The Answer Lies Within: Tanktimus Continues his Intuitive Eating Journey

Most of my life, I have struggled wtih my weight. I have always sought answers from outside me, from a diet, from counting calories, from exercise. Now I see the answer lies within me. Last challenge I read Intuitive Eating. My most consistent Myers-Briggs score is always the N for Intuitive, in fact it's almost all the way to the N side of the spectrum; it's not surprising the book has resonated with me. This challenge I begin going through the companion workbook. Reading the book was good, and in order to really begin to follow the practices it recommends I'm going to dig deeper, look within, and find my body's hunger and fullness signals. Last challenge I did a very good job giving myself permission to eat, to let go of restricting foods, and to forget dieting forever. In the future I'll get better at responding well to the signals I mentioned; for the present finding and learning to interpret them is the goal. This is also helping me work through my perfectionist tendencies. I want this to be a switch I throw and instantly become an intuitive eater. Instead this is a process with a learning curve, and I'm going to stumble and fall quite a bit. Perfectionists don't like things that don't come easy, which is why we tend to stick with our natural talents. This is to important to give up on. I'm going to do this the hard way, because the alternative is a life of morbid obesity, and I AIN'T GOIN OUT LIKE THAT!

 

So, goals.

1. Make progress on the Intuitive Eating workbook. I'm not tracking this one because that would dip into perfectionism. I'm either working on it or I'm not.

2. 8 Lift days. I lift to be stronger, now and well into old age. This is not about weight loss, though increased muscle mass helps with that. I like lifting, and I really like the results of lifting. I'm using the juggernaut program.

3. 6 Yoga Days. Flexibility is good, it prevents injury, and a consistent practice of yoga now will keep me mobile well into old age.

4. 6 Walk days. I hate running, so I don't run. Walking gets the calories burned, it just does it slower. I may play with some rucks to increase the cardio aspect.

5. Domestic Rangering. At a minimum do the laundry once per week. Cleaning bathrooms and the kitchen is good too.

 

Let's do this.

I know you and I have a lot of the same problems with food and weight. I've basically given up on the idea of intuitive eating, and did so before I even joined the rebellion. I'm very interested to see how this works for you. I kind of see it as the Holy Grail!

:) I'd rather change tactics then fight the same losing battle over and over... It's a little more complicated than that tbh. I don't really do anything intuitively, my brain isn't wired up that way; and for me following the numbers and weighing and measuring all the things is far less infuriating than trying to figure out the signals my body is trying to give me.

One of the things I realized is that numbers work in the short term for me, but are unsustainable. If I do some sort of program I'll lose weight, but the program won't last forever. Intuitive Eating feels like something that will not work in the short term but is sustainable, if I stick with it it will start working. For me it means giving up short term success in order to gain long term success. I've gained a lot of inches on my waste since letting go of dieting; I'm holding out that things will normalize soon.

Have we perhaps found yet another area of daily life in which Myers-Briggs is useful for explaining the different strengths and tendencies we all have???

I'm going to try to follow along! I admit, the only reason I didn't last cycle was that I find your thread overwhelmingly popular, and feel bad about my inability to keep up. Even though I know that you don't mind me just popping in when I can! Silly brain.
