Rolling forward more on 2018 goals

 

Things I mastered the past 7 weeks:

Squats at full depth again (3x10x85#)

Serious progress on back tucks and round offs

Crushing it at work

Pushups almost every day (missed a few days while on vacation)

 

Things I still want to be better at

READ MORE COMICS! Especially more from non-big 2 creators and those with strong female/minority/LGBT+ characters/creators

More consistent workout routine

More work/life balance

 

First challenge of the year I was pretty sporadic due to a lot of travel. I managed to get some workouts in, but they were a lot of random ones (yoga, aerial, hiking, gymnastics, racquetball, etc) and didn't make much progress on my lifting program. I want to put the focus back on the lifting and let the other workouts fall where they may. The nutrition bit also didn't really work out the way I had envisioned it to, but I only seem to do well with "all or nothing" goals when it comes to nutrition. I don't know what to do there quite yet, so... placeholder.

I love Saga, which is ongoing and the art and surrealism makes me real happy. I've also been reading Bitch Planet and Monstress lately. 

 

Older classic runs you may want to check out:

Nimona (!!! 100% fully heartily recommend to any and all humans)

Y: The Last Man (one of my favorite pieces of media of all time)

Sandman (OBVIOUSLY) + Lucifer, a very different spin-off comic

The Invisibles (you might kind of feel like you are on drugs, but in a good way)

Preacher (kind of edgelord-y, but the story is still good)

Hellboy (any and every trade paperback is great, honestly)

Fables

Transmetropolitan (conspiracy and corruption in journalism and politics, how very topical :P )

1) Fitness

I did W6D1 on FRIDAY and the crippling DOMS only subsided yesterday, and now they are just regular DOMS. I probably could have used a walker the past few days TBH.

Chest and back yesterday, but fell short on time and still need to do pullups (tonight).

 

2) Read

Went out for work happy hour yesterday and didn't read because I was le tired by the time I then got home, cooked dinner, ate dinner etc. 

 

3) Movement/Mobility

Monday post gymnastics. Today requires more stretching and rolling of hips, in addition to chest.

I'm not picky, but I'm also simple. I'm definitely going to be reading hellboy, and I was really enjoying the comics you posted in your last challenge (outsiders?), so thats a good place to start. Anything multiverse will immediately be ignored, though. It's hands down my least favorite trope in comics and the reason I stopped reading them.

I'm not a comic person per say.... graphic novels, but I get confused about what happens after you finish reading them? NOT THE POINT! I love how people starting using this ^^^ one as a coloring book <3 Jonny Sun is good people. It's a beautiful story.

I really need to get back into reading more comics! I never finished all of Sandman and I reallllllyyyy should.  I feel like I need to be so much more focused to read comics than I do for books (I like to really take in the art) so I tend to not like reading them during my regularly scheduled before-bed reading time. Hmmm...

W6D3 this morning. Still need to do pullups from D2. My grip strength has gotten so bad since not deadlifting heavy + doing deadlift variations.

Read a new comic "sleepless" which I picked up issue 1 a while ago. I liked it a lot. 2 and 3 are out already, but I'm going to see if my shop can hold them for me.

I've been wanting to read it so bad! My sister called me after she read it and said she cried a lot and it was amazing. I love that they are coloring it too. I might buy it vs. getting from library just for that reason.

My little 80's nostalgia brain is breaking down over new She-Ra.

THERE IS A NEW SHE-RA COMING! The broadcast stations where I grew up didn't show He-Man, but they showed She-Ra (I've since caught up on He-Man) and She-Ra was the bomb. I loved the animation, the color scheme, the characters, everything. Seeing some old episodes on Netflix with Sra. Tanque brought back a lot of good memories.

Th 2/22 / Fr 2/23 < I'm getting my days all screwed up.

 

1) Fitness

W6D4 this morning. Shoulders and arms. It's a favorite because it's so short. I can usually finish in about 35 minutes. Therefore I tagged on the makeup pullups. Next week I'll try to do pullups both days, just because.

 

2) Read

 Comic a day. Total 3

I did not read a comic, but I finished the book I was reading. (still counts)

 

3) Movement/Mobility

Did some hip stretching which felt great after the mornings hamstring workout. My splits are so much better with left leg in front. It's hilarious how big the difference is.

I do too!!!! They're great for weekends if you have a few hours because you can appreciate it more. :)

Fr 2/23 - Su 2/25

 

Mr. J slipped on ice and broke his hand. So he's been on administrative duty working M-F days. It's been nice to see him at home during the evenings. We went out for date night Friday, which was the first time in a while.

 

This weekend I ADULTED SO HARD. Deep cleaned kitchen and both bathrooms, vacuumed, laundry, grocery shopped, baked banana bread, cooked all my meals, meal prepped breakfast for the week, sorority meeting, returned library books, dropped stuff off at the recycling center, was DD for Mr. J and the neighbors Saturday, AND did my taxes.

Saturday was a rest day. Sunday was W7D1 where I managed ALL 6 SETS OF 10 SQUATS WITHOUT A BOX!!!!

Week 8 starts phase 2, which moves from 6 sets of 8-10, to 3 sets of 12-15. I'll probably try to keep the same weight throughout the end of the program, just because it works back up to 6 sets again (ded). I was thinking of jumping into crossfit once I finished this program, but the farther I get in, the more I want to run a powerlifting/peaking cycle too. 

Only did 1 handstand session this week. 

 

2) Read

 Comic a day. Total 6

Add another 3 days to the total here. Yesterday I also boarded, bagged, and boxed a bunch of comics (alliteration FTW!). Which was a nice bit off my mind and helped clean up the place instead of having tons of piles just sitting around.

 

3) Movement/Mobility

Actually stretched and rolled 4 times, but who's counting ;) (it was necessary)
