sets of 5 with just the bar, focusing on technique (with deadlifts, starting at 135 instead of 45). Then sets of 5 at 95, 135, 185, 225 (lbs, basically taking advantage of the big plates and the main in-between jump), etc. as a way to get used to lifting heavy weights before I do my working sets (I'll drop the number of reps down right before the working weight to 3 or 1 reps). I also have started doing a bit of joint warmup / muscle activation before I do any lifting, though this was a very recent change.

Interesting! good to know! I should reduce the number of reps right before my working weight, certainly. Last time I was "tired" from the warmup and had to wait before starting lifting the working weight.

Ok, so bad week. I met with my nutritionist, took pictures, measurements, the whole thing... and found out that my bodyfat % has gone up, no wonder since I've been eating like a pig. It discouraged me but now I more aware than ever that I should focus on meal prep and healthy choices and stop thinking that since I'm working out more than ever I can eat like I want. I also want to incorporate something more on off days (HIIT twice a week? yoga? dunno). Since I'm moving soon, it's gotta be something I can continue doing even if I move. I was going to focus on my Wing Chun practice but I just found out that my school closed... so, I might stick with you guys for a long time, at least until I find a new school (which there are none in this country) or a new martial art.

You have the funniest Spanish memes! Which I of course love to steal 3:) Perhaps some of these here warriors would disagree with me, but I reckon something lower impact like yoga would benefit you more than HIIT or something else that would possibly affect your ability to lift heavy (At least that is what Mehdi from Stronglifts would say on his emails)

On a side note I will definitely be participating in the next challenge! I am not actively training martial arts but the monks have given me permission to stay aboard (Even the mighty Kishi himself!)

I'm strongly considering Yoga and another Martial Art. Looking for recommendations in my city. I'm looking for something I can do here and in Colombia once I move. That's why I'm also considering HIIT because I won't have to be tied to a school/place, etc. Mehdi says he wouldn't do HIIT more than twice a week, and I'd probably do no more than that. But yeah, I'm kinda worried it'd affect my lifting powers.

I'm looking forward to see you around next challenge! I don't know if I'll be with the monks or with the warriors or even the druids!

Timing helps! I usually get 1 or 2 HIIT sessions in a week, but I don't do that biz before a lift. And good luck looking for a new style! VT is obviously the best ever... but no reason you can't have fun with the lessers in the meantime :P
