Brutal Bears: Winter is Coming

Brutal Bears Winter is Coming

got-banner1.jpg.c14cb13683a5ae311ee891a4b574ccda.jpg

Intro:

It has been a crazy couple of years being involved with Nerd Fitness. I have lost a lot of weight (twice) and gained it back (twice). The last couple of years have been really difficult with how much has been going on. I was working two full-time jobs, doing school full time, and buying my first home. Things have finally settled down a bit. I am all moved into the new home, got engaged, dropped to one full-time job, and I finished my newest degree. With everything settling down, it is time to get things moving again. I am at an all-time high weight of 223 (as of this morning). It has been in the negatives around here, so Winter is defiantly here. This makes it hard to do all the outside stuff I like, so I have to get a good inside plan. So, here is to starting fresh and very very simple!

winter-is-coming.jpg.36172377edf3d97d0c564e4c71d02dbc.jpg

Goal 1: Get to the Gym 5 days a week.

This is pretty simple. The YMCA is literally on my way home. I plan on running MWF and lifting/doing upper body TTHS.

Workout Plan: 2-handed mace 3-circuits 10x8x6

360 swing, gravedigger, rebel press, 2-handed paddle swing, uppercuts, ground & pound

Goal 2: Paleo during the week

Nothing has resulted in losing weight quite like going paleo(ish). I am going to still have my weekends for now, but paleo during the week...though my kryptonite is beer...which is paleo right?

Goal 3: Keep off my ass

I will get up and go for a walk at work at least once a day. Sitting all day long is asking for trouble.

Goal 4: Stay active

One of my biggest downfalls has been being active on here. So, I will hop on and at least update this forum once a day!

Starting Pic: IMG_1871.thumb.jpg.f13d24e1d67e1791d37c44afcf0e3460.jpg

Starting Weight: 223.8

Ending Pic:

Ending Weight:

Reward: 2 Pound Indian Club Set From Amazon

Let's take my mace training to next level!

I’m in a cold weather region too that is getting blasted this year! It does make it harder to keep up with exercise when all you want to do is curl up in a blanket with a bowl of stew. Do you have a snow blower now that you have a house? We don’t (no garage to store it in) and shoveling is a heck of a workout! Unfortunately since we had our daughter usually I’m inside with her and the husband has/gets to do it all himself.

Congrats on all your successes (college, House, etc.)! I look forward to seeing how your challenge goes.

I love all of these goals. The YMCA weight room and running track have always been good to me, and with various travels, that includes close to 50 different YMCA branches that I've visited.

Thanks! It has been insane. We hit the lowest temperature in recorded history for our city! I heard this morning that it was colder here in Missouri than the most northern city in Alaska! Luckily I have a heated driveway (as long as it is being nice and working), so I can flip a switch and watch the snow and ice melt. Thanks for hopping on, and I look forward to this challenge as well!

You know, I had never considered the fact that  Y membership one place, means membership in others. This could come in handy if I travel! I just love that I was able to get a couple rate with my fiance and save us some money!

Where in Missouri are you? I’m in Jeff City! Can’t wait to cheer on a fellow Missourian in this challenge!

What?!? Heated driveways are a thing? We live in the future... or at least you do. I still use a shovel like a caveman.

I live in Fulton and work in Columbia. I actually travel to Jeff City every so often for work. I spent a few years developing and running the drug program for the Jeff City/Helias school systems.

I hadn't heard of it until I  moved in here. It was something the last owner put in, it is pretty awesome though!

Update:

So yesterday I hit all my goals. I talked with some people on here, I went for a run at the gym (which I can still feel), ate paleo (though I did also have a couple non-paleo alcoholic drinks as well), and it was too cold to go for an outside walk at work-so I walked up and down the stairs for a total of 12 flights. I also put up my start of challenge picture and weight...I am not sure if anyone does this anymore, but a lot of people did in my first guild when I first got on NF and it kind of stuck. Thanks for all the support, it is much needed and appreciated; I can correlate my success and failure with the amount of support and interaction I have on here!

Ok, so I am working on putting together a new routine for my steel mace to do over these next 4 weeks, and I would really appreciate some warrior advice @Laghail perhaps?

I rock a 20 pound 2-handed steel mace, and I think my new routine will be something like this:

3 circuts10x8x6

360 swings

Grave Diggers

Rebel Press

2-handed paddle swing

Uppercuts

Ground & Pound

Here are two videos which together have all of these workouts and I will post a picture of the 2-handed paddle swing and gravedigger

I’m learning so much that I didn’t know from this challenge. Heated driveways? Steel mace workouts? I want to go out and get a badass steel mace now. Is is improper for me to ask how and where you came by yours, and approximately what one can cost? Also, just out of curiosity, how did you find out about steel mace workouts and things of that nature? I’ve never heard of that before.

Its not weird at all. I love my stell mace, it is perhaps my favorite work out tool! It is the epitemy of an all in one tool that is highly natural and works out multiple muscle groups. I first read about them on the art of manliness and then I follow up by reading more at Onnit. From there I started reading all about them. From there I started with my old 10-pound sledge hammer in the garage, and after getting into it I bought this sledgehammer on Amazon for $60 but price scales with weight. I want to try the clubs soon and I think I may make them my reward for this challenge:

It is my favorite. That's why we started the accountability group Vikings just for mace lovers.

Update: yesterday I went for several walks during work, I did my mace routine, ate paleo (plus some beer), and was very active on NF. So, I would chop that up to a win. I weighed in at 222.2 this morning, which is progress as well. Of course, I forgot my gym bag at home, and I am not sure if I will be able to make my run today-which is not too saddening considering my calves are so sore today it is a challenge to walk-which would make running "fun". On another note, I will do my best to be...reasonable tomorrow. Tomorrow my beloved Chiefs are playing a home playoff game against the Titans, and I am ready for some KC BBQ and beer!

Yesterday I went for a run even though I really really didn't want to...and I'm still feeling it today. Went for some walks and ate close to paleo all day. Today the chiefs are in the playoffs... My beer consumption will be... High lol
