I am going to continue with my theme of very minimal challenges while I re-figure out where I am in life. Things just feel different these days and it’s not like, bad different but it IS different and different requires slowing down and assessing and adjusting.

 

GOAAAAALS

 

CORE EVERY DAY  - I think this one is pretty self explanatory! I plan to do at least some core work every day (this can be as minimal as doing a plank for 30 seconds/ but can be much more!)

 

February Cut - I am SO FREAKING CLOSE to being rid of excess chubs. It’s been a suuuuuuuuuper gradual loss over like 3 years or so which is good and all but dude I want this excess belly chub gone like now. I’m planning to do a slightly more aggressive and intentional cut for the month of February.

 

Currently I am tracking calories and I may keep doing but we shall see; I may shift to instinctive eating and shooting for feeling slightly hungry at all times. In general I am shooting for 2k calories per day (when I was tracking previously I was doing 2300 for maintenance which had me losing slightly already. I really would like to get BMR and a DEXA scan sometime for more accurate numbers but going with what has been working for now! There IS a place in LA that does both but the BMR one you have to not workout for 12 hours or something and then you can’t have caffeine for at least 6 hours and just..I dunno. NO COFFEE IN THE MORNING?! WHY?!?! Hahahaha.)

 

Life balance/ DONT YOU DARE OVERBOOK - Check in on stress level once per week and cut things from my schedule (or add!) if I need it.

 

Life goal things - go places alone at least 1x per week.   I want to spend more time out and about along to give myself more chances to possibly run into a guy I would want to date someday. I am kind of a cheater in that I already signed up for a beginner improv class I have to go to alone down in LA every week, but I would like to add side adventures before or after said class and I also want to try to do some local alone in public time things too.  Most of my current hobbies here are very lady centric and/or just sassy gay boys for the most part (dance and aerial) or are me hanging out with people I already know and know I don’t want to date and while I LOVE THESE THINGS I would like to meet someone I want to date eventually. And I F-ING HATE ONLINE DATING HATE HATE — like, I can make a conversation with almost anyone and just seeing a picture of people doesn’t tell me if I’d actually have any chemistry in person and just NOPE not my jam. Also, I used to do more things alone but rather by accident I have companions along for most everything I do these days! I need to plan intentional not with other people time!

I've decided to cut this goal for this round since my not overbooking goal is directly conflicting with this one!

Sooooo I stuck to 2k calories yesterday but half of that MAY have been beer....Am I doing this cut thing right? :lol:

THIS IS TRUE. We have a good one in downtown SB also. I just feel weird going alone. I like the top rope area but you can't really do that by yourself. I think I need to take a bouldering class to get over my fear of the bouldering area of the gym because there is a big one and i just...never go over there. lol. It's not even the fear of the bouldering itself but like...going over there and trying it because it's always crowded and I have no idea wtf I am doing!

So far challenge is going well!

 

Core: I have done at least something core-wise every day since last Wednesday-ish. I think my go to things will be either our usual ground ab work set we do for my aerial class, or my dance teacher's obnoxious torture fest or maybe combining the two because really I can get it done in 10 minutes. Our usual aerial core circuit is 10-15 hollow body rocks or pike overs on the floor, 10-15 straddle crunches or straddle overs on the ground, and 10-15 floppy fish evil oblique crunch things per side. The dance one is ... hard to explain in text but is very oblique heavy and has us doing lots of side to side rotations in boat pose-ish? It's evil anyway!

 

Cut: So far so good! I am making several new recipes and trying to find more that are veggie centric as I tend to fail at working those in if I don't plan it out. I already seem to be looking a bit smaller in the mirror when I look sooo I think the cut is working, just have to keep it up! The main area that really has extra fluff is my belly which always loses fat absolutely last, thus making it look extra giant and more obvious than it actually is. BLEGH.

 

Anywho, recipes! Both the things I made this weekend were adaptations of things from Budget Bytes. I made spicy roasted cauliflower and topped it with sausage gravy NOM NOM and then I made an adaptation of her pork dragon noodles but I did half and half zoodles and lo mein (could go all zoodle also if you wanted!) The pork zoodle noodle mix plus spicyness was SO FREAKING GOOD. (So was the cauliflower plus sausage gravy but I make sausage gravy all the damn time because I already know it's one of my favorite things and I usually put it on plain roasted broccoli.)

 

Life Goal - go places alone - I went to my improv class but I did not do anything extra this week. I was suuuuuper stressed about showing one of my rental units to a friend and was both afraid she would hate it and also was afraid somehow my renter wasn't going to be there/ that the coordinated plan to get everyone there at once wasn't going to work. It was on my mind all week taking up all my extra brain energy for extra stuff. She came and looked and it went OK and was not the end of the world, so yay. I had wanted to go to the drag show my friend was hosting on Saturday night or go down to LA earlier in the day before improv but meh. Adventures next weekend! I will make something happen! I do totally need to figure out a time to go climbing though...I am thinking that going to their Saturday bouldering intro class would be a good way to MAKE myself try the bouldering area, but i won't be able to do that until this improv class is done with!

Today in lessons learned:

 

1. DUDE. Lifting during a cut is HARD and humbling! Between my strength sucking and my pain tolerance being super low so hook grip was like FFFFFFF OWW OWW it was...not an impressive night. I did warn my trainer so he tried to keep things lighter on me since he agreed my strength would probably be sad and yeah VERY correct. UGH.

 

2. Dark blue eyeshadow is dangerous. Somehow it managed to wander under my eyes during my commute (AND I SET IT SO WHAAAT?!? HOW?!) and I looked something like this when I got to work:

I guess rare day where I am glad it took me 2.5 hours to get here so I immediately needed to swing by the bathroom? THANK GOODNESS I have emergency concealer tube at work.

WORD. ALL THE STRUGGLE. I have aerial tonight soooo we will now see how cut month aerial goes! I imagine it will be sad and floppy hahahahhaha.

 

And yesssss thank goodness for concealer. Though right after I thought I had fixed the situation one of my coworkers asked if I was having allergy problems today sooooo maybe not as successful a cover up as I would have thought? WOOPS. lol.

 

Also! Your navel gazing challenge has inspired me to try to direct my navel gazing a bit more since it is very much in the "I SENSE I NEED TO THINK ABOUT LIFE BUT I DON'T KNOW IN WHICH DIRECTION I SHALL THINK!" I know I am more or less happy with things right now but this isn't how I want my life to be for forever and I want to figure out what direction I want life to go and how I could go about moving towards that. DECISIONS YAY.

I FINALLY MANAGED TO GET AIRPLANE IN HAMMOCK. It's one of those things that isn't that hard but for some reason I just couldn't quite figure out how to do it. It finally occurred to me that getting into it is basically a back roll which I do ALL THE TIME in dance on the ground. And voila I was able to do it last night! I did it three times just to make sure I had it! WOOOOOT.  I sadly could not manage the new thing we were learning last night because I am a sad weak panda and inverting in the air was just not happening. I definitely need to go drill catchers at some point also because that will help a lot with this one. (We started learning a long pretty sequence to get into waterfall/360 drop in a less direct way basically. Hahhaa)

Weekend was good! I didn't go on any solo adventures but I did get slightly caught up on sleep, so yay! I definitely need to work on getting enough sleep as lack of sleep makes me a crankypants! Something to work on!

Challenge round up for last week:

 

Core Every Day:  Yep! Success on this one. I got every day of this even if it was something super duper minimal like one crunch or something.

 

February cut - So far so good but I am realizing the timing on this was not good. Didn't think about how lack of sleep + not enough calories, + not giving up on training was going to make me an angry monster basically. This weekend I let myself eat extra as well as sleep extra to try and get my mood back to something useful.

 

Don't overbook - Need to work on this! Sooooo last week definitely feels like I am getting into the overbooking zone but I think part of that is doing ANYTHING when I am tired and hungry feels like a lot sooo yeah. But happy hour days these past few weeks have TOTALLY been worth it even if they took up rest days technically. This week also is going to be super ridiculous with plans every day so I know in advance it's going to be a lot. WOOPS. (Going to a show on Sunday, plus a show after improv on Saturday -- just bad timing that those happen to fall on the same weekend!) I also made plans for Friday night but I am thinking maybe I should skip those, but those are with some of my best friends and it's us goofing around and eating and dancing which also sounds pretty fun? I don't know. Thinking about it!

 

Solo wandering - This is just not happening right now. I have too many things in my schedule so I am finding times when I might try to do this I am instead squeezing in some extra hermitting and down time, which is good and helps my don't overbook/downtime goal soooo yeah. Might just consider this one a wash for this challenge but not for bad reasons!

Doesn't hurt to reschedule your challenge as things play out. Sounds like solo wandering has crept up under "Don't overbook." Save it for another challenge, maybe?

 

Grats on the core success, and good luck with tweaking things til they get you to a happy place. You've got this.

Sooo I think my pants are getting a little looser (but still staying up on their own THANK GOODNESS since I don't like belts!) Today I am wearing a pair of leggings under my pants and the pants do not feel tight with the added layer. Double win for added warmth! And I think they actually fit better right now with leggings under them? I guess this will be less yay when it starts getting hot out but it is super windy and chilly here right now so no complaints!
