dancezwithkittehz finds some normalcy

IM BAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK. I can't believe it's really only been a month or so. SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED. Do you ever have one of those times where it feels like your life has significantly changed in some way even though it hasn't been that long and on the surface things are more or less the same? Yeah..having one of those times! I guess a really stressful year ending with a trial of LITERAL FIRE and then my cat randomly dying is the sort of stuff that changes a person? Oh, life!

I am pretty happy with where things are as far as exercise stuff so my only specific exercise related goal is going to be FLEXIBILITY! I am fairly flexible just because aerial and dance both tend to include some flexibility work but I don't spend any dedicated stretching time and I'd really like to. For other things I am currently doing aerial once a week, lifting/rings training with trainer once a week, and at least one more day of wacky bodyweight at home. I want to get back to running and walking more as well but the air is still a little smoky so I hesitate to do anything to increase need to breathe while outdoors!

ANYWHO!  Goals!

Goal 1 - Life Balance:  Time has shown I am really good at overbooking myself and I need to not do that! Here are some small goals to try and keep me reeled in:

A. LAZY SUNDAY in full effect for month of January (don't you dare make Sunday plans, self!!)

B. Lazy weekday evening - at least one evening during the week without plans or a class . This will likely be Wednesday evenings but flexible if something comes up

c. Assess Stress Level Once per week - I need to consciously assess how I am feeling about life to determine if I am overdoing it. Lets say this shall currently be something to think about on Sundays since I am making that a designated rest day!

Goal 2 - Flexibility: Spend at least 10 min a day stretching (this can be throughout the day or all at once if I forget.) I'd like to get to where I can clasp my hands behind my back again which I haven't been able to do in YEAAAARS. And this has the very practical application that it will help me with keeping sunscreen on my giant tattoo that is now faded way more than I'd like because of negligence with SPF.

Goal 3 - Declutter: Overall goal is to remove all excess clothes and random stuff from my floor by the end of this challenge. In practical application I will shoot for at least 30 min a week of declutter work, or alternately make sure I do at least ONE thing per day to work towards this. (If I put a clothing item a day into a to donate bag that's a lot of clothes not on my floor!)

This is all for now...I AM pondering adding a lipstick goal since I still never wear any of my collection and this worked for me to get myself actually using eyeshadow. Maybe I will wait until February/ give myself an easy round this time though!!

Sounds like you’ve got a great plan to recharge and recuperate while still moving forward!

Do you use a specific stretching program for flexibility? I am decidedly *not* stretchy in the forward fold and I’m looking for something to get me to pancake...or at least closer.

I don't have a specific program I'm following for stretching. I know lots of stretchy stuff from a past of lots of yoga plus we do a lot of stretching in dance and in aerial, so it's more making myself actually try to do those things more often! The only specific area I am working on is the arms behind the back thing but stretching in general will help eventual goal of getting front splits (pretty sure my hips will not ever be able to actually do a center split but a more flexy straddle is also a long term goal!) I want to say I have seen some specific blog posty things on getting closer to pancake. If I remember where I will link to you! :D

I also spent lots of time hugging my Mango kitty because obviously kitty needs all the hugs. Yay relaxing! And kitty purrs are the best.

Definitely hit stretching goal for yesterday because daaaaaance!!! Lacked time for decluttering again so that's definitely going to be a big chunk on the weekend thing this week. (I had to grocery store, then dance class, then make a pasta salad for a potluck after dance class. GOOD TIMES!)

(Actually contemporary class not modern but this piece is my favorite one in White Christmas and I couldn't resist hahahaha)

Following up !

Re-pancake, there is a drill that works well for me, maybe you are familiar with it already.
First is to stretch sideways, eg bending along the right leg,  but looking up, torso twisting up, make sure both legs stay on the ground. Several times each side.
Then the normal pancake forward stuff.
And then the pancake holding a light weight in your hands and elevating it slightly for 10s for a few sets. This is working wonder for me.
This is one video showing it at the end, unfortunately the sound is crap:

Week a wrap up:

Life balance:  overall a success. Lazy Wednesday evening and lazy Sunday were both a success! My overall assessment of current stress level is I feel good about things for now! We shall see how this next week goes with work most likely ramping up to craziness. We shall see.

Flexibility:  I was good on this for most of the week. I can't remember if I stretched at all yesterday (Sunday) so that means probably not but I am happy that means I did the majority of the week! Baby steps! I think I need to set up some kind of reminder of when to do this within my schedule for the day so I remember to do it. On weekdays I look on here so that helps but I don't look on here on weekends at all so I forget!

Declutter: I don't know that I quite did 30 minutes of this yesterday but I worked on this some on Saturday and some on Sunday. I need to set a timer or something so I make sure I get the full 30 minutes! As for declutter ideas, I am currently waffling over what to do about my cat's hair tie collection (yes my cat has a hair tie collection!  hahahahahahaha). I am trying to clear things from the floor but likewise I like her to get exercise and she loves to play with those. Hmmmmm. I do however wish she wouldn't play with them at 5 in the morning when I am still trying to sleep, but I want her to have access to them during the day when I am gone! Cat mom problems!

Could you just leave them out in the morning before you leave work? If worry about forgetting you could keep them near your toothbrush or something else that you always use in the mornings.

It's a great problem to have though! :D

I was thinking something like this could work as long as I remember to do it. Maybe I could have a little container to gather them all in to hide before I go to bed and then put them back out on my way out in the morning.

How old is your cat? We adopted a kitten recently, she had an intense night life until we got her spayed. Now she is sleeping a bit more consistently at night - but not always... She loves playing with nuts (full nuts with the shell) and those make a lot of noise... I've tried to collect them before night but the little beast is keeping stashes all over the place :disgust:

She is 12. She is mostly pretty chill and her only hyper hours are an hour before I need to wake up because of course. Lol.

Welllllp I totally failed at scheduling any free evenings this week (training Monday night, aerial Tuesday, happy hour Wednesday, dance Thursday, training Friday to make up for missing last week).

BUUUUUT then rain happened here in recent burn scars and the freeway is totally fucked and I can't get to work even if I wanted to, so surprise day off. All day free more than makes up for my lack of free evenings! I'm really really hoping I can get in to work tomorrow but given current mudslide on the freeway I don't know. We shall see! And if I can't work tomorrow I also can't make it to happy hour since that was up near work and not down here.

I really really hope the number of people dead and homes lost from the rain is low but :( I am certain there are people who didn't evac when they should've and there are already two  make that 5 :(  confirmed deaths in Montecito. Worst timing for a storm EVER and the heaviest rainfall was focused right on the place that just burned under a month ago -- mudslide and debris flows were inevitable if heavy rain happened. :

That's awful. :( Stay home and stay safe mmkay.

I'm at home safe and dry and far enough from the hills we shouldn't get any debris flow! Staying off the roads as much as possible today! I am going to aerial though tonight but it is supposed to be done raining by then!
