Six and the Road to Redemption

"Redemption is something you have to fight for in a very personal, down and dirty kind of way" - Joss Whedon

Mr. Six has ridden into view after a prolonged absence.  In his last quest, he set out with the glint of gold and crimson in his eye but the telegraphs ceased within a mere fifteen days.  So now begins his fight for redemption -- loosely played out to the rules of Bang!

Part 1: Vision QuestThe hub of this challenge will center on a commitment to daily meditation.

Grand_Canyon___Canyons_of_Utah_attr_41.jpg

Part 2:  If it's in the Cards... - The physical aspect of this challenge will be played out with a random draw of a Bang! card.  This will also occur daily, but knowing that life happens -- I will start the challenge with five lives and can acquire more if the correct card is drawn and action completed.

I don't have time to designate an action to every card in the deck, so my actions will align with the categories set out below:

  • image.png.9ad754798fcc69d0b56ca055c481cda3.png - Progressive Calisthenics!
  • image.png.03d0d3c07166d99bf578bf272de1aabd.png - Yep, might have a double workout.
  • image.png.a8ff704de81797eb7c7ba0e8f46fe9de.png - Agility training!
  • image.png.91b6e175d7c965c2c4985233b02de44b.png - Extra Life!  Yoga/Qi Gong/self-care
  • Cards relating to distance (horse, hideout, guns) - Run
  • Clusterf*** Cards (Indians, howitzer, brawl)  - HIIT

Part 3: Break Camp - Keep up on chores

Part 4: GOLD! - Budget, taxes, etc.

Part 5: Letters home - Touch base with @Lilmissbri at least twice per week.

Will you draw a physical card to determine each day, or use an RNG?

Thank you and I'm glad to be back.  Drawing a physical card is the plan.  I feel like it will keep the challenge (a) more tangible and (b) more fun.  But we'll see...

Day 1 on the Road:

Card drawn - Missed

Action - Agility workout - 30 pushups; 30 squats; 25 high knees; 25 butt-kicks; 50 each line jumps (side to side; front to back; and Ali shuffle).

Break Camp - Load of dishes in the dishwasher before work!

The hardest thing was starting this morning.  I just kept thinking...it was a long night with the kids, but if I can't make it out of bed this morning, I never will have the motivation to.

I love the idea of using a card game for a challenge.

Oh man, my wagon turned over while fording the river and I got scurvy.

Two sick kids under four and had a temp of 102 last night.  I guess I'm on light duty until further notice, but I want to keep up with the mediation and yoga for the next few days until I'm feeling better.

Cheers,

Six.

Sending some good healing vibes your way. Hope the kiddos get better soon.

Thanks all.  So it turns out that I got chicken pox for the second time in my life at 32... so the great game of Bang! has been postponed and I'm convalescing.  I have had the opportunity to do some solid meditation, reading, and some yoga and stretching.  In other excitement, I have an opportunity to pick up some awesome exercise equipment at auction (TRX, Yoga supplies...all manner of things).

Take care of yourself nerds and I will check in again soon!

Uugh that sounds horrible! I hope it's at least a mild case.

Had to read up on that, because I didn't think you could get it twice. Hope you feel better soon, we'll be here when you heal up.

I was also told that if you had a mild outbreak as a child you could potentially get it again later in life. Then I learned you could get it regardless of how bad you had it as a kid but It's rare.

Yeah, I would have handled my own kids with a little more caution if I thought I was at risk of getting it a second time.

The interesting thing is that both of my kids have been vaccinated too.  At the outset, I was like awww....shit:

Six saunters into the rebellion-held town of Silver Sluice.  While he carries the marks of his illness, he is largely restored and ready to continue his quest.

Part 1: Vision Quest  I have done a pretty good job of daily meditation.  When I was laying in bed without anything to distract me from the pox, mediation was the best way to calm the itching and my mind.  Will keep this up though to manage the stress of a prolonged absence at work.

Part 2:  If it's in the Cards... - I have not kept up with the cards.  We had a good snowfall on Monday though, so I got in two shoveling sessions in mighty cold weather so I'll count those as both exercise and cold training.  I have tried to stretch regularly despite being sick and I feel like that has helped keep my neck and back happy despite being more sedentary than I like.

Part 3: Break Camp - Hells yeah.  The biggest benefit to being stuck at home and worried about contagions.  The house is clean as fresh snow in the mountains.

Part 4: GOLD! - Taxes are probably 60% done, but I need to track down some real estate documents...grumble.

Part 5: Letters home - I have not been as good at this as I should have been.  I can only go up from here.

Reading: Beautiful Practice by Frank Forencich

Listening to: Awaken the Giant audiobook and the new album by Foster the People

Watching: The Olympics and Altered Carbon

Excited about: My Rocketbook (this thing is awesome) and spending some time in the mountains this weekend with family.

What is a Rocketbook?

It is a reusable notebook that captures notes and connects them to the cloud (email, dropbox, google drive, etc.) based on which symbol you designate at the bottom of the page.  The website may do a better job of explaining it than I can: https://getrocketbook.com/

Y'all, this has been a bad challenge for me with regards to physical activity.  But I have found myself on one heck of an introspective journey and all at once wisdom from a handful of sources seems to be coalescing for me all at once.  Meditation has helped with this process and with managing some of the stress related to work and adulting.

I've been lousy at following the forums, but I wish anyone reading this the best in their own quests and I hope that things settle down so that I can be more involved again.

Until then,

Six

Sometimes life throws you curveballs. Sounds like you've been able to roll with this one (metaphorically), and focus on a new priority. Hope it's going well for you.
