Bean Sidhe
23 hours ago, Jarric said: So far so good-ish for this week. Monday I went to the gym for Squats and OHP, and finally completed all my sets of squats for the first time in what seems like ages! Which is good, because I've deloaded them twice since last year and it was getting a bit daft. I brought lunch to work (admittedly it was leftover pizza from Sunday, but it follows the letter of the goal if not the spirit), and I got my hanging leg raises in. I need to find another way to do these as my bar is well too low to straighten my legs when I hang from it - I might experiment with leg raises from a mid-point hold or top pull-up hold. IDK. In the evening I had snooker so I did end up spending a few quid on table hire and buying my opponent a drink. I did however stick to tap water all night so avoided spending anything on me or drinking anything. I also won my match, thrashed the bloke actually, so that definitely helps. Yesterday was a run day, so I got to try out my new shoes: Took a pork and green tomato chutney sandwich to work (made by WW). In the evening I had our Pathfinder game, in which I tried to stop some drunk humans picking a fight with a family of half-orc, ended up beating up all of the half-orcs, and then headed back to the hotel with them before we got seen and arrested. At the end of the session one of the party asked why I didn't just call for the guards, and honestly the thought didn't even cross my mind. Monks man, good at hitting stuff but not always so hot on conflict resolution. I stuck to water again at the pub, so no money spent and no beer again. I didn't get my pullups in yesterday - no time before Pathfinder and when I got home I decided I was too tired and wimped out and went to bed instead . This morning I got up and got my HIIT workout in, and man it was hard work! It was a lot more cardio focused than the last one, which I'm clearly lacking in. Definitely got me sweating though and reminded me how much any form of jumping has been missing from my training up until now. I brought another sandwich to work today, just need to remember those bar hangs when I get home! Hey, sorry I have been a bit behind. I am glad the gym went better for you and that you had fun at the pub the other night. I am not going to lie, I love listening to things that happen at roll play games. its always interesting. Sounds like your doing great. Keep it up. Did you get your bar hangs in? 1 Quote You are never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream - C.S. Lewis Link to comment

The key for me was to stop thinking about running and just let my mind wander. On 18/01/2018 at 12:19 PM, Bean Sidhe said: Hey, sorry I have been a bit behind. Jarric
Because typing is hard, here's the challenge so far: Wednesday evening I got my leg raises in. Doing them from either a mid-point hold or the top of a pull up seems to work, but damn my abs hated me for it! The ab work at HIIT earlier in the day probably didn't help! I had a fair few beers at snooker and spent some of my budget, but nothing too mad. Foolishly however I stayed up late down a YouTube rabbit hole when I got in rather than going straight to bed. Thursday I woke up after too little sleep, heard the wind and rain beating against the house, and decided I did not want to get up early and run. After another hour or so in bed I was up and travelling up to London for a day of meetings. Lunch was provided so an easy win on that goal. Got home and finally got to watch the first session of the new Critical Role campaign, and it's so damn good! No spoilers here now, but I seriously recommend you go and watch it. Nearly forgot about my pull-ups, and wasn't really feeling it, but got in sets of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Today I slept in again, for no good reason. I had to leave early for the dentist and that went well at least, and gave me a chance to drop home and make a pork sandwich for lunch before heading to work. Got my gym session in this evening to make up for this morning, and now chilling out in front of the TV and getting in my 4th non-drinking day this week. Tomorrow bouldering, running in my other new shoes as I can actually drive somewhere to get off road, then seeing a Pink Floyd tribute band in the evening. Sunday will be a long run, Sunday roast with the parents and meal prep for week 3. 2 Quote Level 20 Wood Elf Ranger STR: 15 - CON: 21 - CHA: 6 - SAN: 16 - INT: 17 IAgreeWithTank™ "Shit is going down, but I am not." - iatetheyeti Don't say "I don't have enough time", say instead "that's not a priority right now" and see how that makes you feel. Jarric
Week 2 review 1 - Meal Prep - 10/20 - 100% so far 2 - HIIT - 2/4 - 100% so far 3 - Hang Out - 12/28 - 85.7% so far Level Up Your Life - Budget - Yes! Finished with £1.51 in my pocket, so just barely within budget. I did gain a bit of shrapnel in the week when I had to use cash to buy groceries, so in actual fact I might be in or over budget by a few pence, but I'm counting it. 1/4 - 50% so far Bonus - 4 alcohol free days this week - Done! MTTS Saturday was a good day. Went bouldering and had a lot of fun climbing with MG. They also have a slackline there and I managed to get all the way across it for the first time, which I'm very chuffed about. Between climbing and slacklining (and a tea break) I was in there for 3 hours! I went home and had lunch, and then went out running over the downs in my new trail shoes. It's pretty hilly, and the weather was rubbish with almost no visibility, but I still had a good time and managed 6 miles in 1:03 (so 10'30"/mile average) In the evening I went to see a Pink Floyd tribute band and managed to stop drinking once I'd spent my budget (which was still 5 pints, but if I wasn't concerned about the money it could easily have been more). Sunday was long run day. I was procrastinating about going out a lot, but in the end I managed to get out for a 10 mile run. The plan was 13, but I simply didn't leave myself enough time to do that. Had lunch at my parents, sorted some car stuff, and came home for pull-ups and time in fron tof the TV watching Blindspot. Monday. Today I got up and after hitting snooze (twice) I got over to the gym. I really wasn't feeling it and was pretty achy from Sunday's run, but eventually I got myself going. Getting there late I had to cut it short, but deadlifts were still done (5x10 @ 75kg (~165#)), along with floor press. I also brought lunch to work today. Well, I tried to. Rather than picking up the tub with my lunch in however, I instead picked up a tub which contains 4 slices of bacon. Suffice it to say that despite my best efforts this is my first failure on that goal I went to buy some lunch instead! Jarric
Monday - Tuesday Update Leg raises were done last night whilst cooking dinner. Dinner was honey mustard pork with lentils, was really good! This morning I woke up, decided against my run and went back to bed. My legs hurt and I'm tired and I'm feeling a bit ill and I have no idea if I should push through or rest up. Unfortunately whenever I'm in this situation is very easy for my half-asleep self to make the decision to stay in bed. Still, tomorrow is a new day and I will be getting up for HIIT regardless of how I feel. I also managed to bring yesterday's lunch today, and tomorrow I've got leftovers from last night's dinner . A few quid were spent tonight on playing snooker, nothing will be spent today and then Wednesday is a snooker match which will result in me opening my wallet a bit more! 3 Quote Level 20 Wood Elf Ranger STR: 15 - CON: 21 - CHA: 6 - SAN: 16 - INT: 17 IAgreeWithTank™ "Shit is going down, but I am not." - iatetheyeti Don't say "I don't have enough time", say instead "that's not a priority right now" and see how that makes you feel. I've still got half an hour of episode two to watch, but thoughts (spoilered in case anyone hasn't seen the first two episodes of the new Critical Role campaign yet): Spoiler I absolutely LOVE Laura's character. She's so silly and impulsive and I think she's going to get them into loads of awkward situations which can only improve things! Sam's character is great fun, made all the better by the fact that he stuck doing that accent for potentially years! Again, I think I like characters that cause problems for the party because it's great to watch them react to it. Speaking of accents, did you notice Travis slipping into doing Grog when he was going from his guard voice to his Fjord voice? Loved it! I also love Travis as the high CHA player, I think it's going to be fun to see him take the lead in social situations for a change. The rest of them I feel like we've got a lot more backstory to discover before we know much about them, but I think they'll all be really good fun once they're fleshed out a bit. I think the one I want to know most about is Yasha (why is an Aasimar touring with the circus?!), but I suspect that may take a while unless she somehow comes to an arrangement where she can actually be there in person for most of the campaign . Jarric
Challenge wise things are stalling a bit. Bringing food to work is fine (100% barring the one day I brought the wrong tub to work!), and I might be somewhere near on budget for this week with some luck. I haven't got up to exercise this week since Monday though, which both generally sucks and also specifically sucks because it means I've failed my HIIT goal. I also haven't touched the pull-up bar since Monday - I will make sure to get some in tonight but then we're going to stay with WW's parents for the weekend so I'll have to see what I can pull together there. Generally this week has been pretty stressful and not productive enough. Next week will be better. That's not what I really want to talk about now though. What I want to talk about is how much of an absolutely amazing time I had in our first Rise of the Runelords session last night. This group is amazing and I think I'm going to have so much fun! Spoilered for size, let me introduce you to our party: Spoiler First up there's me. I'm playing Ravi, a human sylvan blooded sorcerer with a cindersnake animal companion and a loose interpretation of the concept of property ownership. With a chaotic good alignment and a fey blessing I was not expecting to play the straight man here. I also wasn't expecting my small snake to be our front line fighter, but when you see the rest of the party you'll understand how that happened. Next we have Lynnie, our gnome ranger complete with longbow. Also chaotic good and a damned forest gnome she's still the most sensible and grounded (and sarcastic) of the lot of us. Then there's Liekkie. Liekkie is a hobgoblin fire kineticist and is totally mad. He just wants to eat everything he can and set fire to everything else, and doesn't see any problem with discussing that with all and sundry. In this first session he managed to capture a goblin, who he named Sleepy, and now keeps him in a crate in his room. He also seems to have his own units of measurement, such as "I need a cage a little bigger than an apple crate" and "I need enough food to feed three-quarters of a bear for 5 days". Finally we have Roanne. I don't know what the hell Roanne is, some kind of small flying fairy thing from the Feywild with wooden wings and an appreciation of music. She is so alien to the world that she doesn't understand why Liekkie is not considered a human, or why a dog isn't a cat. She's also a winter witch with a small bird called Jibjab as her familiar. To give you an idea of the party dynamic, we spent most of the session on-and-off disagreeing on how many people were actually in the party. Liekkie thinks there's 5 of us, which we discovered when he bought the first round of drinks. This is because he thinks numbers go 1, 3, 9, 5. He's actually of average intelligence he tells us, it's just that the things he knows aren't the same things as everyone else. Roanne thinks there's 6 of us, on the basis that Loki and Jibjab are more like humans than her because they're material plane beings, she can't comprehend why they don't count towards the party number. I might think there's 4, or 5, or 6 of us, depending if we're dividing up gold at the time and how many of those people I can simultaneously be. Lynnie refuses to get involved in the argument. All in all we're 3 casters and a ranged ranger, so somehow Loki gets to run the front line with his wopping 2 hit die and 16 AC. Riekkie just wants to intimidate and/or grapple everyone. So far it's going surprisingly well! As an aside, the DM is also bloody brilliant. He seems to have near encyclopedic knowledge of all the rules, and he had lots of fun passing us secret notes on information that no-one else knows and particularly on what information I get from Loki or that Roanne gets from Jibjab. 4 Quote Level 20 Wood Elf Ranger STR: 15 - CON: 21 - CHA: 6 - SAN: 16 - INT: 17 IAgreeWithTank™ "Shit is going down, but I am not." - iatetheyeti Don't say "I don't have enough time", say instead "that's not a priority right now" and see how that makes you feel. Jarric
Week 3 review 1 - Meal Prep - 14/20 - 93.3% so far 2 - HIIT - 2/4 - 66.7% so far 3 - Hang Out - 15/28 - 71.4% so far Level Up Your Life - Budget - Yes! Finished with about 20p left, but definitely within budget. 2/4 - 66.7% so far Overall not a great week exercise wise. I don't quite know what's happening there, but I think basically I need to stop being lazy, stop hitting snooze on my alarm and just get up and get on with it (I did not do that this morning either ). Over the weekend I did get in a run on Saturday whilst at WW's parent's house, but I backed out of it on the Sunday as the thought of doing 10 miles in an area I don't really know didn't appeal to me at all. I should have gone once I got home that evening, but we left late and it was getting dark so once again I backed out. I just need to get out and do these things - the hardest step is the first! So bonus commitment for the rest of the week, I've missed my Monday morning workout but I will hit my other 7 workouts this week! I have just had a health review at work, in which they do a body composition scan with a bioelectric impedance scale. I was assured that the equipment they use is much more accurate than the at-home versions of those scales, but I will still take it with a grain of salt. Nonetheless it gave me a body fat percentage of 17.9, a good visceral fat score, a good hydration percentage and a good bone mass score. It also gave me a metabolic age of 26 (I'm actually 28), so whilst nothing outstanding there it's still all pretty good news. The one thing that was pretty average and they recommended improving was my muscle mass, so yet another wakeup that I need to stop skipping gym sessions! It's week 4, lets make it a good one! 6 Quote Level 20 Wood Elf Ranger STR: 15 - CON: 21 - CHA: 6 - SAN: 16 - INT: 17 IAgreeWithTank™ "Shit is going down, but I am not." - iatetheyeti Don't say "I don't have enough time", say instead "that's not a priority right now" and see how that makes you feel. That's a shame. There's always games out there though if you ever want to pick it back up. ====== Firstly, a correction to last week's stats - I finished with about £5.20 left, not 20p, so that's pretty good. Last night I totally forgot to do my pullups. I also totally forgot to do any meal prep for today, which means that I've just been to buy lunch instead *sigh*. I did however run this morning before work. 8 sets of half mile intervals, with 30" slow between each, for a total of just over 6 miles including warm-up and cool-down. First 6 intervals were in the time bracket I was going for or a little too fast, last 2 were too slow, but generally not bad overall. Jarric
Last night I had Pathfinder (in which I mostly tailed various suspects and tried not to get caught). Got home just before 11 and did my pullups and packed up my leftover curry for today's lunch. This morning I hit snooze twice in my sleep. I was having a bizarre dream about something or other and it definitely involved turning off a fake alarm! I woke up almost immediately after hitting snooze the second time, but I knew I was cutting it fine to get to HIIT and I wasn't sure where my clothes were and didn't want to get out of bed to look. Another failure. There's a lesson to go with it though: prepare workout clothes the night before, it's a statement of intent and it's one less excuse in the morning. I shall be trying that tonight. Bean Sidhe
Oh that snooze button is evil. I have been battling it too of late this week so I totally understand the problem. And while mine isn't to get exercise in, its to get us where we need to be going, its still rather inconvenient. In fact, I have determined that the bed and the snooze alarm might be in league to keep me there forever. Hopefully your bedroom furniture isn't conspiring against you and laying out the gym clothes helps. I know its going to sound dumb, but the setting the alarm ahead 10 minutes isn't going to help is it? I also know when Hubby starts oversleeping a bit, he will move his alarm time 2 minutes either way so its not when he expects it and it seems to help him. That might also be a thought 3 Quote You are never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream - C.S. Lewis Link to comment

Who are you liking so far? CriticalRole STuffs. Spoiler I love love love Caleb. Especially Caleb with Nott. I think I just love the broken hero archetype, and Liam is definitely a pro at that. The interaction between those two is so heart warming and great. I did notice Travis slipping accent, haha! Did you hear that he was not even going to USE one at all this time around? It was a last minute switch when he heard Sam and Laura bust theirs out! I also love Laura's new digs. Seeing her go from the 'wallet' of the old group, to the whimsical mischief maker now is so fab.
