Tateman and the battle to avoid surgery

It's Friday!!!! :)

Today started with a early wake up to go to my Eye Exam today. I also went to get blood work done to discover the mystery of my low blood sugar while on meds. It has been just a little while since my last eye exam. 2013. hahaha. Today went fine. Looks like my left eye changed. The right eye seems the same. My eyes have always had high pressure. Today was no different. the Doc was concerned though, so she sent me for addition testing. Humphrey Visual field test, and then a laser eye mapping. I do get the diabetic eye screening picture taken every two years as well. I have that to take in October. The doctor looked at the other pictures, and everything looked fine. She wanted to get the tests done anyway. High pressure is one indicator for glaucoma.

After all that, I went and got the bloodwork done. There was quite a few people at the lab by then.

When I got home, I saw there was a message on the kp.org site. It was from the eye doctor.

Hi Mr. Tate,

Great news! The results of both the visual field test and nerve scans were completely normal. Please return next year for your routine eye exam.

Thank you,

So looks like my eyes are good to go. Just need to go ahead and get some new glasses.

Now begins the wait on the bloodwork :)

Thursday Recap:

Didn't walk. I did bowl. Food was also good.

Goal#1:  Down with the Carbs/Sugar demon, and Keto on

MFP Food Diary.  1401 Calories, 9 net carbs. Everything was going fine. A little boring for most, but fine for me. I did enjoy the ham and cheese omelet for breakfast :)

Goal#2:  Exercise beginner mode

None done

Goal#3:  The night Owl must become the early bird

ZrZUbir.jpg

12:37 am to 7:23 am. Early morning to get to my appointments. Still felt like I did not sleep well. It really feels bad at the end. A new bed can't get here fast enough. That is, as soon as we find one to get ;) I really am enjoying the time I have for reading.

Goal#4:  Blog all the things

"My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 18" blog post made. Also NF posts done.

I think I will make my blog post, then head out for a walk. Even just a little one will be good. :)

Good news on the vision. I just got my new Fitbit that tells me how much deep sleep I'm getting. It's  low. I feel rested though. Interested to see if your new bed helps.

Yeah, the wife and I have been talking about a new bed. It sucks waking up sore in our current bed. Like I can literally only sleep on it for so long until I just have to get up.

Busy busy. Should have mad this post earlier, but I ran out of time.

Had match club tonight. Up in Pinole, Ca. Took a bit over an hour to get there. Started off a bit rough, but then I got it back. Ended up bowling well enough to get my team the win, and got the split for our match club. 187-181-277 645 series.

Of course, the Pinole match club was nice enough to provide some food for bowlers

Qq3mMLQ.jpg

Two Pizzas, fried zucchini (I think), fries, wings, and mozzarella sticks. All right behind the lanes I am bowling on haha.

Oddly enough, It didn't tempt me at all. Sure, a month ago, I would have been all over it. Not now though.

Friday recap:

I walked! :) This last week has had me feeling great. I'm going to keep trying to ride the wave of positivity ;)

DvIHLLM.gif

Goal#1:  Down with the Carbs/Sugar demon, and Keto on

MFP Food Diary.  1458 Calories, 12 net carbs. It was a little odd yesterday, but it worked out. Had a burger from Burger King (No bun, no ketchup), and salad from Mcdonalds.

Goal#2:  Exercise beginner mode

kv97EEx.jpg

Walk done! I was going to hit a shorter walk, but felt like I wanted to do more. 2.62 miles 47 minutes. It's all over the place on the map, because I was getting pokestops haha.

Goal#3:  The night Owl must become the early bird

4m3xSYC.jpg

12:30 am to 8:44 am. I tried getting all the sleep. Still, I woke up some.

Goal#4:  Blog all the things

"Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 19" blogged, and I posted here at Nerdfitness a bit

Off to blog, and hopefully read some before bed!

Wake up today, and see these sitting on the  kitchen island

My wife said sorry, cause she knows I really like the red hots candy. She had to try them though. haha. My curiosity side would like to try them to see how they are. Fortunately, I don't have the "OMG MUST HAVE" urge.

Fitbit sent me my 2017 stats in a email. Now I knwo what to beat for 2018 :)

Saturday recap:

No walk, had a late night do to bowling an hour away. Still made it home for a late post here, and blog, then reading and bed.

Goal#1:  Down with the Carbs/Sugar demon, and Keto on

MFP Food Diary.  1288 Calories, 12 net carbs. Had a weird time with eating, just because of the late bowling. Had to eat earlier, then ate a little more when I got home. It worked out though.

Goal#2:  Exercise beginner mode

No walking done

Goal#3:  The night Owl must become the early bird

uKvxsKE.jpg

12:30 am to 8:12 am. I did seem to have a hard time getting to sleep. Probably from the later bowling and driving home an hour, plus late eating, and I had quite a bit on my mind. Planning to bowl in New York in March :)

Goal#4:  Blog all the things

Blogged "My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 20" and posted here. Even if it was later in the evening. :)

Week 3 is done!

This week has felt really great for me. I feel like I have gotten things done that I needed to. Like Eye exam, and bloodwork. (still waiting for results :( ) I also was able to easily avoid the temptations of the foods around me. No pizza, fries, mozzarella sticks, sauced up wings, fried zucchini, or even Cinnamon candy Oreo's.

My weight has been coming off again. I thought only like a pound or two, but it looks like I have lost 5 this week. 19 total since January 1st.

gmq3rCa.jpg

January 1st - 367.6

January 22nd - 348.6

Got to keep that trail moving south! :)

Let's move on to the goals.

1/20 -  1288 Calories, 12 net carbs - 2 points

No real cravings this week. Plenty of things to tempt me, but I avoided it all.

1/20 - None

1/21 - 2.3 Miles, 41 minutes - 1 point

Right about on par with week 1. I did beat week 2 at least. Since I did well here getting 3/3 days, this next week I am moving up to 5 days.

3/3 points.

Goal#3:  The night Owl must become the early bird - 1 point for getting into bed by 12:30pm.

bq8p4gc.jpg

7/7 points

Goal#4:  Blog all the things - 1 point for each day I blog, 1 point for posting here

Again, I had some late posts. I did post here, and on my blog Tateland.com each day. I even started getting some followers there, and have interacted with a few other bloggers ;)

14/14 points

100% week! :)

My blood sugar numbers have been consistently great I think. 70-80s with no Medication. So Hopefully, my doctor can see that in the blood work that comes back.

Time to push harder for week 4!

Today has been good. I didn't cook any chicken, so I have to tomorrow. I did get out for a walk after my raid.

Got to sleep on the couch last night. haha. Wife was feeling sick, so she warned me when I came to bed. I opted to head to the living room ;) No walking today. I had to charge my fitbit, then didn't put it on all day until bowling time. Bowled tonight, and felt good. 228-224-203 for a 655 Series.

A little disheartened today from seeing my weight no go down, but it is a process that takes some time. I guess my brain just wishes it was happening faster. :)

Congrats on resisting all the nasty food demons.  How far are you from New York now? Is the bowling trip a big trip or little one?  You are making good food choices, your weight will go down.

Thanks. So far, so good with resisting stuff.

I am on the other side of the country. So I am in San Jose, California. I bowl March 29-30 in Syracuse, New York. So big trip :) We are going a few days before hand to be tourists in the New York area. See the Statue of Liberty, 9-11 memorial area, all that stuff. I will however break the keto eating while I am there. I have to try some authentic NY pizza, and a few otehr great food spots I've heard about. Still, the plan is to not go super crazy. I know mass loading carbs will make me not feel well at all.

Happy Saturday evening.

Man, I was running around all day today. Never did get out for a walk, so I won't make my 5 day of walking goal this week. Today's food temptation

cNdgf6yl.jpg

The wife was really wanting some. I waited in the car. I figured she knew I wasn't eating them, and would get a few. Apparently, I was wrong. Box of all glaze, and an assortment in the other. I didn't even look. :) A month or so ago, I would have easily been 3 or 4 doughnuts in by now.

Also had a bit of a test, as we ate out at outback steakhouse. I checked the nutrition guide beforehand to help me out. Had steak, steamed broccoli, and a house salad with ranch. Removed the onions and croutons from the salad. ;)

Friday summary

Friday I walked :) Overall, decent day.

Goal#1:  Down with the Carbs/Sugar demon, and Keto on

MFP Food Diary.  1420 Calories, 14 net carbs. Had the old #11 stickball special from Jersey Mike's. In a tub of course.

Goal#2:  Exercise beginner mode

CTFb0xwl.jpg

2.4 miles almost 45 minutes. It was a great walk. I grabbed all the pokestops in the park :)

Goal#3:  The night Owl must become the early bird

DrEEwOwl.jpg

Rolled around a bit at first. I think allergies were getting to me. Eventually slept till it was too uncomfortable in the morning. Good news, we ordered a new mattress :) We are going to try the Casper Wave mattress. I'm hoping it will be very comfortable.

Goal#4:  Blog all the things

Posted here, and blogged "My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 26"

Got a few more errands on Sunday, plus raiding in WoW. At some point, I need to get my computer area cleaning up. soon!

Wow! Great job resisting the donuts! Kristie kremes are serious temptations, and they’re so light, it’s almost impossible to eat just one. Well meaning family members and friends (because they buy temptation food usually because we know they would generally make us happy) are tough to battle, but it sounds like you’re doing well. And good choices at outback too.

Have fun in NYC! I’ve only been there twice and I’m itching to get back and experience it for more than a weekend at a time. I missed when you’re going.

Great job resisting those doughnuts. That trip to YYC city sounds fun. Sounds like a good idea to let yourself enjoy some local treats too. I thought with you wife and the doughnuts, it seems like maybe she is missing in sharing some of the treats with you. Is there some food  treat you can have with her? (steaks! seafood0

We did have some steaks :) So far I haven't experimented with keto style treats. Eventually, I might get her to try some when I do ;)

Week 4 is in the books!

This week was a off some. I wanted to push 5 days of walking, and did not get to it. I ate out a bit more then I wanted too, even though I still made my food numbers. I had plenty of temptations that I did avoid! :) This week I felt a lot more overloaded with everything. I always just seemed to feel too busy for everything, and still have everything to get done. I was also down a bit about my weight. I feel like it should be flying off me. Maybe it is because I am lookign at daily numbers vs weekly. When I check this week, I went down 3.7lbs. so that ain't bad :)

Down 22.6 lbs since the start of the challenge. A big loss in the beginning, then it slowed. Overall though, it is getting lower. So I can't be mad about that.

A couple of really low net carb days in there. I did avoid the bad easy foods, and did tackle eating in a restaurant

I did have the most steps this week, from all prior weeks. I did also mess up on Thursday. I had to charge the fitbit, and didn't wear it all day until I went bowling at night.

Goal#3:  The night Owl must become the early bird - 1 point for getting into bed by 12:30pm.

I slipped up last night. Was watching the Royal Rumble. Stayed up till 1 am. Totally could have went to bed, I just didn't. The last few days I was starting to slip a bit. Twice this week, I did not read. So back on it this last week.

Goal#4:  Blog all the things - 1 point for each day I blog, 1 point for posting here

I had some late nights for both here and on my blog, but I did get in everyday to post.

14/14 points.

Total - 37/40 points 92.5%

Not perfect, yet still decent. Room for improvement in this last week of the challenge!

You're still doing great. And losing a nice chunk at first, followed by slower weight loss, is totally normal. Because a lot of that initial drop is usually water weight. Looking at your numbers, I'd guess that you can generally expect to lose 3 to 5 pounds a week with your current plan. Of course, weight loss isn't linear, so don't worry too much if you have a week or two where the numbers refuse to budge. :)

Yeah, my brain just likes to trick me to returning to my old ways sometimes. Make me feel bad to give up, but then I look and see progress is being made. So take that old me brain! ;)
