RhiaWolfe Awakens from the Sacred Realm (Zelda, OOT)

Ok guys, here we go again. I'm fighting again towards a healthier lifestyle. I have not been successful in the past several months, and I've gained back a lot of weight. Time to turn this around.

I just got back from a short trip. On Thursday a friend of mine and I drove 5 hours to Kansas City, MO to see Markiplier's You're Welcome Tour. It was hilarious and a lot of fun! We then dropped down to Branson, MO for a couple of days. While there we went to the Titanic Museum, Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum, the Wax Museum, and played mini golf. Tons of fun! A lot of junk food though. So I am once again addicted to junk food. I have GOT to kick this. It's time to wake up. I may not have been trapped in the Sacred Realm for 7 years, but it almost feels like it. Time to wake up and get back on task for my quest.

BIG WHY! - First I'm going to remember what my big why is. Why am I doing this? Why do I want to succeed?

My big why is that I want to enjoy life. I want to be able to do more with my life and experience more. I want to be able to go hiking, zip lining, kayaking, and a whole bunch of outdoor stuff without being exhausted. I want to have the energy to take care of myself and those around me. I want to be able to buy clothing from a regular store. There are so many reasons for me to take on this task, but my primary reason is for health and happiness.

Goal 1: Stop eating out - Tonight I'm going to the grocery store, and I'm going to stop eating out so much. I am allowed eating out twice a week. No more than that. I have to make that count. If I do end up going out to eat more than twice a week, the other times must be healthy options.

Goal #2: Hydrate! - So, my goal here is going to be to drink more water. My goal for now is 64 oz of water each day. I think this is doable.

WaterTempleS2.jpg

Goal #3: Practice Sword Fighting - I have wanted to go back to Kendo for a long time. I'm finally going to do it. By the end of this month I want to go to at least 3 Kendo classes. I want to get back into it. Maybe it'll give me more motivation to hit the gym.

Next-Zelda-Will-Use-Motion-Plus-for-Swor

Goal #4: Schedule Down Time - I have started to fall into the trap of planning too much for myself. There's so much I need/want to do that I haven't been taking time for myself. I'm going to practice self care and do better starting now.

Ok, let's get this started. I'll need your help and support to get back on track. This WILL happen damnit!

What causes you to go out to eat more than twice a week? Is there something you can to to help prevent the extra times? Find easy but yummy recipes for when you don't feel like cooking? Meal plan so there's never the question of "what should we have for dinner tonight?" and "do we have all of the ingredients for that".

Sometimes I get tired of cooking so I've made a list of meals that Hubs can cook and make sure we always have stuff on hand for one of them in case I get the idunwannas.

Cutting out restaurants is something I get excited about since (even when picking the best options) isn't that good for your health or your wallet and I'm all for improving both

Recently, it has been the convenience and not having the energy to cook. I'm changing this by #1 going to the grocery store and cooking what I plan to cook. Right now I'm going to cook what I know I'll eat and what I like instead of trying new recipes. I tried a new recipe and it tasted horrible... which made me not want to eat it and just grab something to eat. That's one of the things I"m changing.

Monday, January 8, 2018 Update:

Ok, so Monday was the first day. It wasn't good. Today will be much better, I assure you.

So, I have this diary I have been keeping of what I eat and how I feel. I forgot it at home yesterday so didn't write stuff down. I forgot it again today! UGH! I will write down here though what I ate yesterday and how I felt. Hopefully that will work for now.

7:00am: Breakfast - 2 sausage egg McMuffins & Large Orange Juice | This was before my resolve to change. I woke up late because I forgot to reset my alarm from 8am to 6am. So, I was in a rush and couldn't make breakfast. I stopped at McDonalds for the convenience.

10:00am: Morning Snack - Cinnamon roll from vending machine | Again, not doing so well. I had a craving and I gave in. Again, at this point I wasn't terribly dedicated.

12:00pm: Lunch - Turkey Sandwich from Subway, Water, & Cool Ranch Doritos | Ok, I did better here. I didnt' have time to make my lunch or to bring snacks, so I had to go out. Instead of going out for pizza, I opted for Subway Sandwiches. It was only a 6", but I did have chips. Still, better than earlier. I also made my plan to go to the grocery store and cook in the evening. This was after I posted my challenge and I started looking at my health.

3:00pm: Afternoon Snack - Butterfinger | Ok, so since I didn't have any food with me, I went for a snack from the vending machine. I ate a butterfinger candy bar. I had intended to get peanut butter crackers. I'll have to watch this more carefully. I'm still a little sick and when I'm sick I indulge more rather than less I think.

7:00pm: Dinner - Chicken Tacos | I did what I said I was going to. I went to the grocery store and bough stuff to make chicken tacos. These tacos are pretty healthy. I'm proud of myself for this one. It's a good start. I also have leftovers for a while, so I'll not have an excuse to go out to eat.

8:00pm: Snack - Airheads Candy | Ok, so again, I didn't do well. Tonight I am going to go home and throw away all candy and cookies in my house as to not be tempted. They were sitting on my desk in my computer room where I was sitting and watching tv online. Throwing all that stuff away tonight. Need to get away from the temptation.

Not great, but not horrible.

Goal 1: Stop eating out 2/2 - Pending...

I ate out twice today. Not great, but this was mostly before I decided to turn things around. I'm probably going to go over on this goal for the week, but I'll definitely do better than I did last week. That's what matters!

2017030910574400_F1C11A22FAEE3B82F21B330

Goal #2: Hydrate! - Didn't track yesterday

I didn't track my water intake yesterday. I will be tracking today.

latest?cb=20110121110018

Goal #3: Practice Sword Fighting 0/3 Pending...

I am planning on going to my first Kendo session on Saturday. I will let you know how that goes. :)

Goal #4: Schedule Down Time 1/7 - Success!!!

Last night I cooked dinner, then relaxed with a little TV. I watched some Westworld and didn't look at my phone for a while. I tried to just relax and unwind. I am still a little stressed from what I feel like all I have to do. I feel like I have so much obligation right now. Hopefully I can manage.

I'm glad you're back and recommitting!

One thing that really helps me stay on track is prepping a couple freezable meals, for when I didn't plan/don't want to cook. It makes a huge difference! Meatballs are a favorite - you can dump them right into a slow cooker or a casserole dish with a jar of pasta sauce for an effortless meal, just add a bag of frozen veg, or a quick salad on the side. But find something that fits what you guys like to eat, and when you have the time/energy, bank that effort for the days when you don't have it!

Hopefully today goes more smoothly!

I'd love some ideas for freezable meals. I've never really frozen any food that wasn't processed food from the store.

I have a cookbook called "Don't Panic Dinner's in the Freezer 2". It's all about pre-prepping food and freezing it. Some of my favorite (heavily modified) recipes came from there. I've copied my favorites into a word document and am about to donate it so if you're interested I can send it to you

I've made this recipe before with good success:

https://thrivinghomeblog.com/2016/07/mini-turkey-and-veggie-meatloaves/

And you can make them into patties, instead of mini-meatloaves, for quick turkey burgers.

These might be a good way to avoid the drive-thru on rushed mornings:

http://thepioneerwoman.com/food-and-friends/make-ahead-freeze-breakfast-sandwiches/

Here's a couple casseroles that freeze well, if you have the freezer space:

https://thrivinghomeblog.com/2013/07/chicken-parmesan-casserole-recipe-an-easy-freezer-meal/

https://www.wellplated.com/chicken-broccoli-rice-casserole/

It's a good idea to check out a general guide to food freezing before you get in to it... some things (like potatoes) really don't do well.

Tuesday, January 9, 2018 Update:

I did awesome on Tuesday! I'm going to make this stick this time, damnit! I'm tired of gaining weight and feeling lethargic! I want to have energy again! Let's do this!

Food Log:

6:15am: Breakfast - 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 grapes | Went back to my usual breakfast. Was super sleepy, but made myself do it. I have to remember, it's not motivation that will keep me going... it's discipline and determination.

7:00am: Morning tea - 8 oz Golden Monkey Black Tea | Ah, my morning tea to wake up. No sugar or other additives. I like the actual taste of tea.

10:00am: Morning Snack - Peanut butter crackers | Morning snack was on par. This is what I'm doing to try and wean myself off of vending machine food and sweets. Eventually I will switch this up to something even healthier, but for now, it'll do.

12:00pm: Lunch - Turkey Sandwich & an apple | Homemade turkey sandwich with sprouted grain bread. Getting back to my usual for lunches. Maybe eventually I'll figure out how to change it up, but for now, this is what I'm eating most days for lunches.

2:00pm: Afternoon Snack - Handful of mixed nuts | Needed a little something more after lunch. Didn't want to wait until break time at 3pm. Drank a lot of water though!

3:00pm: Afternoon Snack - Protein bar & Banana | The protein bar I eat is from Trader Joe's and it's actually got nuts, dark chocolate, and whatnot in it. I may try to change this to something a little healthier eventually, but for now it works.

5:45pm: Dinner - Chicken Tacos | Leftovers are awesome. I ate more chicken tacos. Very tasty. I was ravenous when I got home though.

6:30pm: Snack - 1 piece of taffy from my trip | While I was waiting for the popcorn to pop, I had a piece of taffy. I only had once piece though, and I threw the rest of my snacks (most of them anyway) from my trip away so I wouldn't be tempted by them.

6:30pm: Snack - stove-popped popcorn | I was still hungry after the two tacos I had. They were small tacos. Not used to the smaller portions yet. I did do stove-popped popcorn with no butter and just a little seasoning for a snack while I watched Westworld.

Long story short, yesterday was an awesome day! I'm proud of myself for my accomplishments yesterday. Time for round 2!

giphy.gif

Goal 1: Stop eating out 2/2 - Success!

I didn't eat out at all. I didn't even have the desire to eat out. I got cravings for chocolate in the afternoon, but I managed to deal with that and had the snacks I brought to work.

Goal #2: Hydrate! 1/7 - Success!

Total water intake was 72oz of water! Go me!

Goal #3: Practice Sword Fighting 0/3 Pending...

Still planning Kendo for Saturday. I'm looking forward to it! I located my bokuto and shinai for practice. Now I just have to find my gi and hakama.

giphy.gif

Goal #4: Schedule Down Time 2/7 - Success!!!

Relaxed and watched more Westworld. I'm loving this show! It's pretty awesome. I'm almost done with the first season. I think I have two episodes left.

Usually when I make chili, I just want to eat it right away because it's tasty! lol. Maybe I can do that though. I've never made meatballs. Something to try in the future.

Wednesday, January 10, 2018 Update:

Another awesome day! I'm killing it this week! Woot!

Food Log:

6:15am: Breakfast - 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 mandarin oranges | Out of grapes, so I had oranges instead. It was tasty.

7:00am: Morning tea - 8 oz Golden Monkey Black Tea | Gotta have my morning tea. Yum!

11:00am: Morning Snack - Peanut butter crackers | I actually didn't get hungry on my break at 10:00am and so I waited until 11:00am until I ate my snack. I'm trying to practice not eating unless I am actually hungry to see how that goes.

12:00pm: Lunch - Turkey Sandwich & an apple | Same thing as yesterday, but still super tasty. Something I know I'll eat and enjoy that's not horrible for me. I may change it up eventually.

2:00pm: Afternoon Snack - Protein bar | Ate a protein bar my boss gave me to try. It was a cliff bar. Not bad.

5:45pm: Dinner - Chicken Tacos | Leftovers are awesome. I ate more chicken tacos. Very tasty. I was ravenous when I got home though.

8:00pm: Snack - 1 piece of taffy from my trip | This was the last piece of taffy from my trip. No more taffy for me! Still a huge improvement over what I was doing.

So, I didn't have popcorn after dinner. I didn't get hungry. I'm already seeing improvements in my body and how it is getting used to the diet again. Loving it!

Finished Westworld! It was really good and I highly recommend it. I may have to be careful with my downtime though... I really need to work on homework.
