farflight
I stand by my words and one of my fictional role models... I understand we all have different opinions...and I'm okay with yours being wrong...that's just fine... Seriously though. We do have a cat and a dog. The main difference I see, my dog wants nothing more than to be with me, make me happy, and be a part of my life. The cat...well, wants his food filled up, has mastered learned helplessness, and only wants attention on "his terms" (i.e. about 2 minutes after I've laid down to go to sleep). I do like this quote I read somewhere..."Dog is man's best friend...cat is man's reclusive roommate that poops in a box" To each their own, but I stand by my opinion...dogs 1 Quote Fitbit username: farflight (would love to have more people on there) Getting life in order is a challenge worth doing. GodzillaKong
I can see why people like dogs but they're just so needy and excitable. And a reclusive roommate who poops in a box sounds ok. To quote your hero... 1 2 Quote Link to comment

I tend to look at it as a more healthy co-dependence/enmeshment. My dog doesn't really get "needy" so much as she really wants to be included. If I'm chilling playing games, she just curls up on the couch next to me, or indicates that she wants to go outside and then entertains herself some. I do owe that dog a significant thank you as she helped/helps me stay active, gets me off my ass and such...and is part of what keeps me sane in the afternoons. I guess...in my view...dogs are companions/friends where as cats are more like roommates. I do love that swanson pic too! JustCallMeAmber
Cats or dogs? I have both the content-to-mostly-ignore-you-unless-there's-food model of cat and the model that wants to sit on my face when he wants attention. Dog mostly just wants to be the center of attention at all times. Hard to say which of those is the more "needy".. 1 Quote We will never see the best version of ourselves inside our comfort zone Link to comment

That describes my cats to a tee. They both love attention and go out of their way to show affection to both of us, to the point where it becomes incredibly annoying at times. For example, when the game is tied with less than ten seconds left on the clock, and one of the other team just fouled out, the cats need to stay out of the way. They refuse. This becomes an issue. The biggest difference between my cats and my dog (other than physical size), is that the dog understands that "no means no". Cats don't understand what "no" means at all. Honestly, having had cats for nearly two decades now, I remain mystified by the whole, "cats take advantage of you and don't really care about you" cliche because that has never been my experience with my own cats, or with cats belonging to my friends. They are affectionate and loving creatures, and they are great company, especially if you're living alone aside from the cat. And if you're not a part of their circle, they will look at you with disdain and contempt, but since most people do that as well, I don't get why that is a problem... (apologies for double-posting... I was not caught up in the thread until now.) 2 Quote The Great Reading Thread of 2023 “I've always believed that failure is non-existent. What is failure? Looking forward to Wednesday, I *THINK* I've figured out that I was doing barbell rows just all sorts of wrong (mainly being too low down and not giving myself a good range of motion, will check back in on these Wednesday). Leaving food on table: left some good cals on the table over the weekend. My numbers will likely decrease as I've altered my MFP settings. I think I might have been "re-eating" too many calories, or double counting my 'burned' cals. I've since (Saturday) changed my activity level to "sedentary," which knocked my total allotted cals from 2280 down to 1890. I'm hoping this should give me a good baseline as to how much I can "re-eat" based on calorie expenditure. Still ended up leaving 896 cals on the table yesterday. 3 Quote Fitbit username: farflight (would love to have more people on there) Getting life in order is a challenge worth doing. Glad to hear the butt is healing up and you can squat - even if not as heavy as you want to. At least you are getting under the bar, that'll probably help it heal faster as long as you keep listening properly when your body NOPEs at you. farflight
To but the debate to rest... Gym went...well it went this morning. Squats up to 145, still hurts coming out of the hole, but I am able to do them Bench 130 (5/5/3/4/4), I'm counting 4s on the last two sets as I had a spotter, while he says he didn't help, it sure felt like he did. Does the rep still count if a spotter "helps" Barbell row 120, seems better with improved form and not setting up like I'm in the hole of a squat. Was a challenge getting the bar all the way up to chest, was a few inches short on the last few, so scored those as 4s...definitely feeling more soreness in my upper back with the better form (not pain, but like "damn he figured out how to use us") Calorie battle: Left 993 on the table yesterday (1890 alottment - 2118 food + 1221 exercise = 993). A friend has suggested I cut out my sugars, which is probably a good idea...but sugars are delicious...so I'm going to start looking through MFP Data to see where sugar is hiding/blatantly strolling through my diet and see what I'm willing/able to cut out Bluh, internal battles. Therapy tonight. 1 Quote Fitbit username: farflight (would love to have more people on there) Getting life in order is a challenge worth doing. farflight
Friday update! Gym went very well this morning, was getting all pumped as I'd done 4x5 on OHP...then came the last set...1, 2, 3, *struggling*, 4... ...no phoenix downs, potions, or resists, entire part KO'ed... Deloading OHP (Grrrr) Squats are feeling better...ish. Was hoping to jump more than the 5x5 recommendation, but I figure I'll ease my way back up to 190 lbs, I can focus on form while I'm working my way back up there. Deadlift: I was able to do the motion again at least, dropped weight down to 190 (before injury was on deck for 240). I know I'll get back to the top limits again, just surprised how much a fall on your ass can set you back. Thank god I'm compulsive and stubborn as hell. I guess part of the problem lies in where the injury/bruising occurred, given that I didn't see any dermal bruising...my only guess is that the bruise....is in the bone? Squats 150 lb 5x5...check OHP 95 lb, 5/5/5/5/4 .....damnit Deadlift 190 lb...check Cals left on table yesterday: 1,052 I did learn that my dog is, surprisingly not the best run partner. After 0.88 miles, I was jogging and was only able to pump my right arm (dog was lagging). So we switched to a walk. Therapy work: no couples therapy this week (counselor got sick), after I got all pumped up and ready. Individual work went well (I think) Woooo weekend! 2 Quote Fitbit username: farflight (would love to have more people on there) Getting life in order is a challenge worth doing. farflight
Updates... A$$ has finally healed up...I think. Was able to lift all the lifts thus far this week (even deadlift with 200 lbs). Deloading on OHP and Bench tomorrow as prompting by the 5x5 app. Work is attempting to kill me...which is disheartening. If anyone has figured out how to be in 3 - 900 places at once, please let your local school staffer know...we desperately need that technology. Cals left on table yesterday: 1916 (1890 - 2089 + 2115) Walked in the rain with the puppers, which was oddly enjoyable. Peace out... 2 Quote Fitbit username: farflight (would love to have more people on there) Getting life in order is a challenge worth doing. farflight
Updates updates, updates! 5x5 lifting Confirmed fully healed backside as no pain in lifting/squatting. While weights aren't back to pre-fall amount, am trying to focus on form and maintenance. Todays results: Squats 165 lb...check Bench 115 lb...check (deloaded from 3x failures at 130) Barbell row 120 lb...check Run (I know, I've added a 10-15 minute run at the end of the lifts... ) Yesterday's cals left on table (according to MFP)-1225 (1890 allowed - 2111 eaten + 1446 burned) Have found out that I shouldn't walk in the afternoons in my vapor gloves ("trail runner" shoe I use for the gym) as it causes SEVERE foot pain afterwards (beats me as to why) Tonight....STEELDRIVERS at the New Daisy theatre in memphis... 3 Quote Fitbit username: farflight (would love to have more people on there) Getting life in order is a challenge worth doing. farflight
WEEEEEKEND update. Got tons of shit done and thoroughly enjoyed Friday nights concert. Sang, off key, the entire time and loved every second of it. If you like bluegrass, or just music that tells a story, PLEASE check out the steeldrivers (as they refer to their genre...uneasy listening). Lots of good songs, two of my favs: "Where Rainbows Never Die" and "Sticks that Made Thunder." They are on youtube...I figure you guys should be able to utilize uncle google enough to find em No lifting over the weekend but tons of active stuff. Cleaned out garage...cleaned out gutter over the garage (for the first time in about 5 years...it smelled a little bit (after uprooting some saplings...) Lifts went well this morning. On track and no pains. Calories over the weekend...carbed the F out, left only about 20 cals on table saturday, yesterday at a box of emmentelar cheese nips (yes...they are that good), and a pesto shells and cheese with fake crab meat...
