I second (or third, or fourth) and I will say that you are definitely an adult in the best sense of the term for so many people! Inspiring them to do better and be better with themselves. If that is not an adult, I don't know what is (who cares about cleaning!)

Fair! I think this app (flora for anyone who is interested) prevents you from using your phone while the timer is on, but that doesn't help for the time before the timer starts or after it ends :P.

I've looked into Freedom before - you have to pay for the functionality that allows you to set schedules for blocking apps/sites, right?

That's an amazing difference in mobility - glad you finally found something that directly addresses your pain!

You do pay for freedom, but it's like $2 a month - which is worth it, imo

Hi, following along!

I know the feeling. Computer game music is particularly good for studying - it's designed to keep you focused on the game but it's good for focus in general. I can thoroughly recommend the soundtracks to the Deus Ex games for starters.

Ummm, I also have a scap problem (left side for me) that makes it glitch out when it tries to glide and that picture made my jaw DROPPP. I was thinking about going to PT through a Dr. referral as per usual, but now I'm considering just checking out a few of the places I know do dry needling. :x

It's ridiculous the difference, right? Just being able to use my shoulder has made such a difference this week - both positive and negative (my body is really confused, tired, and moving in a way it hasn't been able to move in years - so some movements have been a complete disaster. All long term positive, but short term has been rough!)

This PT doesn't take insurance, I go to him regardless. I see him about once a month and it's so much more worthwhile than any other PT I've worked with.

That picture is amazing in the difference

It's been over a week, you ok?

Hi! Actually, no, I wasn't. I got really sick, and it was all I could do to keep up with work as much as possible.

My phone stopped working mid week, and had to get that fixed. And then this morning, I got up and my main laptop just - flashing circle with a slash in it, so it's currently reformatting and reinstalling iOS.

Soooo that leads me into this week's update:

last week sucked.

I slept a lot. And was sick. And had a lot of technology issues.

Things I did do:

-Slept a LOT

-Get a new notebook to help me with my planning. Still working on setting it up, but I like it a lot.

I finally made it back to the gym - just split 2 days up into 3 days.

Thursday,

Deadlift - 315 for 3x3

Pullups - 5 sets of 11 (banded)

Lat pulldown

Back Flye

Half kneeling single arm dumbbell press

curls (in the squat rack, which my old coach caught on film D:)

and Friday

Drop Snatch - up to 55kg, 3x3

Bench Press - 3x3 at 155 with 3ct pause on last rep

Back squat - 3 sets of 4 at 205 --> this is the most I've ever squatted with no knee sleeves or belt, ever. I've always had one or the other, for as long as I can remember. My pre-knee sleeve days squat PR was 200. So that's kind of cool, even though it was like 6 years ago haha. Since tearing my ACL, knee fear has been huge.

Skater squats - 4x15 per leg

Bird dogs - 4x12 per side

Ring Dips - 2x10 with turn out on first 3

and Saturday

Muscle up - 4x4

Pull-up: 8x2

Banded pull up / Russian Push up / Hollow Rock / Tuck Crunch / Hollow Hold superset:

12 - 8 - 10 - 10 - :10

Ring Pushup: 1x10

Handstand Hold : 1:00

Overhead press / hammer curl: 4x12

and that's it for now. Hoping to make this next week awesome, at least with all of the tech issues and new notebooks I've got a fresh start...

I'm sorry you had such a rough week. I hope you're completely healed up and done with tech gremlins for a long time.

Thanks! It's not often that I get sick, but with all of the stress of this year it was bound to happen. Glad it's over with!!!

Sorry to hear about your and your IT gadgets being down... Hope all is better and your phone and computer are back too!

Also good to see that when you are sick you also recommend not pushing too hard and then focusing on bodyweight first until you are 100% back. #selfcare for the win!

So here's a thing.

After a lot of no sleep, feeling like I was in a fog, just always feeling stressed and every little thing getting to me, my boyfriend had a talk with me about going to see my therapist again because I haven't been "not sad" since my grandmother passed. (very supportive conversation, btw, and he's willing to go with me).

So I took Friday off work (which was planned anyways, I work weekends so Friday is going to be my "day off"). I have an appointment with my therapist next week. I got my hair done.

And I feel great. Starting to feel like myself again. Like making that appointment took a huge weight off my shoulders. I think the last few months have been really hard for me to understand and I'm now just ready to accept it and talk about it. I know there are traditional stages of grief, maybe I'm finally at acceptance, even though I'm still angry with myself for a lot of things.

So this challenge has sucked. But I think what I should have done in the first place is taken more time away. I was sick for part of this, but I think being "sick" covered up being depressed.

Anyway. I'm working on it. I feel good. and I'm moving forward.

The author that wrote that book put the stages in the order she did because 1) it fit the pattern of what most people did and 2) it had to be put in some kind of order. In reality most people bounce back and forth between the stages, and sometimes are in more than one at once. Everyone grieves differently, and the only wrong way to grieve is not to do so. I'm glad you are starting to feel better. You are still amazing.

The Great Reading Thread of 2023

“I've always believed that failure is non-existent. What is failure? You go to the end of the season, then you lose the Super Bowl. Is that failing? To most people, maybe. But when you're picking apart why you failed, and now you're learning from that, then is that really failing? I don't think so." - Kobe Bryant, 1978-2020. Rest in peace, great warrior.
