Anim Builds Momentum

Anim07734

Recommended Posts

The path had been easier to find than expected, once Anim had set his mind to finding it.  The familiar ruts had guided him back to the track he had tread many times before.  Now he had ground to regain.  And obstacles, both new and old, peaked through the grass ahead of him.  The best way to prepare for them was simply to keep moving, though, and build up the momentum to smash through when he reached them.

Getting back on track last month went better than expected.  So instead of changing things up, I'm just going to keep chugging along.

Goals:

5 workouts per week - One more than last month's goal, but I managed it easily last week.  Still not specifying what they need to be, just trying to build the habit and make sure I can stick to it.

Cook once a week - The main problem at this point is that the GF doesn't like leftovers.  So since I only get to see her on the weekends, I need to minimize how much I go out to eat the rest of the week.

Complete at least 5 project tasks - Current list, each line counts as one.  Since I'm treating this as a five-week challenge, I'm increasing the number to trying sticking with a one project a week average.  If things go well, I'll finish two this week (a little over halfway finished with each, I think).  Then I need to make Joker Fett by Pensacon on 23Feb.  Depending on how long that actually takes, I'll try to update other costumes as well.

I've been trying to get pictures for an update, but my work PC doesn't like Flickr anymore, so they'll have to wait till I have time at home.

Managed 6 workouts last week (3 strength, 3 runs), cooked once, and put the finishing touches on Harley's light-hammer and the Joker Fett gun.  So I'm pretty happy with my Week 0.

Last night I cooked after my run and got the torso armor cut for Joker Fett.  Hoping get the worbla done on that so I can start sealing it and figure out what I want to do for the gauntlets.  Also on tonight's to-do list are finding a pattern for the knee plates, making my GF a valentine's card, and inventory my drinks and continue to clean for my party this weekend.

Wow thats a long list.

Most of the list doesn't have a deadline or even a priority.  I just have to write everything down in one place or I'll forget about it. :playful:

The armor is made from craft foam, I'm using both 3mm and 6mm depending on what it is.  It's glued together with Barge's All-purpose cement.  You can use superglue, but that heats up enough to burn you while drying and doesn't give you much time to attach the pieces.  The cement takes longer (apply to both sides, let dry ~30min, then attach and let cure for a day), but you get a little bit of adjustment and it dries flexible.

I'll be covering everything in Worbla to make it hold the shape I want and stiffen it to look more like metal plates.  I'll then have to seal/smooth it, probably with Mod Podge since I don't have time to get the specialty glue from Worbla.  Then just paint with regular spray paint.  It should end up light enough to attach with velcro, so I can still wash the vest afterwards. :playful:

Haven't had time for pictures, but just enough time for an update before I leave for Pensacon.  Costumes are as complete as they're going to be (and I have my repair kit packed).  Managed 5 workouts last week (should have been 6, but I spent the weekend bouncing between costuming and laying on the couch exhausted).  Only 3 so far this week, for the same reason.

Cooked twice last week, but I'm going to count the pulled pork for this week, since I made it for my Unbirthday Party on Saturday with the intent of eating on it the rest of the week.

And with the Joker Fett suit and armor "complete," I'm at 4/5 projects for this challenge.

So if I can manage a couple workouts this weekend, I'll still be on track.  "Being Nightcrawler" may be my Saturday workout, depending on how in character I get. :playful:

Grats on getting the costumes done, and not "frantically sewing the night before/morning of" that seems to happen to us all. Hope the con is a blast.

I was gluing things back together in the hotel room, but that's just part of cosplay. :playful:  My armor didn't hold up as well as I had hoped, but I've got some ideas on how to fix it for next time.  My GF took all the pictures, so I'll post some once I get copies.

Unfortunately, Pensacola was too flat and the convention buildings too crowded for me to do much with Nightcrawler.  I'm going to count all the walking as a workout, but that still only leaves me at 4 for last week.  And I forgot my gym clothes at home, so I'm going to have to remember to do something when I get home tonight in order to catch up.

Haha, glad you got them together in time! Were you happy with how they looked? (Even if the durability was less than desired)?

Need to work on the fit and figure out a better way to paint/seal it, but overall I'm happy with it.

My favorite of the GF's costume.  The hammer was her Valentine's (Second Halloween) present from me.

Lack of updates is lacking...

Not much to say, last week was mostly recovery from the con and getting back on track with my workouts.  Just managed to get my 5 workouts and actually cooked twice since the GF was on leave and coming over for dinner most nights.  No projects, but I started getting stuff together last night to get at least one done this week.  We'll see how things go.

Not on my list, but I spent most of my free time last week painting custom Nerf guns for the GF's nieces.  They both wanted cash for their B-day, but we decided that was boring. :playful:

That puts me at 5 projects for the challenge.  Plus I got my cooking and workouts in.  That leaves me at ~90% success this challenge, so I think it's time to start dialing things in.
