Scalyfreak slows down and simplifies things

So this Monday is my birthday. For my birthday Husband decided to arrange for a surprise for me... he spent a few months planning and organizing, and made a visit from my mother and my sister happen. This becomes a lot more impressive once you realize that Husband and I live 1.5 continents and an ocean away from the family I grew up with. I moved here over a decade ago and my sister has never visited before.

I'm going to be a little absent from the forums for the next 5-6 days or so. :)

But when you're picking apart why you failed, and now you're learning from that, then is that really failing? I don't think so." - Kobe Bryant, 1978-2020. Rest in peace, great warrior.

First off, a clarification: I am Scaly Freak. Husband is the Geek Freak. That makes us Mr & Mrs Freak. Obviously.

Second,

tumblr_n0nt7ewGHI1rz1wnio2_500.gif

I have updated my Walk to Mordor numbers on the spread sheet, and now I plan to go back and go through everyone's threads and make sure I didn't miss anything monumental while I was away.

Also, back to challenge goals:

1.Walk to Mordor

Yes! Still tracking and updating the spread sheet in the PvP thread.

2. Continue to see the iron therapist three times a week

This one has become problematic. My severe cold left behind a residual cough that strongly objects to the air inside the gym. It also objects strongly to any form of physical exertion. Combine the two, and going to the gym leads to me coughing until the gag reflex activates.... every five minutes, or so, for several hours. I have been working with Husband to figure out alternative lifting workouts with his adjustable dumbbells, so I can at least get some lifting done while I wait for the cough to go away. (And have made plans to see a doctor if that doesn't happen.)

3. Sleeping Beauty, the sequel

I have managed to track this almost every evening and morning, and thanks to that tracking I am becoming much better at adhering to my set bed time. I can tell the difference the day following a full night of restful sleep, and it's happening more and more often, which of course makes me happy.

4. Keep Unfucking Dragon Mountain

The kitchen, laundry room, and main living areas are all much nicer to be in now. Last weekend, I started the process of unfucking my dragoncave. :)

Challenge updates!

1.Walk to Mordor

While I'm still tracking, my daily walks with Hapy Sidekick have stopped happening. Long story that I'll go into more detail about later. At some point.

2. Continue to see the iron therapist three times a week

FINALLY going back to the gym tonight! I am really looking forward to this, and I have already decided that I'm restarting Strong Lifts for my next challenge.

3. Sleeping Beauty, the sequel

According to Fitbit I am averaging 5.5 hours or more per night for  last week and this week. While this is improvement, I am still only not meeting my goal of five hours per night, every night. I need to improve the consistency of sleeping, but I have increased the total amount of time I spend sleeping every week, so I am making progress.

4. Keep Unfucking Dragon Mountain

While in the process of decluttering my dragoncave, I found a book I borrowed from a friend. Two years ago. I am practicing abject apologies for when I return it later today...

#1 sounds ominous and sad. I’m sorry if so.

However, #2, 3, and 4 are all moving along nicely! I’m so glad you are able to make it to the gym today - the longing has really come through.

Sleep is hard when life is hard. Slow improvement is better than no improvement.

AND, if you hadn’t made the decluttering progress, you might not even have remembered where the book came from by the time you stumbled upon it. So call it a win.

Nah, not at all. Sorry if I made it sound that way.

I was trying to avoid making yet another "stuff went wrong and things suck now" post just because the persistent coughing turned out to be asthma attacks that have led to pulling muscles in the worst possible locations just from coughing (like on the inside of my rib cage - wtf is even the point of that?), one of my teeth having a cavity that needs fixing, and a bunch of other minor things that make me hurt all over and make life suck.

Writing posts that go into too much detail about any of the above makes me feel like I'm whining about things that aren't even real problems, and that's not good for me. More importantly, the act of writing the posts makes me fixate on the minor things that make me hurt all over and make life suck, and that is bad. Repeated fixating on the minor things that make life suck turns me into a combination of whiny, bitchy, and long-term angry, and I am trying very hard to not turn back into that person again (because she's horrible and no one likes her).

These things are either responding to treatment (the asthma), or they will heal on their own (torn muscles and injured knee), or they can easily be fixed by a professional (tooth cavity). None of it is dangerous or a long-term hindrance, they're just annoying right now.

So now I am going to go lay down and try and get comfortable so I can focus on the good things in my life, and tell myself that they are more important than the minor bad things. Over and over, until I no longer need to be reminded of that.  :)

That's a great idea! Is this where I'm supposed to warn you that I'm a teensy bit competitive...? :P

Its only a competition if you're winning...when the other person is winning I'm all just "like I'm just here for me...oh what, I'm in the lead...YEA KICKING YOUR ASCOT!!!!!"

After catching up on thread scaly, sorry to hear about the whole breathing difficulties, I guess that is kind of important...sheesh.

Looking forward to having more stronglifts people around to discuss our friend Bahamut, and commiserate when he kicks our ass or celebrate when we kick his!

Getting life in order is a challenge worth doing.

Happiness is the journey, not the destination (took me forever to learn that)

Hahaha...what is the competition?  Who can stick with their schedule the longest?

Considering our track record and our talent for injuring ourselves, that may not be a realistic challenge goal... so we should definitely go for it!

Bahamut is the enemy. Even more now when I can't life my arms above my head without having my ribs scream at me.

Breathing's overrated. I tell myself that after every HIIT session.

Note to self: Avoid HIIT sessions since they cause asthma. :P

breathing's entirely underrated in my opinion, all these people walking around breathing, not knowing how good they have it, meanwhile there are perfectly good potential breathers 6 feet under
